I took this trip while I lived in Durango (late 80's) while my Mom and Dad were visiting from PA. My kids who were 5 and 6 at the time were with us and the Gov. of Colo at the time..Romer??? was on the train too. We lived in Hermosa Springs just north of Durango very close to the Animas River. My husband worked in Silverton at Sunnyside Gold Mine. Also stopped in at the Saloon many times. Great memories.

I went on this trip as a teen in the late 80's. I remember the thrill and terror of that 400-foot drop. I am afraid of heights but would do it again with my kids.
That was a great vacation even though I didn't appreciate it as much then as I should have.
We'll be riding the D&S in July. Looking forward to it!
