  • Can anyone imagine instead of Armstrong, Aldrin, and Collin's going to the Moon, Jeremy, Richard, and James went instead?

    that would be funny!!!!

  • Wrong on the worlds highest flying plane the a-12 oxcart and the sr-71 can fly at 100,000 feet at around mach 3

  • @TrentAGarrett True about the A-12 and the SR-71, they could fly higher than the U2, but are retired since 1998, 1999 for the ones owned by NASA. So at the moment the U2 is the worlds highest flying plane.

  • @TrentAGarrett I believe the official altitude record belongs to the MIG-25 something like 123,000 feet, think the U-2 is the highest flying single engine aircraft, might be wrong, definitely the highest flying plane in service at the minute though.

  • i absolutley love james may

  • What kind of things should had prevented James May from going into the flight I know you have to be in a good physical condition, but does it have to be almost perfect? I would suppose everyone has something going on in their health.

  • WHat happened when he was pressurized and he asked not to be filmed?

  • "James, would you please come this way," said the attractive uniformed woman.

"Hello," James replied in an attempt to flirt.

    Best pick up line ever.

  • i want his jumper lol

  • i want that cameraman went to the medical check up room :P

  • delta plane. he says it when he is ready to take off and the distinct red triangles.

  • I wear the same system on my moped, just to be safe you know.

  • Clothes make the man.

  • U2, great plane and great band

  • the sr-71 blackbird is faster and flies higher then the u2... blackbirds altitude is at 90,000ft u2 is 70,000.. but i think i like the u2 better.... not to sure hahaha

  • @matttane The Blackbird is faster than the U2 but does not fly higher than the U2. They only went to 70k feet in the show because the U2's maximum ceiling is classified.

  • James is such a class act. Best presenter on TV period.

  • i yhink ima goen join the u.s. air force and nd fly a U-2.. i never dreamed of going into space but now i want to

  • They didn't make him cut his hair off!

  • Nobody can do a documentary like the british , Respect

  • @Beholdthebeast And no-body can build planes like the americans, respect.

  • @DeadMemories03 I guess they dint have any money left for a good documentary then .

  • @DeadMemories03 Thanks. Lockheed has built some of the most beautifulest planes! U-2, A-12, SR-71, C-130, etc.

  • @cjs2327 Totally agree, SR-71 is my all time favourite plane. Being British I think its sad that our government stopped aircraft production in the early 60's we had some fantastic planes on the drawing board at the time, TSR.2, a super-sonic harrier etc. Least Lockheed made up for our loses =)

  • @Beholdthebeast allow me to correct that, nobody can do a documentary like james may

  • thank you for the upload!

  • omg 70,000 .... why I fly at 35,000 ft my ears killlll me. I hate going much more than 16,000 ft. but .... I would die at that height. Good grief.

  • what's the pilot's last name? Cabigas? sounds filipino.

  • Spy plane in bound.

  • Lol not much different from concorde. Not that impressive

  • 9:36 "oh shit"

  • Wow! The Pilot that can fly this plane needs 1k hours of fighter jet experience...and BY GOLLY he is a FILIPINO....JOHN "CABI" CABIGAS....OMG!!!!

AM i PROUD or WHAT!!!! way to go!

  • @cbeezz he is!? really!? wow!! go pinoy!!

  • Wow! The Pilot that can fly this plane needs 1k hours of fighter jet experience...and BY GOLLY he is a FILIPINO....JOHN "CABBY" CABIGAS....OMG!!!!

  • @cbeezz everyone in america has their roots from another country. He's of filipino descent.... big surprise.

  • ertetertret

  • 6:37 you start with 'hello'

  • @Bigfatbutterfly02 For a Hello like this one he won the "Top Gear Most embarrassing flirting award 2008" :))))

  • @aeolus75 You're right. This one's worse, maybe because of the 'touchy-feely speech' in advance ;)

  • Thankyou so much for the upload, I've been looking for this for a while. Love the top gear guys, and almost everything they do/did, thanks man!

  • When people go into space for the first time, they puke. Just something fun to note :)

  • absolutely brilliant!!!!

  • It's part of a James May series of programs completely separate from Top Gear. e.g James May On the Moon. James May At The Edge Of Space, James May's Big Ideas, James May's Toy Stories, James May Amateur Gynecologist etc. Seriously though, this is a great documentary. Hats off to James, the pilots & the Beeb for this.

  • @lukehaydon Lol James May Amateur Gynecologist

  • @lukehaydon "Amateur Gynecologist " lol wut??

  • Comment removed

  • is it me or does he look like Bach or Mozart? or Einstein? lol

  • Things like this make me glad to be a part of the Air Force, god I love Aviation

  • I envy James May to and extend that is hard for me to describe

  • great pilot.......

  • it's amazing how mother earth looks so peaceful from above, but unfortunately that's not the case.

  • how long was the flight?

  • how long was the flight?

  • I thought the Mig 35 Foxbat held the record for height???? I know it held the rate of climb record 100000ft in 3min. I think it reached 117000ft

  • @andgate2000 354,000 ft. in the x-15!

  • @andgate2000 whatever the spec's are, this aircraft is highly underestimated by so many "Experts" lmao,i love when "authors" talk like they know everything xD

  • It is no wonder that they chose James May for this one. You think the other guys would've had the discipline to make it into the U-2? I think not.

  • well said

  • @randommagnum was this a top gear episode or just BBC, cuz he hosts other stuff

  • @JRayMalcolm Boy, don't make me lie...I'm not even British.

  • @randommagnum lol me neither...

  • @randommagnum Jeremy yeah, but he is too tall to get into the U-2, Richard is too small, I don´t think they had a suit for him ¬¬

  • @randommagnum I am sure Jeremy will say something like "come on! power! speed!" and Richard is too short, I am sure they dont have a suit for him (also they dont allow hamster in space)"

  • @Gatotsu2009 ..I think you'll find that James May is far taller than the usual average height of pilots. The pilot of the U2 in this film is about Hammonds height. The reason is a good one..The shorter you are, the less likely you are to leave bits behind if you eject.

  • @randommagnum

Notice James is often the one they pick for tasks that involve a cool head under pressure (taking the veyron up to max). He's got enough calm about him to handle it.

  • @De4thAnge1 Nice point, and as James May said on the top speed Bugatti Veyron test, "I love procedures", lol...

  • @randommagnum this aint top gear mon

  • His look at 8:40 is priceless!!

  • Wonderful show..FYI, the U-2 is the world's highest flying aircraft in present operation. The "world record" is hed by the sucessor to the U-2, the SR-71, also by Lockheed Martin.

  • Well, technically it would be the X-15, but the SR-71(YF-12A) was the highest flying air-breathing airplane. However, the U-2 has surpassed / outlived it as the U-2 is still in operation today and the SR-71 is not.

  • simulation of releasing himself from a parachute trapped in a tree for example....

  • I love his posh "Helloooo!" at 06.37..James is such a gentleman...I adore him!

  • You have to start with hello :P

  • i just happen to be english and 'MAY' (forgive the pun), i say ....."Helloooo!" hehe

  • Rapid Decompression - from 30,000ft to 75,000ft in less than a second.

  • Suspended agony.

  • I would very nearly give, or DO, anything to experience space first hand.... it has been a lifelong, and I mean since I was EXTREMELY little, to go into space and see the universe first hand.

Watching this, I cry, thinking I will never get to... and then I resolve. I WILL see space first hand, I WILL have this experience. I will accomplish my dream. I must.

  • Good grief. You are a pelic

  • And you're a twat

  • good luck

  • @circutracer150 relax, maybe your kids will go out into space in a future when space will be no longuer be reserverd to a small group of individuals

  • @circutracer150 Been to space yet?

  • @worteltjd lol i was just thinking that when i saw he posted a year ago :)

  • @circutracer150 become an engineer and then contribute something major to a space company and u might get ur chance bub

  • @johnnyboyfart As I said in another reply to a comment on here.. I am working on it. :)

  • @circutracer150 join the airforce and go from there, simple

  • @circutracer150 Неу, there is a real oopportunity to do that. I've found it out. It will be only a stratosphere flight (20000 metres, it's 60000 feet!!!) that's in MIG-31 (Russian military jet). It will cost you ONLY 20000 USD for a 60 minute flight! I've already started to collect money. To hell the new car, I want to go there )

    All that's yours in Russia.

  • @backdraftt You've got to remember though that the U2 was designed 20 years before the Mig-31, on top of that it uses its own custom blend of fuel (JPTS) which cost over $30 per gallon (and there are only a few plants around the world which have the machinery to produce it), which is why it costs so much to fly the U2.

  • @GunsOfThePhoenix yes, but my point is that it's easier now to do that! I agree, that was a huge leap, but in terms of today life,,,, It is available for most people!! Amazing

  • @backdraftt Same, if you have the money you could go into space if you wish.

  • @circutracer150 Sorry, I lied! It will go up to 75000 feet! With only 3G overloads and you won't need a space suit! That's astonishing!!!!

  • @circutracer150 I feel exactly the same way every day. The thought that I'll never get to do what these people do is very depressing.

  • @circutracer150 pay $200,000 to virgin galactic airlines and you can in a couple years haha

  • @circutracer150 A new era had begun, we took a giant leap on the moon, then a step back! It is time to take another giant leap! If NASA could put man on the moon before 1970, then surely i can put myself on the moon before i die! I will walk on the moon, and take these "hoaxers" with me. As well as ordinary civilians.

  • @circutracer150 say first hand again

  • @circutracer150 I thought I was the only common person who thought about travelling to space. I'm not as crazy as I thought!

  • @UltraRockSounds Oh no, make no mistake, we are certainly crazy my friend... but it's crazy fuckers like us who got people into space in the first place!

We can get there, don't give up the dream!

  • @circutracer150 I guess you're right my friend. I'm certain that if someone wants something really really bad they're bound to get it somehow :)
