Can it be connected to the mains using the Sony charger, like the prs 505 which I currently have? Please answer as I've been thinking of upgrading my e-reader and am torn between this and the Kindle.
I bought the PRS 600 over a year ago, and I do have concerns over the crispness/contrast of the words.
I'm wonder if it is worth getting an upgrade to the PRS650, and would there be people that still want the PRS600 for a cheaper used price? I am rather conflicted on this, as the price is still relatively high, although I paid over 300 for the PRS600.
I just got the PRS-350, and if the PDF capability is the same on the 350 and 650, you should know that you don't have to use the arrow keys to pan around when zooming in a PDF. You can just drag the image (hold it and slide your finger), and the whole page will move with your finger. I've found that there aren't any reviewers who've shown this feature, and I find it much more convenient for panning in a PDF. Plus, then if something is just a tad cut off, you can move the page just a tad.
ahh! i still cant decide between the kindle or the 650.... i live outside the US so neither devices is supported where i live. I heard that the battery life between the 2 devices isnt that big an issue right? just a bonus. Hmm... could i use a gift card to purchase books from the sony ebook store? or do i need an american credit card
@moonshiry Sony kindle and amazon kindles life are long, amazon life is up to a month and sony is near the same but i think its a little less im not too sure but i know they hardly require changing because it does not use too much power like the Iphones and PDA's
Looks brilliant. Perfect display and performance seems fast and it looks way more easy to use than the Kindle. Only things missing are a built in speaker and WiFi.
@hippievogelei the kindle directs you to the E-libary and also some authors are starting to self sell e-books directly from their website which im guessing you can reach to via kindle.
@hippievogelei See the MobileRead site and its Wiki which gives lots of places to legally download free books. There are also pirate site. Imho the price of ebooks from Sony, Kindle and Co is extortionate considering there's no printing costs etc. But free sources abound if you know where to look.
Why the hell is that Kindle is so far behind Sony yet Amazon has the biggest collection of books?... friggin frustrating .... I want to read kindle books with a Sony reader!
i wanted this one but since no wireless then i guess the kindle it is :| if im going to get a ereader ima be able to buy book on the go like if im in a car or something.
I've had mine since it launched to replace the PRS-900 I accidentally donated to the person who had my seat out on the next flight. While I originally bought the 900 for the 3G, I found that I simply didn't use it all that much. When you have, in effect, a library-in-iPod-form, it's quite easy to have a queue of books waiting to be read without having to wirelessly buy more.
the audio quality in this review isnt as good as others. also, it would be better if you just set the reader down on the able instead of olding it and having it wobble all the time
nice

@MoonChild1981 It is possible... but... you'd need to remove the DRM encryption before transfering the ebook to a Sony reader

@alquiora
i have bought epub books from many different ebook sellers and I haver NEVER had to remove DRM encryption from them in order to read them on my sony.

Should I buy the "premium cover" for the 650? Will I be using it? Because it's kinda expensive at $40

you can export your notes to word documents on the prs-600 so i 'm pretty sure you should be able to do with the prs-650 in the desktop software.

does that have a backlight?

@pjcp97 No backlighting. E-Ink can't be backlit. Sony tried side-lights and that didn't work very well.
