  • In This Clip, From 0:00 To 1:53, It Was CBS Sports' College Football On CBS: Alabama Vs. Tennessee Video Open From Late Saturday Afternoon, October 26, 1996.

  • i love the 90s

  • Hard to believe Peyton Manning was in college in the mid 90s! Also hard to believe Jim Nantz covered a Manning game in college, and then does it again all the time in the NFL.

  • This music was originally commisoned by CBS as the theme music for Super Bowl XXV.

I'm surprised CBS didn't keep this music restricted to the NFL's Big Game; this theme music literally screams "Super Bowl!".

  • Damn good intro

  • great intro

  • i was 3 yrs old

  • wow 15 years ago already?

  • Is it me or has Jim Nantz really sounded different when he has done college sports?

  • those were the days tennessee won

  • snoopy, as a husker fan, i feel your pain...

  • go vols!

  • Remember when Fulmer would always have his daughter on the field with him after the game? I wonder how old she is now....

  • Man these video hurt to watch. Not because of the wins and loss. What Tennessee use to be and what they are now just hurts plain and simple it just HURTS.

  • Haha, I love those classic team logos.

  • whenever i think of tennessee i think of andrew jackson. his volunteer infantry is how they got their team name.

  • there is no better feeling than sec football on saturdays in the fall!!!

  • Hmmm, who's this Peyton Manning they speak of?

  • It would be great to have Jim Nantz, Verne, Brett Musburger, and Pat Hayden calling a college football game together on CBS

  • @KaraLarson26 don't forget bout Craig Bolerjack

  • Gotta luv the orange mash potatoes

  • oh man it sounds like a saturday after noon i looooooove me some sec LSU!!!!

  • Peyton Manning and Tennessee beat everyone that year except...Florida. That was the only knock on him coming out of college obviously that was dispelled rather quickly until this year when Peyton lost his Super Bowl to the Saints.

  • @vidEvWill Memphis also beat them that year in a 21-17 upset win later in the season.

  • I miss Jim Nantz broadcasting these games, but Verne is a more than capable replacement.

  • @JUNIORWHOPPER What about Sean McDonough? He was on before Verne Lundquist.

  • go alabama

  • jim nance need to go back doin cf,,he was good

  • @mlang28 he basically own cbs sports lol

  • Did Bama and Tennessee end up having good seasons that year?

  • Tennessee beat Alabama 20-13 and wound up with a 10-2 record, beating Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl. Bama also finished with a 10-2 record (their other loss was at Mississippi State) and beat Michigan in the Outback Bowl.

  • what other loss did tennessee have?

  • @UTEV2012 Florida

  • Gotta love Steve Spurrier's rib on Tennessee..."Can't spell Citrus without a U and a T".

  • Alabama finished 10-3 that year with with losses to UT, Mississippi State (my uncle says he still has the taste of vomit in his mouth), and Florida in the SEC Championship game. Tennessee (I think) lost to Memphis in an upset..... This game was huge for Alabama. In 1995 UT traveled down to Legion Field and humilated us 41-14. It was one of the worse home losses in Bama history.

  • Tennessee went on to have a shot at the National Championship before getting upset by Memphis, but they beat Northwestern in the Citrus Bowl.

  • I want orange mashes potatoes and orange marmalade pie and cake with orange icing! As for orange soda, well, I already have that!! : )

  • lol

  • what the hell....let us embed this

  • dont hate SEC, they cant help if they are the BEST!!!

  • You know what, dmxwl2002, Everyone Is starting to get sick of listenin to dickheads like yourelf and all your sec bullshit....You Asses complain that USC gets in a title game with one loss....Well if your Alexander the Great SEC teams have two losses they get in...shut the fuck up....If Kentucky or Vanderbilt went undefeated you'd assume they're better than USC

  • because the sec is a harder conference than the shit ten

  • they probably would be better than usc if they went undefeated in the sec.

  • Well, I don't like either one of these teams, but CBS intros are so great. It just feels like Fall listening to it.

  • Those days are over UT beating a probation riddle team in Bama.

  • This is so freakin awesome.

There's nothing more American than college football on an autumn Saturday, especially a rivalry of this level

  • college football is 100 times better than pro...every game means so much, which is why we should never have a playoff for the college football championship, because a team like USC could afford to lose a game like a stanford or Oregon State and still play in the playoffs. Stop Crying pete carroll, if you cant go undefeated in the weak pac-10, get out..and utah? cmon now, you couldnt beat a team like alababa 7 times in a season...aka an annual SEC schedule

  • Only thing I wish they do better is let the fans hear the fight songs after every score, instead of the program songs

  • its to bad jim nance dont do college football i like him on cf better than nfl..

  • that funny manning is the quaterback...because 10 years from then he will win the superbowl! lol hahahaha

  • Who won this game?

  • Please refer to the previous comment for the answer to that question. :)

  • UT 20-13

  • I believe that Lane Kiffin will bring a new prospective to the Tennessee football program. With recruiting be the most crucial element in a winning program,Tennessee must be competive with the Florida and Alabama,in getting the athletes to produce a winning program..

  • Can't wait for Lane Kiffin to get stomped in the swamp this fall.

Nobody screws with Urban Meyer and gets away with it.

  • 5,4,3,2,1...give him six!! touchdown big orange!!

  • Damn I miss John Ward

  • If we beat Western Kentucky, that is. =P If we lose to Western Kentucky there will be some ticked off people... lol I doubt we will. We can't be worse that last year!

  • if we lose to them....well that wont wont happen. Im callin 7-5

  • God I love college football. How the hell am I gonna wait until September.

  • Just remember. Everyday is one day closer.

  • Any by the way, if CBS ever changes what I consider to be the best theme music in sports history, I will be PISSED. Lol.

  • I miss that intro it takes me back

  • Oh wow can you imagine the energy that is going to be in Knoxville when Lane and company run through the T for the first time.

  • i'm glad they've kept this theme for so long

  • assssaa

  • Fuck the SEC, Fuck Tennessee, Fuck Florida, Fuck Alabama, .......

I do like the CBS football intro song though:)

Only SEC football teams I like are Arky, Vandy , Kentucky, Ole Miss and S Carolina.

Other than Go Longhorns, Go Big XII.:)

  • fuck texas, Florida is such a better football state, college and high school

  • I say we forget the SEC and CBS goes back to regular college football.

  • Alabama and Tennessee, tell us how our a-- tastes in 2008.

    Sincerely,

    Utah and Wyoming

  • take that perennial powers!!!!!

  • This was during that strange period when CBS did not have the NFL (which explains Jim Nantz working college ball) and used that funky orange and yellow based graphics package. I can't remember for football, but I think this was about the time they figured out that having the score on the screen all the time for NCAA hoops was the way to go. I'm not totally sure, but this also could have been the time that CBS had the Alliance bowl package that was a predecessor to the BCS (without the Rose Bowl)

  • u rule

  • i agree they would too

  • BCS games would be more fun, if CBS did them.

  • @pluto545 Well, you can't spell BCS without CBS.

  • does anyone know who won? i can't remember. :[

  • Tennessee 20-13!

  • sweet deal! :] GO VOLS! <3

  • the greatness of this game. Especially his "though the years with a young quaterback" actually Joe Namath's recent (and past) behavior would be better suited for Tennessee's Phillip Fullmer team since he can't seem to control his players. Seriously though I have nothing but respect for Joe Namath. I'd throw Fullmer under the bus, before Namath...he got his life together and finished his college degree which is more than most pro athletes.

  • It's amazing that back then CBS felt it had to sell the history to get a national audience to care. Nowadays everyone knows the SEC is the most competitive conference in the land, so the games practically sell themselves.

And I must say one of CBS's best decisions ever was keeping this classic theme when they resumed coverage of the sport in '96. After listening to some composer demos, I'd say they realized it was impossible for man to make better college football music.

  • c'mon now you honestly think the SEC was a crap conference in the mid '90s when this aired? Hell no, the CBS intro adds so much to the mystique the is the Southeastern Conference. I mean in the big ten it is only Michigan and OSU. Michigan will be back people enjoy kicking them but it won't last long then it will be the Big Two again. The SEC isn't two teams that's what exciting. If CBS did U-M/OSU games it would be awesome. I like Nantz's "through the years" to "last year" it gives the feel of

  • Current intro sucks pigskins compared to this! This is el ultimo, the best. Who came up with the graphics for this?

  • The SEC has deals with CBS, and what does the ACC get? Freaking Raycom Sports! The MWC doesn't get national coverage. You have to get a sports tier just to get the mtn.

  • If by MWC, you are talking about the Mountain West Conference, they had games on Versus last season, but I don't know of any other network that had them.

  • Wow this gets me fired up for tomorrow night. Go big orange!

  • Man I enjoyed when Jim Nantz and Terry Donohue covered those games with Michelle Tafoya being the sideline reporter.

  • When I was young, Saturdays were:

    Jefferson Pilot game

    CBS game

    ESPN game

  • Saturdays are like that now, except Jefferson Pilot is Raycom.

Are you from the South too?

  • DAM, u gotta love wakein up on a crisp fall mornin, watchin college game day on ESPN, then switchin over to CBS to watch SEC football all day long... i love the theme song, gets me pumped.

  • Nothing says Saturday's in the fall like,

"THE HOME DEPOT SEC ON CBS! A SATURDAY TRADITION!!!"

  • This was a great game. I wish coaches would wear suits again! I miss old school football!!!!

  • GO SEC!!!

  • you're such a loser dude. your life is pointless

  • Where did they dig up that worthless clip of Peyton throwing a TD against FL?

He went 0-4 against the Gators.

And in '96, we were up 35-0 in the 2nd qtr on 2 Peyton INTs.

  • and UF got their ass kicked by F$U

  • and then, they kicked FSU's ass lol

  • they still beat your precious gators

  • best college football music EVER!!!!

  • The Home Depot SEC on CBS.

  • not after this year, my friend. not anymore

  • SEC= best conference for football.

  • Audio and video match pretty well to me.

  • Remember, if it doesn't say "CBS StereoSound", somebody else makes it. (salutes)

  • Nice, I loaded the '06 version.

  • Fat Phil weighs twice as much as he did in 1996. Fat rat bastard.

  • This theme is and always shall be...epic.

  • Like the intro, the lower-thirds not so much.

I wonder if the intro would have been used for the NFL had CBS still had it at the time.

  • They would've kept the classic NFL Today theme song for pregame, halftime and postgame shows along with the "Sha-na-na" theme for the actual game.

  • I missed this intro to cbs football because of that stupid big 12 package. This is what I like right here.

  • I LOVE THIS INTRO. Every saturday everytime I hear that intro, I run (full speed) from my bedroom and plop down on the sofa in the den and watch SEC football on CBS. Doesn't get any better than that.

  • bama was up 13-0 at halftime but Tennessee came back to win 20-13.

  • I know Tennessee won this game, but what was the final score, and what were Peyton's numbers?

  • 20-13,as far as Manning number i don't know what they are,but let just say that this wasn't one of his better games.

  • These two teams have gone in totally different directions in the 2000s agree? Tennessee is a shell of their former selves. Fullmer an overweight has been of a coach from his mid 90 glory days. Alabama, meanwhile is on the rise.

  • tennessee is having a bad year because of a new off coordinator. bama was just 7-6 last year

  • Hearing the CBS college football theme give me a boner. Only 30 more days 'till kick off.

  • CBS intro just brings chills to me. Can't wait until the season starts.

  • Michelle Tafoya is underrated and according to KG, she's "lookin' good."

  • Awesome, I have always loved CBS Sports, i dont care what they cover, it is always good
