i hear that dd cannot drop low and sound like shit when any real bass is put though them, is this true? do they distort at very high volumes or excursion? looking for as many opinions as i can get, so please answer if you read this.

DD does not distort at high volumes, they make some extremely loud woofers. As far as their ability to hit the low notes, it's all in how the box is tuned. Most DD subs are used for straight up SPL purposes and are tuned higher for higher dB's and don't sound good on music. However, if mounted in a properly sized and tuned box, they can play just fine on music and stuff.
