Thanks for the vid walk through man. I watched it on the way to work and replaced the track pad in my friends 9000 in less then 5 min. Helped him make $75 in the process. Keep up the good work on the walk throughs.
thanks for this video..... i had this model blackberry for a looong time, and i just changes the full housing to a sea green color with yellow track ball..... THANKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH. THIS VIDEO REALLY HELPED
worked for me. Note, my trackball cover didn't just "pop" off like yours. I had to gently peel the tabs using a magnifying glass and a tiny little screwdriver.
Don't know if anyone still monitors this, but my Blackberry is all stock, I took it apart, but the LCD seems to be glued to the green circuit board... I need to replace the entire trackball assembly because some of the soldering broke ... in fact all the pins on the left side of the assembly came off.. any idea how to get this LCD out so I can actually get to the trackball assembly? It's not easily removable like the LCD in the video.. thanks
@wvudak06 yeah the screen was glued on mine aswell :LL and it is harder then it looks in the video because of the little locks , just undo the bottom ones that are not in the way of the screen and lift then lift it off from the bottom. locks on without any movement of the switch
thanks man .. managed to change the outer frame. Taking off trackball is not that easy..!!!! I gave up on it after few times since i didn't want to damage it
hey i have no problems installing a new trackball, but it didnt fix my non-working trackball issue. i thought it wasnt work because of a faulty trackball, but i think its the actual trackball sensor board (what the trackball plugs ontop of). do you know of anything i can do to get the trackball rolling again??? thanks
dont do this! this guy knows what he is doin!...you will fuck up your fone even more rather get it done by a professional or some one who knows what their doing
@MARSHALL740 Which would be why he made a tutorial so you can do it. If people aren't mentally retarded like you obviously are, and follow the instructions carefully, they shouldn't do anything to their phone.
Thanks...worked like a charm. The latches on the trackball are much trickier to release than when you do it.. I had to fiddle with that part quite a bit.
yeeee you made this so easy! the latches are a bit hard to find but once you got them theyre easy to unlatch. i needed to use an exacto knife to get under them cuz i couldnt get em with my fingernails tho. and when you put the trackin ball back in make sure you put it with the sides that have two latches pointing out (as opposed to the smooth side) lined up vertically. otherwise suuuch an easy procedure! thanks alot jeffsf16! gotta green ball now! heheh
Hey man, you are the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you so much. May God bless you richly for this. You just saved my BB. I just changed my trackball. My phone's perfect now. Great video. One thing I noticed (be carefull) when putting the phone back together ensure the top tabs slip under and into the grooves where trhe top screws go.
Great vid! As mentioned by others, you forgot to say that the LCD sticks to the motherboard via a double stick tape. You do not need to take off the LCD. Just grab a small screwdriver and pry off the ring on the ball carefully.
So what about the small "pressure pad" that goes under the trackball, how is that "secured" to that surface area? I replaced my trackball but didn't replace the small pad and i want to know should i have done that as well?
my trackball is not working properly! it doesnt go up! it goes left right and down ! but up no life! if i replace it with a new one the way u did n the video is it going to work ??
jeff can you help me? i got a new trackball and this guy installed it for me. now ive noticed that sometimes when i click it it doesnt register and sometimes when i click it the phone acts like if i clicked it twice also the light behind the trackball isnt very bright and it flickers sometimes. when the guy was installing my trackball he asked if i this phone had suffered water damage but i didnt know. is there a way to fix my trackball?
Excellent video, although you totally neglect to mention that the screen is glued to the PCB!! Had to find another video, and then grow some balls to pry it off!! Totally worth it though, now my new trackball is like butter and will hopefully tide me over until july when my contract renews! Thanks
Uhhh, unless circuit boards have become static proof??? U should use a static strap when doing this or maybe try 2 not touch the board so much...Gonna do it I'll post when I'm done.
hey, my trackball button stopped working when u press it. but the ball is still able to scroll...if i was to replace the trackball piece would it fix the problem or is there a key on the mother board that would be the problem?
I have exactly the same problem. I went into my college library and the blackberry started acting very strange. I turned it off, took the battery out to reset the handset, and the trackball will scroll, but no longer select.
is it much harder to replace the sensor? Looks like you just replaced the ball... someone wants to sell me a bold with a non-functioning trackball and the sensor board is less than $10, should be worth it unless there's soldering involved
Is there a specific direction when you insert the trackball in his location? I've tried to replace one but it doesn't click anymore.....Please help...
it depends if your phone was made outside Mexico(Canada or Hungary) its on the inside, but if you have one made in Mexico the third water damage sticker its on the battery, you know in the bottom part next to the prones
Can anyone who is watching this please help me out - I'm a bit desperate. I've followed the instructions and got to the stage where I'm trying to remove the metal retainer that holds the trackball in place (approx the 2 minute mark of this video) and for the life of me I can't seem to remove it --- in fact I believe I just bent one of the metal pieces off and it broke. What "latches" should I be looking for. PLEASE HELP!!!
The LCD is actually stuck onto the circuit board with some light adhesive. It will more than likely come out with the board. You can pry it off with a little force and not hurt it.
The white dot on the screw is for warranty purposes and will void it. It isn't a liquid indicator however. those are on the battery and the inside of the back housing.
hello jeff , i am in france ! i have the same problem ! when i push th etrackball , no answer from the phone ... I think that i am gonna follow your process!! however can you precise me what is the screwdriver that you used ??? do you think that this model exist in europe or the reference is different ?? thanks
hello jeff !! i am in france ! i have the same problem !!! when i push the trackball, no answer from the phone !! i think that i am gonna make your process ! for more precision, can you precise the srewdriver that you used ?? Thanks
Yes. That is why it tere. it's also a water indicator. If the sticker becomes wet it goes pink/purple which would indicate to any warranty repairers that your phone has suffered water damage.
Trying to remove the clips is the most annoying part. I still can't do it. What other tool can I use to remove the clips? I have had this black trackball for a week and I'm just tempted to take it back.
Thanks for the help. There was no need for me to remove my LCD cable from the board though. My Bold might be slightly different from yours. The two silver latches were a pain to remove. I couldnt remove them with my fingers. I had to use a sewing needle to get under the clip to pluck it up over the two black pieces it latches onto. What a pain but thanks for pointing them out exactly. I turned it on and everything works perfectly. Thanks again!
im assuming its exactly the same for a BB Tour 9630?
Freakin trackball issues on this phone is total crap! Already on my 2nd phone, 1 month old, trackball issues again. First one had issues right from the start.
i dont know if i'm just really slow or what.. but i dont know what your talking about haha.. the two silver latches with the little black things in them?
i was just wondering if you could explain to me in detail how to pop the part that hold the trackball out? I've been trying to replace mine and am having trouble with it. Thank you
There are two little latches. Go to 2:09 (it points them out) and the four silver pieces, two of them are connected to the device, Just pop them off like I did and you should be set. Let me know if it doesn't work.
Thanks for the vid walk through man. I watched it on the way to work and replaced the track pad in my friends 9000 in less then 5 min. Helped him make $75 in the process. Keep up the good work on the walk throughs.

Same here. My phone may have been a little different. I now have a black trackball instead of that discolored petry dish ball.

wow i had no idea my bold was easy to disassemble.
MamiSoooPrecious06 2 years ago
No way. The LCD wouldn't move after flipping that little red switch. There were no "latches" around the trackball.

im assuming its exactly the same for a BB Tour 9630?
Freakin trackball issues on this phone is total crap! Already on my 2nd phone, 1 month old, trackball issues again. First one had issues right from the start.

Most likely, if not the same then similar.

i dont know if i'm just really slow or what.. but i dont know what your talking about haha.. the two silver latches with the little black things in them?
za1eppa 2 years ago
Yeah those things haha. Just pop it off, it wont cause any harm to the pice or the phone.
jeffsjf16 2 years ago
i was just wondering if you could explain to me in detail how to pop the part that hold the trackball out? I've been trying to replace mine and am having trouble with it. Thank you
za1eppa 2 years ago
There are two little latches. Go to 2:09 (it points them out) and the four silver pieces, two of them are connected to the device, Just pop them off like I did and you should be set. Let me know if it doesn't work.
