  • je pourrais tuer pour avoir une place à ce concert et voir ce solo là ... ;o)

  • Super Funkatasticboombalastic Sweet ass thump .I dont think it can get any louder ,............dam it i digs that !!!!!!!

  • He wasn't just playin' the bass, he made love to it! Just look at that facial expression! 1:04

    Thrust it! 2:12-2:30

    He spanked it! 2:30

    Pinched it! 3:39

In the end the bass was like "AGAIN!!! DON'T STOP!!!"

    This was so amazing!!! AMAZING!!!

  • snoop dogg on da bass

  • 2:32

    O.O

  • Wow! That is bass playing for adults

  • holy shit that some huuuge bass O_o o_O

  • I shook my groove thang and it fell off from funktification overload

  • marcus was on fire this night, his run for cover from the same nite is so badass, is there a dvd of this show?

  • monster on the BASS))

  • when it comes to control, sound and being brave at experimenting within a rhythm this man beats jaco pastorius...and that means something. jacos sound is crap compared to this...

this really is the perfect jazz bass playing on a precision...

  • this is the reason why sometimes i wanna set fire to my bass...

  • O_o best bassist ever? I think so.

  • I LOVE MARCUS MILLER.

  • There are oogles of truly awesome bassists out there. I have seen several right here on YouTube. There is only on Marcus Miller and the Marcus Miller sound. Take the parts that you like and use them to help build your own sound. I don't want to "sound" like Marcus, but I'd like to increase my skills to his level. True musicians share...that's how the art evolves :-)

  • @rteddy3 thats not a very good advice because:

    1. yes, musicians share and inspire each other, BUT

    2. taking parts from other will keep your creativity down at a certain point. you feel like you take ideas and become better. but instead of doing the same thing it is better to walk the same paths your idols did. thats what buddha says and I believe so.

maybe you meant that. I dont mean to fight.

    cheers ^^

  • Marcus the mutha-grabbin MAN, everybody else take a number

    5 pies OOOOO

  • My god..

    Incredible control..

  • Oh my

  • The pickups are the original Fender stock pickups from 1977, when Marcus first got the bass new. The preamp is a Bartolini TCT unit that was installed by Roger Sadowsky. He uses the same preamp circuit on all the recent 70's Js he's used on the road, as he doesn't use his original bass now when touring.

  • This guy is a legend kids! His sound started a trend that brought bass alive. He was funking on early 80's grover Washington albums. Took bass preamp to new levels with fat clean bottom without sacrificing bright snappy high notes. Pay some respect or send me a video of yourself playing teentown before you hate! Old school bassist here!

  • @muzikjedi 99% agreed. though it was pastorius that brought bass to live...miller wasnt "that known" really...but of cousre this man right there is probably the best bassist that ever lived.

  • @SaintUdnitz i agree! The trend i was talking bout was his tone by adding a quailty preamp. We all wanted that sound. I had a bartolini tct put in an old 70's jb back in the mid to late 80's myself trying to get his sound. Peace!

  • @muzikjedi wow, cool choice of an amp definately. peace ^^

  • @muzikjedi I'm a Drummer And Yes Marcus is cool But I Have to say Stanley Clarke Jaco victor Bailey, Victor Wooten , Ralphe Armstrong Did It for Me I am alomst 20 but Marcus Just never mad me Jump out my seat Like those others did

  • @dksexy Variety is the spice of life! Nice choices! Going to see and meet up with Victor in a couple weeks. He grew up with my step brother. Take what you enjoy from various artist and keep challenging yourself. I wish you great things and hope the younger generation takes music back from the commercialism it has become and get's back to promoting true talent.

  • goddam

  • sooo fuckin in the pocket

  • Not to sound like a hater but you can walk down the street in NY any day of the week and see guys doing stuff like this. Great sound though. Those can't be standard Fender jazz pick ups.

  • modified active electronics

  • Any idea what brand? And I wonder how they'd sound when played in a non slap style, which I don't think I've heard MM do.

  • not sure but they are stock on his signature fender bass they sound amazingly phat for fingerstyle

  • It's Fender Custom Shop pickups with hand made coils=) Serial fender pickups are suck in comparing with pickups of the same price basses of other producers.

  • i live in ny wrong

  • yeah but this was recorded back in 1996 and Marcus is constantly reinventing his style and bass players are always tryin to mimic Marcus Miller distinctive tone and style ever since the 80's but there is only one Marcus Miller

  • @DString20 thats why you souldnt follow one certain musician to much...that leads into creative dead ends...

  • @SaintUdnitz marcus is my favorite but I listen to other genres of music and other bass players because exposing yourself to different elements is how new concepts emerge but at the same time I have too much respect for Marcus to emulate his style because but its one thing to try and take bits and peices from someones style but alot of professional bassist try and completely mimic marcus' style and tone and by doing that your not making a contribution to the bass,it just makes you a MM clone

  • @DString20 exactly. glad there's people you can really communicate with on youtube. I once had someone totally trying to fuck with me. I asked him why and he was like "this is youtube and I CAN!!"

so stupid. cheers man. I'm glad we're able to enjoy someone like miller just being awesome and talking about him is just inspiring...cheers ;)

  • you underestimate MM too much man

  • Maybe. He's great at his thing, no doubt. I just think there's other things I love about the instrument. And this style, has been done to death. Louis Johnson owns it.

  • I guess it's just a matter of taste then..

because to me MM > LJ.

Mr. Johnson's playing is all over the place while MM's is more refined, more composed. MM's tone better than LJ's. MM's songs better than LJ's.

  • a panther solo

  • love his style!

btw, check out Mitsuru Sutoh's video, he have a very nice style too!

FYI, he was from T-Square, a great Japan fusion band

  • I liked the style of Yoshihiro Naruse. Now I have 2 favorite japanese bass players :-).

  • @bkkrh Marcus Miller isn´t from Japan. Is he?

  • @1StTubeYou

No, he was born and raised in New York.

  • Ahaha. He's got Chinese eyes mannnnn. Marcus did Marcus so well :)

  • Eu gosto!! Muito realmente é!! É surpreendente!!

  • Nobody knew how to pick his band members like Miles and Zappa

    We loved them both madly

  • Marcus is a great bassist. and a COMPLETE musician.

    amazing!

I have total admiration and respect for him

    my eternal idol!!

Great Miller, "king of slap" =)

    i love flea too.

  • Perfect timing and funky as hell! Yeah muthafucka!

  • although i love his music, this solo sounds the same as in run for cover. dont get me wrong he is amaizing, but there is nothing nwe in this one. just variations.

  • Everything Marcus puts his hands to is a jump off of the best of the best. Marcus keeps Bass players striving for more. And that's a good thing, from DOC.

  • I think the beginning of the solo looks like Scoop's solo (from the Best of Marcus Miller's album).

  • I guess that's the studio version that was originally on "the sun don't lie" (I don't have the best of album). Yeah, the beginning sounds, pretty similar, but marcus often changes his solos and uses parts from different songs. But after looking through some of your favorites I guess you know that already.

  • great vid

    this video was good KO

  • i don't know what ur talkin about, he really makes his percussive bass playing sound increadibly musical. Talk about being in the moment!

  • I c. Just my opinion. I find it a little gapish.

  • I know what you mean its not a very connected melody it's more like just a slap bass line. Nevertheless Miller is the best funk bassist around

  • for sure.

  • check this out: /watch?v=bD3zq4qBEZA&feature=related

he was young when he played this, but he can have complex and connected melodies.

and he's not only th best funk bassist but also one of the best jazz guys, too.

  • this is the fucking hardcore, I know that I didn't seen much but I never seen so powerfull solo :D
