me too! im from stockton, CA, where pavements from, well at least malkimus is from stockton i know some of them are from new york or something... and fucking nobody here knows about them.. its kind of depressing but hey i guess it does make them a little more interesting... as shitty as it is to live here i have to believe that this song is about stockton.. the "i have to get the fuck out of this town" part at least haha
i saw an interview where he talks about how stockton is some way depresing, and it has a mayor influence in pavement's songs. I've been in California just as a tourist* but i think i have an idea of what he means.
BTW, i was there in '94 for the world cup so it wasn't bad at all.
Sometimes I listen to them and just say to myself..."My dear God some people have never even heard this before or even heard about it. And worse some have heard it and do not get what I get from it." Pavement is an amazing amazing band. I don't understand some people though...
of course it s a pavement song. it appears on westing (by musket and sextant). it tought this album was a joke at the time of its release but now i love it, it became very actual. the wedding present cover is great indeed
The other version on the re-release on Wowee Zowee is classic. The intro is a kind of bluesy riff followed by Malkmus saying "Ready to freak out?" and then the band going nuts. And then out of nowhere it stops and Box Elder starts up. Great stuff
anybody else ever look up to see if there was a box elder, missouri?

guys as big as stephen generally play the mainstage at KF and usually don't book the tap bar... was this an impromptu performance?

One of my favorite Pavement songs- Malkmus does a great job here. I wish I could've been there.
