  • sweet and smooth. wonderful

  • how has black american music gone from miles davis, john coltrane, james brown, marvin gaye to shitty rap garbage like lil wayne, gucci mane and all that shit, seriously WTF HAPPENED!!!

  • @karneda92 Sounds like somebody hasn't heard of Gary Clark Jr...

  • @karneda92 I really don't know. Thats why I dont listen to this new school crap. Its pure garbage!

  • Awesomely wonderful.

  • What's with this Miles and God stuff that I see on so many of these comments? Where is evidence that Miles was a believer? I'm just saying - during his last days, Miles had devil hair. That's right. Hair of the devil, by the devil, and for the devil - so help me God!

  • January 2012 a bowl of haze in my hand I'm listening this, this is my life. Happy new year everyone, rest in peace Miles

  • Mr. Davis was touched by God...!!!

  • Miles is still the Man with the ultimate sound and phrasing...in my book!

  • Best definition of summertime that I've ever heard!

  • So beautiful! Love it.

  • Miles will live on forever!!! Sensational piece of jazz music!

  • I would like to strangle the 51 fools that dislike this song!

  • @valley03able now there are 53 fools I'd like to strangle.....Miles was absolutely the best!

  • Absolutely beautiful! Man's capacity to create knows no bounds.

  • while drivin on a long road trip, miles davis's music is superior to all

  • mad sick

  • december 2011 a glass of wine in my hand I'm listening this, this is my life. merry christmas evryone and you MIles in heaven

  • @MrVelsan77 Totally agree. What great music and performance!

  • Miles was a coo cat.

  • Hey I'm trying to get into more artist like miles Davis. Anyone have suggestions. Thank you

  • @Arcbaron Stan Getz, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Buddy Boldon, Freddie Keppard, Bunk Johnson en Clarence Williams.

  • @Arcbaron well ilgustave forgot to mention that buddy boldon has no recorded music, being a pre-1900 musician. jazz artists more related to miles davis would be john coltrane, bill evans, herbie hancock, thelonious monk, sonny rollins, cannonball adderley, dizzy gillespie, charlie parker, and anyone else from the bebop/modal/fusion eras. everyone ilgustave listed is worth a listen, but ellington's music (for example) isn't very similar.

  • one of my favs from miles davis

  • hot!

  • OK, I know I am an old man at 39 and this man's prime was before I was born. However, if you have ANY appreciation for the finer arts you CAN NOT dislike Miles Davis. ONLY THE GREATEST TRUMPETEER EVER!!!! No, he don't play no sax or a tuba, but he sure as hell mastered the trumpet!!!!

  • Clássico dos Clássicos!

  • What Do I say, what can I say 'Miles, You are million miles up on top. Miles 4ever.

  • Im new to jazz but I do love Miles Davis jazz I listened to a bunch of really good songs, are their any other artist similar to him?

  • Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, Max Roach, etc

  • @xxSAGACITYxx People who are simple like him include Paul Desmond and Stan Getz and Hank Mobley...West Coast jazz.

  • Miles is always Miles!

  • come al solito una bella interpretazione di summertime

  • Such a tune!

Someone told me this was featured in a video game by the name of L.A. Noire, Hmmm. It's about time... egh.. I think I'll just head for my record cabinet.

  • class

  • am I the only one who thinks his trumpet is too trebley and biting?

  • @fragman08 yes

  • @fragman08 That's his trademark sound made using harmon mute. Most people love it but to each his own.

  • 50 people don't know good music when they hear it.

  • I've never forgotten his awesome arrangements and playing on his Porgy and Bess album - it made such an impression on me as a young man!

    Clive davies

  • watch the "Stuck on you" version with Kinnear and Streep. Good stuff!

  • Get a bottle of wine and let this play , good times.

  • DOES do!!

  • I likea that jazz dat the shaddobittydoditty man DOES do!!!

  • Great song, transcribing it for my music teacher and I tell ya I never knew how long it took to transcribe a piece of music. This song is fairly easy to play but 10 hours later and i still haven't finished transcribing lol

    R.I.P. Miles

  • I've just listened to this about 6 times in a row. Will that add to the total?

  • Quand j'ai entendu la première Miles, j'ai remis ma trompette dans son étui, c'était un blasphème que de vouloir jouer son instrument!

  • i cant tell if i like this or i think i like this

  • fuckkkkkk good shit

  • @MrSaxmanJones I don't get it either. But, that's the beautiful thing about it. Difference of opinions is what makes the world go 'round. Just think, someone is commenting on Slipknot video right now saying "HOW CAN ANYONE NOT LIKE THIS?!" ^_^

  • Dira u srce, mozak, ma u čitavog čovjeka!

    Nevjerojatno predivno.

  • il più bel pezzo di musica...

  • Cool Jazz actually, courtesy of Pandora :)

  • Masterpiece. That is all.

  • my calculus teacher recommended this for studying. it is absolutely amazing.

  • He'll always be considered great! :)

  • Un film qui m'a profondément marqué . Thanks Miles Davis

  • does anyone feel the sidney bechet version is better

  • @93debstar No, sorry! This one is much better. This is pure smooth Jazz.

  • I listend to this when I was 14 to 18, then came 3 years of mainly old school hip hop and now I came back to jazz and its just....

  • @TheDouche "Summertime?" I'd call it "Slumbertime." Crawl out of that musty crevice, get on over to my channel, and check out my band's new video, "Modern Jazz Clinic". We swing so hard we'll leave you feeling confident and Springtime fresh.

  • @number1trumpet

you swing like a drunken ape... nice trollaccount, but ill remember your face.

  • @TheFrickenChicken This guy's obviously just jealous of the fact that I'm in a kick ass band. Hey birdbrain, my suggestion for you is that you stop leaving comments on youtube and use that time to practice. Then one day you'll be able to play as good as we do.

    Now get along...

  • @number1trumpet I'm sorry, you're not as good as you think you are. Keep practicing.

  • check out my cover of this beautiful song on my page! :)

  • Most relaxing 3 minutes of my life without resulting in a hangover.

  • Merci mille fois ...miles et rovingeye2

  • Classic

  • wow... now I get it.

  • What's the name of the picture at 2:22 ??

  • What's the name of picture from 0:20 ? Thanks. :)

  • He truly was an individual to say the least

  • People of Jazz World. I just posted an arrangement of "Just Friends". We would like to hear your comments as this is our first attempt with Jazz. Please click on my link 'alfonsopablo' next to this comment to listen.

  • i actually agree, there is emotion, style and that thing that cant be put in to words showing through, a lot of musicians have it, but davis has it in buckets full and it is not exactly bursting through in this song, thanks for the comment, better than that french 22 year old cheek he sent me, as i pointed out to him this is a forum where ALL opinions are wanted about the music, and not the persons commenting, thats child's play and toooo easy ! before davis jazz was for older people not me LOL

  • Sempre lui

  • i like davis a lot, but this is dull, boring, and no where near his best work, is this before he discovered drugs or something ?. i could fall asleep listening to this dross

  • @extrastype who cares what you think dude ?

  • @JusticeWar loads of people actually, this is forum for people to share their opinion with others, (do you get that bit ?) of all the thousands of people who have read my comment, YOU are the ONLY person to give a negative comment, cheer up you miserable pig and get a life at the same time, before its to late, IE go out the house and meet people now and again, its an unusual concept for some, try it you might just like it, remember my comment is about the music NOT another forum member, twat

  • @extrastype lmao ! now stop polluting this video. Thx

  • Comment removed

  • @extrastype wow, I believe the opposite. I'll give you that this is nowhere near his best work (Birth of the Cool was genius, in my opinion) but I think there's a lot of emotion behing his playing.

  • One of my favourite versions of "Summertime"! Bravo, Miles and Gil!

  • esta cancion es vieja pero no deja de ser bonita

  • 46 people dislike this???

    How???

I've literally listened to this 8 times straight.

I made a playlist of nothin but this song, eight times.

And I loved it. Every second of it.

  • @MrSaxmanJones Muggles.

  • @MrSaxmanJones 48 people now...whats wrong with the world today

  • @MrSaxmanJones It's crazy, but it's only 0.9% of the total.

  • @MrSaxmanJones what about the other songs? Miles has much more to offer than ''only'' Summertime.

  • @Laurensnl "SO WHAT" IS AMAZING

That's one of my all-time favorite songs to play and listen to. Period.

I like the Kind of Blue version as well as the one he did (/watch?v=Kw_F9UbNy9E&feature=BFa&list=PLC0085166B127986D&lf=mh_lolz)

    I also love "All Blues"

  • Great shit right here. I love how it's 2011 and we still listen to this. Thank goodness for people like us who keep great music relevant still today

  • @Emehms What is good endures...

  • Summertime, and the livin's easy...

  • it´s good. sim ple.

  • back then you had Miles Davis. Now you've got 50 Cent...............

  • @afthefragile I thought 50 Cent died? Haven't heard SHIT from him lately! Guess his 15 minutes of fame are up.

  • This is the ONLY version of this song. And we are so lucky to have lived in a time where we could hear it.

  • @holyfuckareyoustupid You don't care to consider Albert Aylers version?

  • @JagSkaSotaEr - Not at all. I'm very much interested in hearing Mr. Aylers version. And I appreciate you, JagSakaSotaEr (<--- the most difficult name in history ever to type) for informing me of said opportunity. I wish you - living easy.

  • @holyfuckareyoustupid I hope you'll like it. (My nick is taken from a verse of the Swedish translation of Catullus' "ad Aurelium et Furium". Google it. It's really indecent.)

  • They don't play music anymore and you cannot dispute this

  • @MrSilverwolves - They certainly don't play "music" anymore - I'm with you.

  • òtimo!

  • Jazz good but reggae more roots, Big UP milles... GWANNN!!!!!

  • @ninjamamamaman Was there reggae in 1958 when this Miles Davis tune came out? Technically speaking reggae is a much simpler form of music so I guess closer to a root.. But listen to the complexities in Jazz music as oppposed to reggae!

  • @koko4u2luv reggae is basically jazz. bob marleys entire band was a jazz band haha

  • @thehalfcast no it wasn't, they were a ska band before the owner of chrysalis asked them to go electric rock, they did, earls court followed, rest is history.

  • @extrastype r u kidding me do u know what ska is?its so heavily influenced by jazz haha

  • Respond to this video... junior marvin and al anderson both studied jazz

  • @koko4u2luv ska music has existed since the late 40s

  • Summertime, and the weather's easy....

  • Miles was about the most lyrical musician I ever heard. Teaming him with Gil Evans was genius. Will never time of this album.

  • If only our human world were rule by music i think we will enjoy in another way our journey on earth

  • this song changes my life

  • alguien conoce la progresion de acorde?

  • Christ, there's a Kenny G video in the suggestions list.

Note to Youtube: smooth jazz is the root of all evil.

For your transgressions you will be destroyed. Make your time.

  • @superjay42 LMFAO!! Tell 'em, bro...

  • @superjay42 yes! down with a world where people can make the music that expresses how they feel and their own personal style and tastes!

  • @CensorshipFTL I agree with you in sentiment, but you know Kenneth Gorelick prefers *golf* to music, right? It pays his bills, that's about all. "Smooth jazz" isn't a style, it's the absence of any style. Obviously if people prefer art that is safe and sanitized, that's fine by me - just don't call it JAZZ.

  • @superjay42 smooth jazz has been relegated to elevators.

  • I prefer Charlie Parker's Version, But nonetheless the song is a classic and one of my favorites.

  • Liquid nirvana on a cool summer's eve, there's miles to go but the jorney's the thing.

  • 0:18, necesito esa imagennn

  • Miles was an asshole. Everyone says that. Of course, they might have just been jealous...

  • @Neonb88

Or he might have been a singularly brilliant asshole. Either way, we all owe him for the music.

  • @Neonb88 I think the word asshole is too much. He was simply... Cool.

  • My Saxophone instructor played with Sinatra,Dizzy,Miles, Etc. (he is an old dude). He walked into a small restaurant to get his dinner and the 2 black cooks were blasting rap music on a radio.

*My Instructor: Hey! Turn that crap off!*

*Cook: Whatchu want?! Its just that you aint like the black music!*

*Instructor: Black music is what made me who I am today don't give me that crap!*

He goes on to name dozens of men. Duke Ellington, Ray Charles,Count Bassie, Etc.

    A thanks to you Richard.

    - Alec

  • @shinryu1285 Um...... what? Every single person you just named is a classic. I'm not sure what you're getting at?

  • @shinryu1285 Now you're just being a prick. Closing yourself into classicism is wrong. Liking it more than anything else isn't, but being a self righteous youtube poster just makes you sad. All of the people in your comment created TRUE music. They were not Miley Cyrus or Madonna or Britney. So shut it and open your mind.

  • I didnt study jazz i just lived it lol."nice".

  • @kavkav23 same here! I never looked at music the same way again after I took that class.

  • @kavkav23 same, I always thought I "liked" Jazz... that is until I started working at Ronnie Scotts here in London... then I "started" to love Jazz...

  • Miles Davis es grande.

  • My love for jazz started when I first heard the theme from Peter Gunn by Henry Mancini & my Mom bought me the LP and I would just listen and listen it over and over again, every single track. From there on, I have been to jazz clubs coast to coast and in the Caribbean, where I live now. If any of you can start a jazz club in the south of Spain go for it, it's a sure winner. I had that idea once, but I don't live there any more. People in Europe love jazz more than in the U.S. :-)

  • Not bad, but not as good as Charlie Parker's version.

  • @annainloved Coltrane had his style, Parker had his, and Miles had his, there all equal

  • i studied jazz at university because if you can play jazz than you are machine and the world shall bow forever at your fingers....jazz is amazing

  • MILES est le meilleur! rien à faire

  • 44 people are musically ignorant faggots.

  • @xXlolxtechXx musically ignorant because they dont like a song you do? Thats ignorant yourself pal

  • @xXlolxtechXx that's an oxymoron. someone simply giving something a thumbs down doesn't make them a faggot. Your comment is ignorant. I love this stuff but I don't think everybody should like what I like. Hateful comments are ignorant. Simply not liking it isn't.

  • @miggs80 i acknowledge that all off them probably aren't; but most of them probably are.

  • マイルスとギル・エバンスの最良コラボ、ガーシュイン"サマータイム"の最大表現~これが、真に優しいジャズのトランペット #jazzm

  • Just close your eyes and remember the good old days.

  • 44 people actually dislike this? Really?! I think we just witnessed a phenomenon.

  • @Baltimorehop @xXlolxtechXx @VanDalgyonTheDark @mikeblack2uk

4 people couldn't come up with original comments. Make that 5. Stop complaining and be glad we can all enjoy Miles.

  • @angelddaz ~ Umm, speaking for myself as one of the people you grouped me with, you basically did what I did. You critique my comment as I critique the 44 people who disliked this track. So tell me, did you enjoy Miles??? I did. What the internet does for some folks egos, I'm telling ya.

  • @Baltimorehop I grouped myself with you.

  • 44 people had a eargasm and press the wrong button

  • 44 people have the the winter blues.

  • yeah I like this esp on fri sat night!

  • The description for this is stupid, modal music was around before the 'original' major/minor scales were adopted and the key structure was defined. Listen to John Dowland or Holborne, both rennaisance composers, both used all the modes, both alive before Bach, Mozart, and obviously Russel's book.

  • Comment removed

  • @donnygong1 Well you're obviously right. Fact is, making someone unaware aware is actually much more helpful than calling someone 'snarky', even though they're only pointing out the fact that something's incorrect.

  • This makes me think of the painting "Nighthawks" by Edward Hopper. It seems to fit it.

  • We listening, Miles, me and my 12-year old. Music, YES!

  • I'm 17 and i love this.

  • Wait so what's the difference between Miles Davis and Miley Cyrus?

  • @HubertHoratio

    Miles is actually good

    Miley is horrible

  • @domineus Miles is not "actually good"... Hes a fucking God!!!.................. But I undertand your point!

  • @domineus Miles es un pedazo de cielo

  • @HubertHoratio Let me think...... everything.

  • 41 people couldn't make out the notes. shitbags

  • @rovingeye2 Thank you, they are beautifull indeed! As, is the number ;)

  • Amazing!

  • What a rhythm.... you know its good when you don't have to listen but can just feel it.

  • Esse quadro é lindo! Quem pintou? 0:19 a 1:08 ...

  • So relaxing.

  • @kavkav23 The same situation with me. I appreciate and love jazz because I had taken two courses in Jazz that helped me to understand its importance.

  • Magic

  • perfect studying music

  • The picture showed from 0:19 -1:08 or something like that, where did you get it from? I like it a lot..

    @rovingeye2
