@ProgHead93 I have to agree with you wholeheartedly. Strangely, I find that the popularity of bands don't even make sense to me in terms of how popular they are compared to one another.  For example, I can't figure out for the life of me why the hell Nickelback is so much more popular than Papa Roach - not saying that they are that great, but why is Nickelback leaps and bounds more profitable? Shit doesn't add up to me.

TJ, I usually agree with you, but as a big fan of heavy and thrash metal, I have to disagree with your thoughts on metal. Slipknot and Korn are nothing like band such as Iron Maiden. The lyrics have gone from complex to simplistic, whiny bullshit in the case of nu-metal, and to "who guyz, i'm so hardcore!" in the case of death metal. To hell with those sub-genres; they blow. They do not embrace the features that made metal what it was in the past. Seriously, listen to Dance of Death by Maiden

@pumarunner88 Why do you say death metal blows? It is probably one of the most technically advanced kinds of metal out there today. Sure it doesn't embrace the theatrics of earlier metal bands (a few exceptions aside). Rather it embraces anger. But then again, what isn't hardcore about that?

@JohnsTheGuest I'll put it like this - I'm not a fan of being "hardcore" for the sake of being "hardcore". Never liked the idea... the whole attitude of it just seems like emoish nu-metal with the dial turned up to "max". I agree that the instrumentals of death metal are often as good as if not better than older heavy metal bands, but I can't get over 1) the screaming vocals. Say what you will, it all sounds like screamo bs to me 2) the content. I prefer a more subtle approach in my metal.

@pumarunner88 Yes Korn and Slipknot are nothing like Iron Maiden but that's why they are becoming so popular. I'm 15 and dude most Nu-Metal fans don't fucking listen to it for the lyrics, they usually like the sound of it and it appeals to young peoples emotions. Dance of Death is just fucking gay dude. It sounds like some middle age shit and most people hate that guitar plucking shit all the way through it. Go watch "Somebody Someone by Korn" or just Korn. It's appeals to anger that's why.

You just said yourself you're not really listening to it for deep reasons. Same thing with the top 40 fans. Metal is supposed to embrace being different from people in regards to musical tastes and not caring. The fact that you called Iron Maiden "gay" makes you anything but a true metal fan.
