Some of this footage is from a gigantic artillery barrage that the russians launched at german positions just before the battle of kursk very early in the morning, there were about 750,000 german troops in this sector one of the most powerful german armies of all time was there, and the artillery barrage consisted of more than 3 thousand guns, mortars and rockets, the goal was to disrupt the germans as they were preparing to advance towards kursk.

I've read in book that there was the densiest concentration of artillery units (from small mortars to heaviest guns) on sq. kilometr in WW2 and soldiers were arguing for space to be able to fire at the Berlin, it would be amazing to see that...

@gunforme My step father (passed away at age of 93 in 1985) was in an 8" howitzer unit on the Western Front in WWI. He told me that he has seen brave, strong men go absolutely INSANE after being on the receiving end of a German artillery barrage. He said that many men were shipped back to mental hospitals in the U.S. because of losing their minds after a few weeks of this. Sad. . . . .!

This was not just nice artillery power, that was "more than the rest of the world artillery power", literally, Red Army had more than the rest of the world, and very high quality (germans used it).

And whether tehy hit anything, ask germans, who were sometimes losing 30-50 % manpower in the artillery preparation only.
