Holy smokes. I have no words. One of my favorite songs by my favorite female vocalist. Few can do the song or Karen justice - you have. You have my admiration. Looking forward to watching some others.
Oh, my : amazing and astonishing and ENTERTAINING.....wow, I am a tad gob-smacked at your phrasing and control...very much your own vocalist, notwithstanding your KC and JG attributions. I've spent lotsa late nights in small clubs, NYC and Detroit and Seattle and I can picture you in a slinky, hot
ensemble, swaying in front of a 3-piece band...Andrea Marcovicci - Wesla Whitfield - Maureen McGovern - you......you're a babe ( if I may be so bold and so accurate ) and a gifted singer.
You are completely brilliant and very gifted, I love and miss Karen with all my heart, you sing with feelings I can see this, you do not just sing the song you feel it and this to me is what is missing in the music biz today, thank you from the bottom of my heart for this amazing video, keep doing what you are doing you are star quality. God Bless You.
I love your version and I have subscribed to your channel. I am a huge fan of Karen. She died too young. Her songs helped me cope through a childhood that was too unbearable and difficult to describe here and now. I am blessed now and doing well. But Karen was there when I needed her. God bless you and I am definitely going to check out more of your songs. Very wonderful singing. Thank you for sharing. :)
God has given you a wonder voice and good job for no training. Try to select a key that will allow you to nail the lower notes without out sounding breathy. Of course Karen did all that so easy, but didn't visit the attic notes that often. Good job.
I just ran across this video and want to thankl you for sharing your wonderful rendition of an excellent song. I haven't heard that song in years and it brought back a lot of memories. Thank you for sharing.
You hit the low notes! Karen had such a range. I do love her low register. Today is the annivesary of her death. She's deprived of her life, we're not only deprived of her life but her voice. I think Richard is an underrated singer. He sang the bass and tenor parts on their recordings, Top Of The World, Merry Christmas, Darling, for exampl She seemed like such a nice lady.. Nice job on the song.
It's true, Karen Carpenter had an amazing one of a kind voice with a lovely sense of expression she gave to it. However, you have a character in your voice as well that is distinctly your own. I liked your version of Solitaire, however I also hope you will connect with compositions of your own or written for you to share...originals resonating from your own heart. The best to you.
I was listening to my Carpenter tribute album-the sheryl crow version and went on here to see it there was a video. Came across your version...BEAUTIFUL! thank you
Your vocal diction is superb, and your singing; very professional. My family is filled with singers on both sides, some even semi-professionals, but none of them can sing as well as you. I can't wait to hear more. Best regards, Anna
You did this incredibly well. For not having vocal lessons you have great breath control and a great range. One thing I am shocked at...you have no lesson, but you pronouce words 'vocally correct' for the most part, meaning that you sing the vowel sounds with the 'eh, ee, ah, oh, oo' sounds.
Beautiful job, Roswell, you even captured some of that conviction and sincerity that Karen had. It takes some guts to attempt a cover of KC, but you did a very lovely job. . . . Just lose the Harvard t-shirt, can't get much further from the Downey spirit than that. Go with Long Beach State.
I agree with you on your taste in music the two best female singers ever are Judy Garland, and Karen Carpenter, if you really think about it they are kind of similiar in many ways, They both sang from there hearts, and souls, I am also singer, ( BY the way I am a guy) my voice is a tenor, and I can sing Karen's songs very well the low notes are PERFECT FOR ME, I would like to sing with you maybe we could sing together, Please get back to me! :)
wow, your rendering of this song is perfect - I must say. I am Indian, I listened to Carpenters album first in the mid eightes and they have been my fav group ever since. Great going Shanon, I look forward to istening more of your recordings.
Being somewhat older than you (but not QUITE old enough to have heard the Carpenters when they were popular ;-D) I had heard this song before. You do it justice and sing it quite well. The vowels could have been a little more open but it didn't take away from your rendition. Your voice can be powerful but I really like when you sing the softer covers. =) Nice job!
You know what I always say about your singing... phenomenal! I wish I could sing like you. This song is a perfect tone to show the color of your voice- which is pure!
Tremendous singing voice, I too am a Carpenters' fan, you did Karen great justice in singing this song, for being a non-professional, it sure didn't sound like it. For a person who had no voice lessons there is to me hardly room for improvement. Keep singing those Carpenters songs and any other song you wish to sing. I think you can't go wrong. Keep up the good work, and most of all have fun!
Oh my gosh. I have no idea if you remember me, but I've been a fan of yours since, like, the waaay beginning... and you've improved SO MUCH! This song is beautiful, and you just seem to have so much more control over your voice to be able to sing it so well. You're SO fantastic! Awesome job :]
Oh, Shannon. I don't even know what to say. Your phrasing, your pronounciation, your pitch, all perfect. You have come so incredibly far. And I loved to hear the deeper tones in your voice - they are very rich and beautiful.
I love this! It's really unlike any song you've done before; it's quieter and gentler, yet more emotional.
Argh! You said in the description you weren't satisfied with this. ARE YOU EVER SATISFIED WITH ANYTHING YOU SING SHANNON?! You don't need to be soooooo modest--I know that deep down you know you're amazing! Hehe. I love you! :)
If Karen Carpenter could hear this, she would be very pleased and proud of you. You were sensational, and did this song great justice. I take it as a promise that you will do more of her songs in the future.
awesum job with this song! i LOVE the carpenters too! :D i think your voice sounds really great with non-broadway songs. you should seriously have a record deal, haha! :D

Shannon, Shannon this was GREAT!!! I love your lower register and your breath control was fantastic!! And you were dead on in pitch and I loved the variety in volume. Can't wait for more Carpenters songs. I loved them. I doubt you were even born when Karen died. They were great. GOOD JOB!!

good, verry good...but...if you are a Carpenter (Karen) fan... why did you scheck your lyrics on a paper to your left.
By the way ...
Karen (you are doing ok but) had much more volume in her voice.
You keep it al slow and easy. Theres no more emotion in the song.
Stand behind the lyrics and if neccesary screem it out......like Karen did.
From the top of your longs. Thants how she sung....
but...you are doing ok.
