Hooper was essential in the sense that he was the one who FORMED the band. Pipes didn't join until later on.

But I agree that Hoopers voice got on my nerves a lot. Hagberg is much better IMO.

Live he does Hoopers parts and you can actually understand what he is saying! And it still sounds heavy as shit!

To add to the disussion about the singers, IMHO Hooper did add something to the band, and it's a pity he had to quit.

I also seem to like Advance&Vanquish more than this album.

I didn't bother Hooper being in a band. No matter was or wasn't Hooper in the band, this band is still awesome. Only this style feels more like old-school metal, when before they sounded like some kind of crazy-ass metal. I love both styles and 3IoB will always rule.

Man, I've known them from the Advance and Vanquish days, when they first got recognition. I got to know Shane and Jamie. Jamie is out of the band now, but I still talk to Shane. I just just saw them earlier tonight (tomorrow technically), and Shane is a cool guy. I met the new drummer for the first time, and he is awesome. I asked him how he learned to play drums, and he learned by hanging out with GENE HOGLAN. The greatest drummer ever rubbed off on this drummer. New album is great.
