  • So everyone knows, it samples "How It Ends" by Devotchka.

Both are gorgeous works of art.

Props to you prof, this gives me hope in Hip-Hop.

  • Prof was handing this album out at the ryhmesayers concert, in Toronto. Had to buy a copy, so I could pass the free one on. But since when is it "snitching" to ask what sample is used? I was also curious lol.

  • @pckid17 since artists are getting sued because people are id'ing samples on youtube and twitter. i was just joking with with @woof183. and since this was a free album, there aren't any worries. but artists like the cunninlynguists and atmosphere and many other great independent hip hop artists are getting sued by people so it does kind of suck.

  • @gooseohio lol do you really think people search for copyright infringement, by reading youtube comments, when websites like Whosampled provide huge searchable databases? I see your point, but seems like these secrets never stay hidden anymore... that's why you need to clear your samples. it's not new. in 1999, Fatboy slim's song "right here, right now" was originally a song made to be part of a dj mix, but it became popular, and was made a single... he lost all rights to the james gang.

  • @pckid17 yeah those websites are probably hurting artists the most. but Kno (of the Cunninlynguists) said that he's gotten a bunch of C&D orders because of youtube comments and message board comments.

And you're right it's pretty much a losing battle, because people are going to do what they want. Indie artists cant afford to clear samples, even majors dont want to pay the $ for sampling. But spreading awareness about this hurting indie artists can only help.

  • @gooseohio a losing battle? People are gonna buy your music if they like it and they like you, simple as that.. Artists don't make money making albums, they make money touring

  • reminds of me growing up so much..... but switch dad with mom

  • you got it, sick sample tho

  • my bad.. I meant yes... you got it..

  • Wrong and wrong... please no snitching on our free album tho.

    Thanks.
