  • This is much better than the recording at the opera house.

The violinists' solo here is beautiful.

  • I love the cello solo

  • This was SO MUCH FUN to play. and that cello solo was awesome.

  • Loved all the solos for both motherships. I think the trumpet really went over the cello solo in kind of a rude way though.

  • Incredible!

  • It's better without electronics... for an amazing sound of the orchestra and solos. Sorry bravo guy, compu/device player!

  • @seviane That's actually the composer, Mason Bates.. :p

  • What was that piece at the beginning before Mothership?

  • He magically takes off his jacket towards the end xD

  • Was that an E-flat clarinet soloing?

  • i actually like the LSO's improv better well at least the first 2 solos

  • @plainobase Same here, amped instruments really do not fit well into the texture of the orchestra, and I felt like the first two solos were not horizontal enough; they didn't go anywhere.

  • @malikrox yeah, in the ytso the violin and guitar improv didnt fit with the orchestra like they thought that they could play whatever with no regard to whats going on around them

  • its like star wars mixed with ratchet and clank

  • amazing

  • favorite piece the orchestra played

  • 1:08 MPC guy FTW!

  • @djisomatic

    thats the composer...

  • @arimee94 yea I knew that. But I think it's sick how he's using an MPC

  • The cello cadenza is wonderfull!!!

  • what is this moonwalking bear everyone is talking about

  • @TheEgyptianOmar watch?v=Ahg6qcgoay4 :)

  • @musicissofly What is this watch?v=Ahg6qcgoay4 :)

.............. how do i access it?

  • @TheEgyptianOmar copy and paste it after the slash "/" in ur browser.

  • @musicissofly your a smart fellow now arent you

  • @TheEgyptianOmar okay.

  • @0:41 i just had sex!!!

  • This piece... is truly magnificent. The emotion that I intake is full of not just the feel of abduction, or flying through space. The solos paints an image that shows the boasting of the aliens to the inferior. Then as we slow, we notice we are not just cruising through space, we are taking in breath taking views we may never see. We see our universe. But our journey is interrupted with our speedily return to earth where we are dropped off quickly. They speed away, like nothing ever happened.

  • the guy at 1:07 is super hot

  • @shirusubemonaku It's Mason Bates , the composer ;P

  • @johntobz then he's one fucking hot composer!

  • weird......

  • Bello!!!

  • LOL @ 2:15! TUBA MUTE IN THE BACKGROUND YEEEEEAH!

  • @JessKullTUBA Oh my god I would not want to be hit by that thing.

  • At 0:41 the piano lost its rhythm

  • the video is slightly off sync with the music

  • @xSke7ch u r very right, it does feel off. especially when they show the conductor, in my head ill be counting beats then i see the conductor and it feels off.

  • @Hector95100 they Might not really be playing, Maybe just to get the track out so people know about it, that or it is out of sync,

  • @xXJawruWolfXx Ermm, hello? This is the LSO?? I don't think they would stoop to pretending to play and getting it dubbed over....

  • @mentalbreakdown123 Have you not noticed the fact that they are off when the audio is playing? Something is up, it has to be dubbed over,

  • @Hector95100 It's because the audio was recoded separately in a studio. But filming that is boring, so they filmed kind of an action-like scene in the auditorium, where they could make as many camera angles as they wanted, and could start over. So when they finished getting all the angles they wanted, 9 minutes worth to be precise, they compiled them, and replaced the audio with the stuff that was recorded in the studio. Voilla. But obviously whoever edited it did not care for A/V Sync.

  • @xSke7ch I don't think so.

  • I love orchestra music because it makes me feel adventurous

  • Amazing

  • 4:07 OMGCAT face

  • WOW. that's it just wow... Wonderful Outgoing Wonkatastic!

  • dude, this is awesome!

  • sounds like the beginning of the themesong for TED

  • Awesome

  • "Old fashioned"? Lol. This is awesome.

  • I really like this piece. I was not into orchestra before, but when I heard this here on youtube, my perspective has just change. So Good! :)

  • @jeishaofvedans You should listen to the WALL-E score by Thomas Newman. I was kind of reminded of it by this.

  • @dsavix4 i listened to it. and hey it's cute & good. its likely more similar, most probably because they are having the same theme - "Spaceship" thing :D thanks for the info. God Bless You!

  • @jeishaofvedans Always a pleasure to get people into new music. :)

  • I really like this piece. I was not into orchestra before, but when I heard this here on youtube, my perspective has just change. So Good! :)

  • Absolutely love it!!!

  • this is amazing!!! My favorite piece from the grand finale of the YouTube Symphony :D

  • i dont like this music, is like an new-hipster-kindofmusic xD

  • IS THIS ON ITUNES YETSSSS?!

  • The DJ is really cute.

  • Name track?

    Nome da musica?

  • @Lucasacarone o nome é mothership - mason bates, (the name of the music is mothership by mason bates) i also recommend you to watch the YTSO version: /watch?v=PFh7LAFel4w

  • This song is AMAZING!!!!!

  • this piece gives me goosebumps!

  • EPIC!

  • This sounds fantastic. Truly beautiful, elegant, and excellent. THIS is modern classical music. Good job to everyone who composed it and performed it!

  • 3:11 guy's mind fuckin right there

  • @Ghotiolo what the heak is on his cheeks?

  • @tw9110 those are called dimples. you should get out and meet people.

  • @dogbadgereye ... they looked strange......

  • I have to say, I like the improv sections here better than I do in the Sydney version. Love this though, it's fantastic.

  • THIS is what classical music should sound like in 2011. Awesome!

  • who cares about the jacket! do you hear the music?! amazing!

  • 8:00 - Jacket on

    8:09 - Jacket off

    8:41 - Jacket off

    8:42 - Jacket on

I don't know about you guys, but this is some pretty strong music.

  • the solo violinist is defiantly my fav to watch, his facial expressions are funny:D

  • When the info of this video says "for the change," do they not intend to say, "for the chance..."

    I think yes.

  • London Symphony Orchestra?

  • This is great. Can anyone recommend me more music of this kind?

I mean, orchestral sounds mixed with electronic beats. You would make my day :)

  • @blasenbaer Some of Frank Zappa's orchestral works maybe (yellow shark for example), other than that some movie composers like Danny Elfman. Also the cooperation of the Royal Concertgebouw orchestra and Cocorosie gave some tracks that combined electronics with orchestral sound.

  • EPIC piece!

  • It is one of the best improvisation I've ever heard in my entire life. Sounds perfect.

  • this is sick! orchestra not = old fashioned...

    awesome sound. <3

  • GREAT COMPOSITION

  • so happy I stayed up to watch this <3

  • @kittykitty1238 WOOT! I woke up at 4:30 just to see the performance at 5 xD :D

  • how good was this last night!

  • i hear dr. beat somewhere in here...

  • This is not old fashioned music!! Heck, every time i rape the play button i get eargasms.

  • It reminds me of a level in Ratchet & Clank!!!!!

  • this needs like 5 million views!

  • sorta reminds me of Men in Black

  • At 2:50 the conductor has a jacket on, and at 8:09 he doesn't. Also, did you see the moonwalking bear?

  • @musicissofly wow. at 7:59 , you can still clearly see he's wearing the jacket still. He must have taken it off in... well, 5-8 seconds... but during that time there wasnt a part that didnt need conducting! :O

must be cut! it must be!.

... and yes i watched the entire thing waiting for parts of him so i can check his clothing... :l

  • @mrs1man haha, you're right ! they had to have compiled it from different takes. and lol, it's okay don't be ashamed :P

  • @mrs1man Also, at the end he is wearing his jacket again! Why take it off and put on in less than 30 seconds, whilst conducting.... Definitely cut and compiled... Still amazing though. Shame it wasn't filmed properly.

  • @musicissofly magic, cuz he also has the jacket back on at 8:42.

  • 54 people were ubducted by aliens...

  • MAKE A NEW HALO MAKE THIS THE THEME SONG!

  • @js95magno lol, ikr. :)

  • I love this piece. It is great to see the traditional instruments playing along side with computer manufactured beats and sounds.

  • is that jenton at 2:17 ? o.O

  • this is great!

  • The cello solo was brilliant!

  • well isnt the guy workin the bass the whole time havin fun? everytime u see him he is always into the song

  • Comment removed

  • 3:20

that guy is really into the song

  • I'm not as concerned about others about whether the music is "cutting edge" or whatever (was Brahms cutting edge?), but this just isn't overly compelling. There is a lot of thinness to the sound and there isn't much going on. (I find the tapping beat to be aggravating, but that's a personal preference.) Background music for TV programs and movies.

  • This orchestrated improvisation is so great!!! Excellent!!!

  • The pianist looks pretty pissed...

  • Just a minute 5

    Melody broke my heart

  • @pterodacthylus1 Go back to your metallica. We don't need your kind of comments here. This song represents the very rare creativity of human beings. Enjoy it or leave it.

  • @deadcoww Creativity? where? Be sure I'll leave it... but I reserve the right to make the comments I want. By the way, I don't like Metallica, I prefer Mahler, that's creativity!!!

  • shit music!

  • Eargasm at 5:18

  • lol the conductor jizzes his pants quite a few times in this epic song.

  • What happened to the fantastic Conductor and the awesome old trumpet player??

  • @LeArchives Maurice i think his name was?

  • We're currently doing Omnivorous Furniture by Mason Bates with our Chamber Orchestra. I'm loving the idea of the beat track!

I also believe that the Eb clarinet is a gross instrument...and I play the Clarinet :S. However, the man plays it well!

  • I don't here any harmonies in this song, or at least melodic harmonies...>.>

  • Seeing that Clarinet guy show off in front of the camera just spoils the whole video for me.

Now I only listen to audio.

  • i think this composition is good, better than Tan Dun's composition,i feel that,Eroica is too fashion, and i cant catch the main theme of Eroica.

  • Everyone on both sides of the fence, please LIGHTEN up. Yes, it is:

good movie music / very trad / old fashioned / severely Lite / not profoundly deep or shallow. Yes,electronics can be soooo much more integrally part of the music and that much more interesting, but...... it is very well done and orchestrated Dance Music.

  • at least the composer seems to be getting into it

  • Wow, this is amazing! When I watched this video a couple months earlier I didn't think much of it. Now that I've picked up a new instrument (the viola), I can respect it more. You just need to have an ear for this stuff. Amazing performance!!!

  • Bravo !!!

  • wah this is actually really good! you guys should go for soundtrack!

  • Bad music composed on the PC for the PC :-(

  • @roarkvam I still have the same meaning of this kind of music. Blown up pop-music composed in a PC where it also belong:-)

  • Eb clarinet did a great solo

  • Those electronic sounds are awful in this context (and I love electronic music...)

  • the cello is absoultly amazing....<3

  • Who cares if it is "old-fashioned"? It sounds good.

  • p.s. wow Mason you don't look 38. More like 28!

  • This is a very nice piece and provides space (and apparently inspiration) for so many beautiful improvisations. I've been looking at all the entries and some of them are just gorgeous!

My fav is the pianist from argentina. That one is so good its funny.

  • it sound to me a kind of stars wars by the boston symph. orch. I can even see the Orkos chasing me around :P Im sure Chewbacca would like tha jazzy part with the clarinet kind of ... kind of ... Elgar, NO, waitaminute, it was not Elgar :P but Gershwin ... but where is the Dark Side here ? :P

  • 48 people can't don't have the capability to listen to music.

I know I'm being a noob doing this but these retards are downing something awesome.

  • @macaroniman2000 Wow, you sent me a personal message, i'm honoured! You are entitled to like this piece of trash, the same as the other 689 small minded people...Have fun ; ) x

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls let me ask you this, would you be able to come up with something better?

I bet not, no one can write music that fast, it takes time and your saying you could do it at freakin' warp 9. you are a waste of my time I shall discontinue efforts trying to persuade you on what is and isn't good music, everyone is different.

  • @macaroniman2000 Why would I want to write music that fast when crochet =160 is suffice? Have a very good xmas, this will be my last moan and waffle!

  • Please Hermeto Pascoal for Youtube Simphony Orchestra 2011!!!!!!

  • Its like a soundtrack from a SciFi movie... While I was listening to this beautiful music I could imagine a real mothership, traveling through space.. A truly amazing feeling

  • OMG!!

    it's so beautiful....♥

and the cello solo was amazing.. **

  • eletrronica :(...

  • @bbjmm open your mind.

god, sometimes i think that this initiative is kind of wasted on the classical community. i mean, you'd have to search far to find a more close minded group of elitists. :/

  • The cello solo was just amazing!

  • what a fantastic piece!! :OD

  • 4:40- 6:56 the most beautiful thing ive ever heard

  • I Love the song (:

  • i LOVE it!!!

  • Another typical rubbish Minimalist American composer, surely Glass is enough to commit suicide! And they call this guy an innovative orchestral writer? Harmonically? Nope! Rhythmically? Nope! Structure? Nope! Oh how cute a Laptop with some electronic sounds...what a HUGE waste, you have the LSO and a famous conductor and he composes this trollop! The Yanks haven't a clue, no culture, no history, no folk music..completely shows here ...sorry to all those Americans that aren't simple minded!

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Wow, a YouTube member who lives up to his name...

Not many of those around any more...

  • @Juliusthebastard I'll take that as a compliment. Unless you think this is a good piece? Where's your composition degree? I earn't mine at Royal Academy of Music.

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Just because you -earned- a degree in composition, doesn't mean your opinion is worth more than that of anyone else. Wake up....

  • @Juliusthebastard No, but it does mean I have better insight into the essence of the composition other than most plebs.

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Look mate, you don't need to be good at anything to get a degree in it; money can buy anything now, including degrees, even people who can't spell words like "earned" right.

Now, I'd say you didn't like that, being insulted on YouTube. So, don't do it to other please, not at least until -you- write a piece that is selected for playing by the YSO and is played by the LSO.

    Okay? :)

  • @Juliusthebastard Wow, such a moron! Its always obvious when somebody is losing an arguement when they refer to anothers spelling. And i can assure you, money cannot buy you a place in the RAM! Try it if its soooo easy! Plus i'm entitled to my opinion and its not my fault that mine is worth more than yours! hahahaha

    Okay? ; )

  • @Juliusthebastard Plus stop replying...everytime you reply I come on to read it and if to listen to this trash.....Mean Bastard! lol

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls One, you are a dumbass. Two, Just because you think it is unoriginal doesn't mean that you can paint this nasty picture of a piece that I for one like. If you are a professional music critic, I might take your opinion more seriously. But, you are not. you are nothing more than a person with a degree (which doesn't mean much, everyone had a degree these days), who thinks you are better than everyone else.

  • @empyre3061 Its not the degree speaking, its the years of study! My opinion isn't absolute but its certainly worth more than yours. So....1. Stfu 2. Get a degree loser! hahahahahahahahahahaha

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Fuck you is all I have to say. To me this is a work of art unlike your masterpiece channel name........

  • @Aaron128920 Channel name........?..... My work would contain a lot more harmony and better use of Orchestration for starters....and if you want to say its "ART" well a blank canvas to me is an up close star....doesn't have to have anything on it but it doesn't mean you have to like it. this piece is pretentious, boring and unoriginal! End of...Bored of this conversation now!

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Man your such a waste if you really do hate this certain composer and piece then why watch it? This is an example of what a complete idiot your are......

  • Comment removed

  • @Aaron128920 Look.... this is going to be my last reply. I don't hate the composer/person. But the last time i went to the toilet was more productive than this piece, rhythmically and harmonically. End of!

  • @MegaDonkeyBalls Alright. I'm not defending this piece, and I'm not a huge fan of minimalism (though I do enjoy some of it) but I do take issue with you saying America has no culture. Ever heard of Charles Ives? Samuel Barber? Aaron Copland? Frank Zappa? George Gershwin? Scott Joplin? John Cage? Henry Cowell? America has a rich musical history just as all countries do, and thats just staying within "serious" music (though I resent that term).

  • @DarkZekeX So other than the disagreement of cultures, even though I do not remember saying America has no culture? We are both agreeing this piece is shite! Ives is ok, Barber was a one hit wonder, soon ruined by Trance music, Copland is ok, Gershwin is AMAZING! (more blues and jazz then classic music). I would hardly call it a rich history in music, I think the jazz, delta & urban blues truly defines American music. Plus, how can u compare any of these composers to European composers?
