One will do a short set of just her belly in a show, she can do a full diamond but for the most part, yeah it is the whole body. It also depends on who does the choreography. A dancer may prefer other moves but you don't always get to do what you prefer.

@MonCoin Ah.....no there are many different styles. All of my teachers move their whole bodies not just their stomachs. One will do a short set of just her belly in a show, she can do a full diamond but for the most part, yeah it is the whole body. It also depends on who does the choreography. A dancer may prefer other moves but you don't always get to do what you prefer.

@XxPunkerkittyXx actually a lot of belly dancers do have a belly but you will find that certain styles the dancers tend to be thin not because they are beauty obsessed puking whores but athletes who work and practice so hard that it is in fact hard for them to keep that belly. it also depends on there own body's reaction to their daily caloric intake too .. if you go look up dancers like Naima Rodrigez, Zoey Jakes and Racheal Brice you'll note that these ladies are mostly lean muscle

Bellydancing is something sensual, those who say it was used to call the "inner goddess" or to "worship the gods" are wrong. As belly dancing was originated mainly in the middle east, people there worship one god, and that wasn't by bellydancing. Sure you can bellydance with a group of girlfriends, but men are aroused by it. In the middle east lots of women buy bellydancing outfits when they get married for their husbands because they enjoy it.

I'm actually surprised by this, and I like it. I was expecting just gothic looking stripper-whores. Not genuine bellydancers who just so happen to look gothy.

To those who constantly say "this isn't belly dance" i would like to ask them what is it like to not be able to work,wear pants,or vote because they're obviously living in ancient times. Dance, like everything else in life, changes and evolves. If you hold so desperately to the construct of what YOU think belly dance is, it's a wonder you can walk and chew gum with a mind so small and closed.
