  • Well who do you think played in the first place in order to cut the piano roll? Of course, a pianist. George Gershwin made many piano rolls like this one during the 1920's.

  • It is a shame that the pianist is not credited!! Gorgeous version.

  • @superdot36

It's not a pianist playing, it's a piano roll, meaning this was mechanically (read about piano rolls in Wikipedia if you wish)

  • @superdot36

It's not played by a pianist. This is a piano roll meaning this was mechanically made, you can read more about piano rolls just search about it if you wish. It's very interesting.

  • 0 dislikes, some faith in humanity has been restored!

  • The sheet music is on IMSLP; search for "Stoptime Rag" or "Scott Joplin".

  • splendid !!!!

  • I actually hear this kind of music but this is very good!

  • Great stuff! ;- ) ... thanks a lot!

  • This is freaking awesome.

  • This is pretty cool!

  • I like this version...but there's no metronome ticking!

  • @SerenaBlackCat

Yeah, the sheet music states that a foot should be stomped in time, if I recall correctly. Kind of hard for a piano roll to replicate that though.

Anyway, one of the best pieces of music by Joplin, or anyone for that matter.

  • @Aspants

A metronome can replicate the stomping, as has been done on the other piano roll upload of this piece by RagtimeDorianHenry.

  • This song reminds me of a little plantation song we used to sing back in my day, "Picking cotton picking cot- ouch thorn. Picking cotton, picking cotton, pickin- ouch thorn."

  • it's a perfect play-along to practice the clapping/knocking parts! :-D

    great composition!

  • I can play The Easy Winner .The Enthertrainer,Sugar Cane Rag and now i learn plau palm leaf rag , next I will learn this rag it's very nice

  • to lagier8:

  • The best pianist from St. Louis!

  • @sigmo75 The best pianist. Period.

  • I need to get sheet music for this.

  • I'm sorry I ain't got it

  • I wasn't asking for it. I got a book of all of scott joplin's rags. I had already been working on the maple leaf rag for a few months.

  • Really? I've learnt a simplified version, but do have the original music, it's just a matter of priority as i'm also learning Elite Syncopations lol

  • @Ragtime44Films Go to imslp.org. Look up "Joplin" and press the "Composer" button. Click the first link. This will show a lot of Joplin's ragtimes. The IMSLP do TONS of public-domain music, and all of Joplin's music is PD.

  • @AnAmericanComposer

  • @AnAmericanComposer thanks for the info!
