What about a tiny 1 seater sports car/convertible? Imagine it - 10 horsepower (probably a 160-200 cc honda 4 stroke engine), chain drive style manual bicycle-like transmission with plenty of high and low gears. 100-140 pounds, 5-6 feet long, 2-3 feet wide, probably a top speed of around 80-90 but acceleration in town beating most normal cars! Also around 200mpg at a steady 40 mph! - Like a go-kart that looks like a mini Mazda MX-5 / BMW Z4 / insert car of choice.
If you want a big powerful car that does great gas mileage, you'd be surprised what you get from the V6 3 litre Diesel jaguar Jeremy clarkson drove on top gear!

I love that smaller cars get better gas mileage. Yes, I enjoy clean air, too. It's just that I'm six foot, so I can't exactly fit very well. It's painful for me to imagine myself as I try to squeeze into a Smart Car and try to fit my things in there as well. Oh well, I can always stick with a Camry.
@VictoryAsIAm I don't know about the Smart Car, because I've never been in one, but I have a few friends who are in the 5'11" to 6'2" height range and they fit comfortably into my Toyota Echo (which I don't think Toyota makes anymore /sadface).
They should change the materials cars are made out of (even more) so that they are lighter... not smaller. (Same effect on mileage and energy required, without being tiny.)

I love that smaller cars get better gas mileage. Yes, I enjoy clean air, too. It's just that I'm six foot, so I can't exactly fit very well. It's painful for me to imagine myself as I try to squeeze into a Smart Car and try to fit my things in there as well. Oh well, I can always stick with a Camry.

@VictoryAsIAm I don't know about the Smart Car, because I've never been in one, but I have a few friends who are in the 5'11" to 6'2" height range and they fit comfortably into my Toyota Echo (which I don't think Toyota makes anymore /sadface).

They should change the materials cars are made out of (even more) so that they are lighter... not smaller. (Same effect on mileage and energy required, without being tiny.)

@TheOJDrinker still going to get shitty milage becauce your driving a box down the highway. tiny cars have a lower drag coefficient giving them better gas milage. somewhere around 80% of the cars power is used to overcome wind resistance once it hits 100kph so just making them lighter wont be the same

Like it or not, your big car mentality of last year is well so... last year. Small cars and cars that don't suck gas are rapidly becoming the norm. Although I do not disagree that some people NEED large vehicles for bigger families or for the work that they do... it isendlessly annoying when someone things that a smart or a Mini or other compact are "stupid" because they are small cars. Just as an example of them NOT being stupid. I saved $5000. in 2 years in fuel cost alone over my Dodge Ram
