  • Hi there to all how are you?

I would like to ask you why my renders become sepia when I use Vray

  • question...i have a scene going that i had normal lights and normal render...i switched everything over to vray materials using bridge...the added tags to my lights....took away the enviroment brightness so it using just the lights in the scene...when i render only the glow on my objects lights up...not the actual lights...the rest of my scene is black. So its all black..save for a few glows...any suggestions? Also can i render this out to psd with full layers in one file...ty

  • question can you do a tutorial on how you create the bed especially the sheet hanging over the edge

  • Thanks for the tips

  • I have a question...with vray...does it only use normal lights....or can you use the GI technique for lights where you have a plane that has luminosity as a light?

I have a scene with an office...where i have a plane with luminosity as a light...then directly underneath it is another plane acting as like a plastic shell like thing with a little texture kind of thing that you see in an office. But i cant seem to get the lights to work...i tried marking them as lights...and not..so idk...

  • @Shadownian In the luminosity layer, enable the "direct illumination" option, and then adjust the intensity to your liking.

  • @ShepperdOneill

ty for the response...tried that...and it took alot more time to render...but it does seem to be higher detail...but as far as the actual light amount...no difference...right now i have my planes luminosity set at 10000 brightness.....lol

  • OOOhh i see....it explain everything now. Thanx a lot Onneill

  • Hai Onneill....i was trying to do compositing. Usually i use mental ray & now i experiment with Vray. When i used background & the material from VrayAdvanceMaterial, the texture doesn't appear. Why? I didn't sleep last night to solve this. But in the end i remember when u help back then .Can U help me pleaseee :) ?

  • @bagasFadhiyoko The C4D background object is not supported by Vray. You will have to use Vray's background enviroment feature in the render settings.

  • I DON'T NEED VRAY FOR MY RENDERING, JUST THE Global Illumination and Ambient Occlusion ARE ENOUGH.

  • Most excellent tutorials. So far I am learning thanks to you. Thank you. You are a good teacher.

  • hi ShepperdOneill. thaks for the cool and informative tutorials. btw if you wanna have white native c4d materials, you shoud change the material model to oren-nayar under the illumination section and increase diffuse level and falloff levels a bit. that should solve the issue.

  • I've think I found it, perhaps my computer can't hold the presure. Because right now I was finished doing a preview render and add a new advanced material and it crashed again.

  • @TheRutgerbenoot What does the error message say?

  • @ShepperdOneill It's the normal crash report message of Cinema 4D and when I restart the program it ask if I want to send the report Maxon. That's why I think it's my computer that can't hold the presure. When I use Vray I just have to do the things a little slow so it have the time for loading.

When I do things with Vray materials, my processor goes to 100 % (in taskmanager) and then it goes down to 7-15%.

  • @TheRutgerbenoot Does the crash say anything about vray causing the crash? Sometimes if a plugin causes the crash, it will pop up a window before it closes and it will give the name of the plugin.

What kind of computer do you have?

  • @ShepperdOneill it's a laptop and it doesn't say anything about Vray, but my performance go very high when I make a new material and edit that material.

I was planned to buy this summer a new pc, a desktop because I like 3D modeling. And Cinema 4D works fine on my laptop (long render time, but I didn't expect anything else), but something has destroyed that plan :(

I can use Vray now, I just have to wait until my CPU use is back on a lower level.

  • I can't turn the specalur layer on or cinema 4D crashes.

  • @TheRutgerbenoot Ive never had that problem before. Not sure what to tell you. Try restarting, or perhaps reinstalling the plugin.

  • @ShepperdOneill I've reinstalled the plugin and now it works fine, I hope it stays like this (I hope I didn't make much spelling mistakes, I'm actually from Belgium)

  • yu forgot to put the textures :O

  • @iLappaLappa put the textures?? where? Im not sure I understand what you're saying.

  • @ShepperdOneill oh no really sorry, i did not see them they were placed behing my 'Fences'. I ment that you forgot to put the textures up for a download. anyways VRay is great, i bought it this morning it looks really reealistic. Is it possible to request tutorials? Cause you are really good at modeling, and i havent really starded modeling yet even though i have had Cinema 4d for almost 2 years now. The only way i use is Loft Nurbs wich is not really that good and i't won't give a good outcome.

  • OMG It takes you 20 sec. to render the floor but my pc sucks so it takes 10 minutes!

  • @jannes351 What kind of machine do you have?

  • @ShepperdOneill an Acer Aspire 5740 laptop (it takes 7 minutes to boot up!)

  • @jannes351 Yikes! Time for a new machine!

  • @ShepperdOneill I know but i don't have the money ( i'm 13)

  • @ShepperdOneill what machine do you have? thanks for the tuts btw learning a lot :)

  • @BesKeyBoska I have a BOXX workstation.. Two Quad core CPU's (8-cores at 4Ghz), 4 GB RAM, and a very old Quadro FX 1700.

  • @ShepperdOneill oh nice. Is the cpu overclocked or is that the default speed? I am thinking of overclocking my cpu to 4Ghz but I need liquid cooling ;(

  • @BesKeyBoska Boxx overclocked it. The default speed was 3.2Ghz. Its also liquid cooled.

  • Which version of Vrayforc4d are you using? .5.5 and R12 seems to render fine but in the viewport the objects are black when using really advanced vray mats. Funny thing is when using regular vray mats (say just a diffusion) the viewport shows them with the proper selections (selection tag) but, as you said, will not render them that way.

    Damn Maxon, lol.

  • @GhostOfACPast Im using .5.5 Yeah, there is some limitations right now, and it deals with the MAXON SDK. The more material you add to an object, (especially with alpha channels), you cannot rely on the viewport for accurate representation. You have to make preview renders frequently to make sure your materials look correct.

I had to do this when I made the Wii controller.

  • @ShepperdOneill Ugh :( Almost makes having vray a pita and I wonder if MAXON is doing this on purpose or are they just that inept and/or lazy?

  • @GhostOfACPast I dont know... but the only way to get some of issues solved would be through MAXON making the fixes in future updates/releases.

  • Awesome tut, but I just have no idea what bump does. I didn't really see a difference after applying it, but maybe I'm not looking for the right thing.

  • @Beachyboy9966 Perhaps a higher (or lower) value for the bump. Instead of -.5, try something like -2 or more and try to render again. You'll see what bump does. Its used fake the appearance of bumps, grooves, and ridges on objects.

  • @Beachyboy9966 A bump makes it look like really inside/outside structured. Think of a moon and it's craters.
