  • how did you set up the lighting for that?

  • How can I install it to my 3ds max 2012 ???

  • thats pretty damn convincing for procedural!

  • hey, i use 3ds max 2012, and when i click generate, it says "unknown property: "maptype" is undefined", and i creates a few cubes, all the same.

  • this is incredible! you deserve a very high paid job my friend. thankyou

  • Does it work with 3DsMax2012?

  • Can this plug work with c4d?

  • You, sir, are THE MAN. No seriously, this is epic.

  • first of all thanks for creating a script like this and giving it for free.

But i have a problem running.

When i run it through maxscript it says syntax error :at bad expected factor

in line (and here there is a cube)

i installed helium and have 3ds max 9

  • @LanRous Make sure that you're running at least 3dsmax 9 and have Service Pack 1 installed.

  • @ivanisavich

    about 3ds max i have

    3ds max 9 version

now about that service pack 1 if you mean windows

i have windows xp proffesional sp3

  • @LanRous No you need service pack 1 for 3dsmax 9.

  • @LanRous yea, and thats why i say its gonna take a shit time to texture, and not to model. this conversation is nonsense anyway as the new version has an auto-texture feature, which makes it even more awesome.

  • can you make a game with that map?? like a modern fps zombie rpg game????????????

  • now why don't we have more open world games with maps like this?

  • does this plugin work for cinema 4d?

  • found it, but it saus "maptype undefined" when i try to generate. why? thanks

  • i can't find the link on your website, where is it plz?

  • Can these cities that are generator with that software be editable? or are they just closed buildings? (new to all of this, so I figured I'd ask) Thanks in advance!

  • Amazing work you do 5***** !!! : )

  • its gonna be a pain in the ass to texture ;). looks good tho

  • @momopirou not really, just unwrap UVW, than sketch.

  • @HowkeyLL "just" unwarp UVW. these aren't low poly buildings mate, so the "just" unwarp UVW is gonna take a shit long time (especially when you didnt model the buildings yourself)

  • @momopirou If you are using these kind of detailed buildings, than you probably reserved the time to texture them. It doesnt take long. But you have to have proper equipment.

  • @HowkeyLL i don't get what u're saying, unwarp uvw takes time, or you use plugins that does auto unwarps, but doesnt work pretty well.

  • @momopirou if im texturing these kind of buildings, than i go for high detail. Which means that i spend more than 5 times more on sketching than actuall unwrapping. But if you create them yourself, than it takes much more time to do the whole work. So im trying to say this is awesome because it helps to shorten the time of modelling stretching it to just "unwrap". Sorry for any confusion :)

  • I use 3ds max2009, when i click 'generate' the building parts are not aligned...... any idea?

  • Inception :D

  • @hakero42 or Mirrors Edge ;)

  • Its for Cinema 4D ?

  • Damn if it's really you who created this piece then you're a God! Congratulations this is absolutely amazing! Easy 2 use gives very good results, and totally eats my PC! Cheers!

  • Cmon please CINEMA 4d at least.. can;t you do that ?

  • Hi I understand that you have a Blender 2.5 version coming out soon, but in the meantime is it possible to open a city in 2.5 that was generated in 2.49?

  • @johnwcaldwell I think you've got the wrong person....this script is for 3dsmax and there's no blender version.

  • @johnwcaldwell you're thinking of that city builder plugin for blender, the one that hasn' been updated since 2009.

  • @johnwcaldwell this is 3dsmax but you can convert 3dsmaxfiles to blender

  • AmaZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing Blender 3D combination!!! Thanks

  • what 3d program is this?

  • heck yes, looks very nice, any chance this puppy comes to C4D?

  • cool

  • reminds me of mirrors edge. :D

  • Awesome! Has this been used in any movies or films? Love procedural stuff.

  • Is it UV mapped too? x_x

  • is this as good as greeble? great video

  • A stupid question...who disliks this video ?

  • @youmasora the 5 people who disliked this video are too stupid to know what the term "procedural" means.

  • That was awesome!

  • mirrors edge ;)

  • i'm using this and how many polys did it take to make all those buildings

  • Damn, wish you were a C4D user. We'd like you on the dark side...

  • @Pendergeist Welcome to the light side we have hookers.

  • @Pendergeist I'm a grey jedi, using both MAX and C4d

  • how did u script it?

  • Okay I want this and i guess i dont have the right core program for it. I want to use it in my video game projects.

  • is this for c4d?

  • Tyson Ibele rocks the world!

check out his steampunk entry called Hemlock.

what an awesome dude Tyson is.

He fucking inspires me all the time.

  • @ivanisavich - You should sell this brother!!!!!!!!!! its frikkin awesom!!!

  • thanks you!

  • what language is it coded in?

  • the latest version on 01-26-2011 doesnt work on 3ds max 2010 but the previous version does so WHOORRAAYYYY!! :)

  • plz tell me how did you that i'm dying to know that plz

  • i downloaded the script but i have no clue how to work it...do you have a pamphlet on hand :D?

    or a tutorial video?

regardless i am truly appreciative of this free script extension!

  • @UtubeH8tr goto utils tab

    Then selec maxscript

Then click on run script button T

hen selec the file you just downloaded

  • @cogor57

yes i know tha, but how do you work the controls to make a build you want instead of randomly generating? i want specific 3-4 story buildings without all this other parts n bits.

i wanna make a city, but instead it gives me factories and schools with mega windows and what not.

how do you work the technical crap?

  • @UtubeH8tr well if you want make a city i reccomend you city engine or ghosth town because this generates buildings whit mega high poly count and dont think is a good idea to have too many buildings whit that polycount

If u want generate a good buildign whit this is only try and error stuff so grab a beer and take some time to figure out

  • @cogor57

    okay, many thanks!

    cheers mate :D

  • Mirror's Edge? lol

  • boahh great man *****5*****

  • Hey, stupid quetsion: Can i make a city in building generator and use it in Unity 3D?

  • @Daligang Yes just export the mesh as an obj or fbx. You'll need to tweak the settings and probably run it through the proOptimizer modifier to get it low-poly enough.

  • @ivanisavich Thanks alot man, I really appriciate it.

  • @Daligang unity 3d ftw XD

  • how the heck do you texture all those

  • @sumofsumstuff I was just about to say that

  • csn you import your cities into blender?

  • looks awesome!!

  • its a plugins or need export for edit in max...? work in .3ds extension?

  • quite nice

  • Could it be possible that you can make this into a script for blender ?

  • in MAX 2011:

    Syntax error

  • Pixel City's Building generator x 1000

  • can you get this for cinema 4d?

  • LOOKS GREAT! Any way you've got a version for Maya?

  • It's like NY in "The day after tomorrow"... just add the snow and voilá!

  • how does this work like do you make the buildings and it just makes a setup or does the thing make everything for you

  • @McScappy It makes everything for you.

  • how was he able to render this out without his computer crashing on him? I am trying to build a city with this script but my computer goes crazy when i generate only 2 builidings.

    Any suggestions?

  • @crazybassman101 ram-ram-ram the more ram the better this script can generate thousands and thousands of low poly objects that eat up your ram like breakfast. a fast cpu would help as well!

Also a solid gpu will help out with viewport performance if thats the problem, a good geforce or a radeon can take some standard punishment before beginning to crawl to a halt. quadros/gLs for the heavy duty stuff. but if you put each building in a layer it will be tough to get to that point ;3

  • i have 3ds max 2010 where can i get tutorials and so on i'v been using an open source programn called blender but it has its limitations if you can send me any tutorials i'd be pleased: cammycfc@live.co.uk P.S: nice gallery on your website

  • more of this!

  • Hey Man thanks for the editor. I dropped it in my plugins folder and it works great. Im using max 11 and its a hell of a plugin. Thanks again.

  • frigging awesome!!

  • i would parkour that so hard

  • @DFaz3 OMG exactly what the generated citys should be used for! some sort of parkour game ><

  • (thoughts in front of the mirror (LOL):what to say) uhh...You are the best (thoughts:Nah this is no good)

The script is awsome (thoughts:Nah this ain't good either)...(thoughts:Found it)

You are the best scripter of 3DS Max and your script is the awsome,fabulus,marvelous,glorious,fantastic...(thoughts:What else 0.o).

  • this needs more promotion...

    amazing !

  • does it work with cinema 4D?

  • How long did it take to render this D:

  • absolutely amazing!!!

  • i have 3ds max 2011 and it pops up with an error when i open the scriped and says (--Runtime error: unable to increase heap size to: 150000000

  • @xXDylanXx13 Try this one:

    tysonibele[dot]com/Main/BuildingGenerator/buildingGen_v07_36.mse

  • can it run on blender? or is the script only for 3D Max?

  • Damn! i downloaded it it's fucking awesome!

you know that many 3d artist like you who made a program started like this

if you promote it right even movies will use it ^^

  • You are a genius!!! Thanks very much for sharing this beautiful script!!! I love it!!!

  • can you make something like this for blender :)

  • Congratulations

  • is there a Maya plug for this?

  • DUDE! You are a god! Jesus! Are you working right now? You must be... and companies must be fighting to get their hands on you. Congratulation very much sir. SUSCRIBED!

  • is there a way i could use this with blender?

  • how did u download it, it says its an mse file which doesnt work it says find or save

  • Sounds nuts, I'm sure a game developer would lap this up

  • cool!

  • My God! You so deserve an Autodesk Master Award!

We need more supportive designers like you.

You are awesome, sir! Thank you! Thank you for your Building Generator.

And I hope that one person who disliked this video shall feel the worst pain possible.

  • @thedevo01 hehe well said!

  • make this standalone and you're rich.

  • We need something like this for Blender.

  • beautifull !!!!!

  • holy jizz on a stick

  • whoa! how long did it take to make the script? pure art in it, sharing is definitely caring, thanks. will try and spot any bugs if there are some ;D

  • if only it worked for blender

  • This will be useful for the city i'm working on.

  • such a great program shame 3ds laggs like hell :/

  • interesting. not a beautiful city layout though : )

  • I wish it were also for Bryce, or something for those who don't want to spend over $500 or torrent 3ds max... :(

  • Can someone tell me where I can find a x64 version. Thanks

  • @scarecrow2k6 I'm running Max 2010 x64, and it's perfectly. This works only on 2009 SP1 and higher.

  • Wow thanks a lot man, I saw the 32 in name and misjudged it.

  • genious work!! Yes it is prolly to many polys for game to run, however models can be optimized later, which is still lot faster than making new one from scratch

    5*

  • new Gta mod? LOL

  • You made this! M8 this is nuts. Buy myyyy not maya lol. Awesome

  • dude, you can use these buildings plus scimitar engine to make your very own assassins creed game (modern times!!!)

  • great plugin. its a time's killer

  • Seen your post over at CGTalk and all i can say is simply awesome.

I look forward to testing it out.

  • haha. people are funny

  • I can see a rush of new GTA Map Mods lol

  • nope, it won't work in a game engine, too many polys per model, would slaughter any game engine.

  • depends on how much detail you add ^^

  • Simply Awesome !!! Dude you're a genius !

  • haha yeah! the proxies did it for me, never really knew what a proxy was and now I'm glad I do, works perfectly no problems.

    thanks =)

  • wow as a programmer after looking at your script in action I've gotta say this is a work of art O_O

Unfortunately I'm having way too much lag to do anything productive =(

I've generated a single building and it's extremely slow... And I notice you had a whole city block going on in this video...

Did you have some performance issues? Did you just set bounding boxes on everything? What do you suggest to optimize workflow?

I'm packing 4 gigs of RAM on a 64-bit machine btw

    Thanks again =D

  • Hi fatayer, make sure you use the vray or mental ray proxy option, and that you're using the latest version of the script available on my site (v.52). With the latest version you can have the script do several things that will help optimize buildings:

    -Deleted backfaces of walls

    -Create "simple" objects and doors

-Specify which side of the buidings you want your windows/doors on, so that if a side is facing away from the camera, it won't have details that will never be seen.

  • @fatayer4 - though RAM does have an affect on max's performance, the lag in the viewport has less to do with your system RAM, and more to do with your graphics card. Scenes that get into the hundred-thousand + poly range will be nearly impossible to navigate in the viewport with a sub-par graphics card.

Like Tyson said, you should use the proxy function to enhance viewport performance. That will make it a lot easier to navigate, even with a so-so graphics card.

  • Thank you for this awesome script.

  • okay just throwing this out there is there anyway to get this to work on Blender?

  • Blender? Really?

  • yhea rly lol I've been using blender for years now, tried others, but I mainly stay there

  • Holy crap, dude, I've gotta try this out. You're awesome for putting this together and releasing it to the world.

  • Will it work with any 3ds Max?

    Great script by the way.

  • I've only tested it in max 2009, however I've heard reports that it works in version 8 and above.

  • Just tried on 09 will text on 2010 later. Man this script is truely awesome. Taking hours of work down to minutes.

The only danger is seeing a load of building/towns that all have the same feel.

    Hope there is enough variation.

But an AWESOME script all the same. Great job to the creator.

Any other super scripts in the pipeline?

  • @ivanisavich could you make tutorials? because the newest version is kinda hard to use

  • @BiGdaddyM100 I'm working on a new node-based version. Completely different UI than this version, much more intuitive. Check out the cgtalk thread in the 3dsmax forum to follow the progress....

  • @ivanisavich Ok i will

oh and on a side note

it's not that the new version is bad or anything but the first 1.0 plugin had more city like buildings with more details maybe it should be best to make a better version based on multiple kind of buildings

but other then that it helped me a lot ^^

  • @BiGdaddyM100 The new version is in the very early stages. Eventually it will have all the functionality of the old version.

  • Looks beautiful - I'll have to try it out (mirrors edge2 anyone!) I dig all of your snipets that you animate very pro ;)

  • Would this be possible to get in some kind of human readable form for us who don't use/have 3DSMax, but are interested of the algorithms behind the script? (The .mse file format seems to be encrypted.)

  • Only one word for you work man

    A W E S O M E !!!!

  • Yeah ok cool but....how you map all of that?....:D...the time you save on modelling, quintuplicate on mapping:D...useless script....

  • If you look on his site the latest version of the script generates proper UVs, and he said on the cgtalk thread that the next version will automatically texture the buildings.

  • Fantastic...but i'm not still convinced about the useful of this anyway FANTASTIC script...

  • Nice!

  • Beyond amazing!

    Thanx a lot!

    Cheers!

  • this is incredible. thanks, and great work man.

  • very nice work thank you

  • awesome script...this is the best script ive seen so far.....Tyson u rock man....thanks for the share

  • very nice work, i will try it later!

  • Great bro, thx in advance, good luck...

  • Aaaaaaaawesome will test it out later this week. But it sure looks promising!!!!!! 5/5

  • Thats so awesome Tyson, is there anyway to make this work for Maya??....man I wish you were a Maya user that would make things alot easier on some of us lol...nonetheless thanks for everything anyway ;)

  • great script , thank you :)

  • awesome dude, thank you for releasing this!!

  • that's really great. I can't wait to check it out :)

  • That's awesome, are you going to make it available at any stage Tyson?

  • Yep, it'll be free for use and released in a few hours :)

The link will be in the description once it's up.

  • Awesome, is this what you're using for Specter?

  • Yep...I made this specifically because Specter needs lots of buildings during the city chase scenes :D

Script is available for download now on my site.
