  • STAY GOLDEN SAUL.

  • I think that what he's describing is called an auto-ethnography...or at least it could be considered to be one.

  • I've always created art of all forms music, painting, drawing, writing - the more i fight to create art the more i am actually fighting to look inward - to tear out anything dishonest and be as honest as possible. People like Saul Williams are the true artists of today - they value looking inwards. He's a great inspiration as always, a genius.

  • I'm glad to see of him again. I first saw this talented, genius brother in the poetic, survival-in-the-street-life-of-some-black people film in SLAM!!! He is SUPA-Awesome!!

  • love the message..

  • I was turned on to him after he was on Girlfriends...(I know lol) but this brotha is the truth. His intellect is so effin sexy!

  • Saul Williams forever. Who cares if youre black, blue, red or yellow. If you are a true artist, then you will connect with those people that are looking for something more than what we are being fed everyday on MTV and the radio. MTV and the radio are tools to make money, nothing more so don't get the facts confused. Saul is one of the FEW true artists alive today. I don't usually listen to hip hop, but his dude is the motherfucking man

  • I love this guy!!!

  • This man is such a hero to me. My English teacher introduced me to him when I told him I didn't like rap/hip hop because I thought it was too shallow.

  • Be an artist not a conformist, love that!!!

  • "this is what you can do with your integrity intact"...boom.

  • A friend and I picked up this man from the airport when he came to perform for a benefit at Brandeis. He flew in from Cali and was justifiably hungry, so we drive through downtown Waltham, on a Saturday, precisely during the 2 hour break ALL Waltham restaurants are closed before dinner. All he wanted was some vegan some shit and we couldnt provide that with our wack means. He said, "It's cool, it's better this way. Lemme go to the hotel, take a quick nap, and I'll see y'all at 7." He's been a

  • Hell yeah. He was a philosophy major! Smart man.

  • "I realize that Im everyone" I All Everybody!

  • Saul Williams is eons beyond our time.. this is the evolution of music and minds.. Absolute Genius

  • verry intelligent man but i dont understand the david bowie theme niggy stardust..... i think he could be more original but i love his poetry and his music hes so bad ass

  • from one writer 2 another...preciate ya..smart cat

  • real good speaker

  • thanks

  • is he gay

  • @mitalkditingsdem No... He had a daughter with a previous girlfriend.

  • Saul Williams is a beautiful man.

  • you can tell he thinks about he thinks about what he says kanye did a song with him now he needs to be coached by him please!

  • @QuentinFUCKINParks If youre referring to 'Never Let You Down', it was actaully with J. Ivy, not Saul.

  • Keep doin ya thing, reelblack!!!

  • I'm in love with this man

  • "Its like if you have a seperate well, and I have a seperate well, we're going to use the same well, but the deeper you go, the source is the same" so i had to look at that, i had to look inside myself and understand that the deeper i go and the more i see myself, the more i see everyone else, because i am everyone." wow, Powerful stuff, wtf is the arms race gonna do when we figure out we're all one. haha, thats really gonna fuck up the plans, i say bring on the earth federation already!

  • he turn gay when he want to dc jail

  • he said it himself, what hes doin used to be called "alternative" and now that means nothing, because the school of logic is that society's majority identifies with what people in power tell them too. people are moving so fast that the senses are no longer able to react at a reasonable pace, instead, the senses are overwhelmed and everything becomes a distraction. its clouded the ability to slow down and look at yourself, as opposed to looking at everyone else. let freewill ring!!

  • @griffin210 very well said!

  • he knows himself so well. his mind is so clear

  • Why is it that whenever this guy's name comes up, smart people are saying he should be more well known? He should be! Why is he only known by conscious people? That saddens me. He is so important and uplifting.

  • @Italrish1212 because only highly conscious beings are able to comprehend the truth he transcends..

  • @Italrish1212 because only highly conscious beings are able to comprehend the truth he transcends..

  • more than 90% dont get thi stuff what he is talking about

  • I find myself quite fond of his sideburns.

  • "If you have a well in your backyard to get water from and I have a well in my backyard to get water from, we both are gonna go to separate wells to get our water, but, if we know anything about wells we know the deeper we go the source of water is the same"

    Secrets of the universe 101.

  • an incredible wellspring of inspiration. a bridge. a wonderful soul.

  • in 2068, saul williams will be a legend that came to fame by telling people the truth and showing people how to liberate themselves thru what their gut tells them to do, not the control placed on them by people who think they know what reality is. lol. " SHOW ME SOME SHIT IVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE" LOVE SAUL WILLIAMS.

  • he is basically saying that he isn't in the Illuminati but he is illuminated :P

  • what is the song that starts at 3:09 ?!!?!?!??!?! sick beatttt

  • @AIIAnIIIusion it's the first song off of his new album Niggy Tardust called Black History Month

  • Say "You know" one more time.

  • i love him...........honestly and truly

  • I am a vortex of infinit intricacy. High speed circuitry, working for a need. A wise friend is a good friend indeed. Know thyself. Put thy ego on yonder shelf. Move onward then ponder on how much it's helped.

  • That’s some shit that I identify with lol

  • Such beautiful, deep, eyes.

  • How does he get his hair like that?

  • i admire saul's work but there is nothing new about sticking it to the man.

  • @theradioboxer if you think it is about "sticking it to the man" you must hear no words, do you catch eye of the dust in the wind, or only which direction wind must blow?

  • @theradioboxer what i'm trying to say without sawing you with my blade, is that vocabulary, conciseness of self-statements and self-expression.. that is something you must understand. People do not expand their word bank merely to bounce their checks... so to speak.

  • @IAmJonesty i didn't say i don't understand saul's purpose or statement of interest. he is a fighter and a poet. some things are meant to be sung, and he is waging war on the ignorant. i feel it, but it's not the beginning of a revolution.

  • they need to make alot lot more.. and tapeworm project needs to finish.. why are you leaving and quitting great awesome concepts that evolved into fantastic art and music than just drop it wtf.. Mooooarrrrr

  • keepin it real

    1,2,3,4,5

    learnin my abc's 2

    keep a look out

  • Saul Williams is an interesting artist... But sometimes he comes off a bit pretentious...

  • noone likes a word smith

  • i beg to differ. i like him

  • when he was looking for words before 1:18 i thought he was slow at first but then he whipped out that mad analogy and i was like fuuuuuuuuck

  • @kinetik44 Its called thinking before you speak lord know i have problems with that lol

  • Saul is my role model

  • fucking wisdom

  • love it

  • "I am everyone." I like when he says that.

    Borrowed poem:

"But now a great thing in the street

    seems any human nod,

    where walk in strange democracy

    the million masks of God."

  • that is hip-hop taking something old amking it new. thats how hip-hop started taking classic songs breaking them down and litterally ripping the record a part and making it their own.

  • fuck yes.

  • Here is a little trivia for you, he is on the movie K-PAX and plays a guy who is morbidly afraid of germs

  • True.

  • I know his daughter :)

  • @RoyalCandyKiss

    How? Lucky ;/

  • The song in the background is "The Ritual," the last song on The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of NiggyTardust!

  • It was different throughout the video.

  • BLAH!

  • now that was some insightful shit. that man has his head on his shoulders

  • Sometimes when people of high intellect are thinking of what words to say, they almost become overwhelmed with thoughts and ideas as to how to convey what your thinking, and feel, into words. I'm sure Saul had a moment of introspect to find that word to describe what he was doing with his album, which I'm sure is difficult to arbitrarily label something for him, and that word was interesting. This is probably all in vain because someone like yourself would not understand what I am talking about.

  • Protip: Writing a unnecessarily long paragraph to deliver a simple point doesn't impress anyone after high school.

  • i know wat u mean im the same way its hard to express my mind with word cause its so restricting in the way that people dont always interpret wats being said thats wahy art is great cause there is no restrictions

  • Not true, smart people know how to talk.

  • Be Human

  • you're complaining about flaws in yourself, not him. and weed wouldn't help you understand a word of it (lsd, maybe)

  • everyone's the same through the human chemical compounds, and everyone's different through the personality or conditioned mind. simply becuase no mind is conditioned exactly the same.

  • We are Gods, and we are good men, and we know everything, because we started first, with knowing ourselves.

  • Saul has to be one of the geniuses of music today. It's sad that his level of intellect doesn't appear in normal music artists these days. Music would be much better off if it were.

  • @RockFanatic319 I disagree, I think the fact that it isn't as wide spread is part of what gives it meaning. Social shifts occur VERY slowly.

Saul Williams is just ahead of his time.

  • @RockFanatic319 no It manifests, you might need to update your music catalog rock fanatic, I could make you lists but Id rather leave you with "seek and you shall find", peace

  • @RockFanatic319 Tell me about it. I actually hate rap music but, I was truly blown away when I heard him. I have not heard anything in any form of music that sounds like him. A great creative imaginative and amazingly unique artist. Besides who can't go wrong with someone who samples Bad Brains.

  • Saul kicks ass

  • you good brother are what dreams are made of. probably one of the coolest people i have seen. which is even cooler is that you dont promote what is "cool" in the mainstream. keep on preaching prophet.

  • I heard Saul at Bonnaroo and he blew me away. Loved Slam. Niggy...well...I'm not a Reznor fan at all...but I can appreciate it artistically. This is a fantastic interview. It was good to hear more about the person behind the incredible lyricism. He is a good confirmation of some core beliefs.

    Thanks!

  • Your right Saul is, to me, the most inspirational hip hop artist/poet I've ever heard but if you listen to some of Reznors music (which I'm sure you have) you will find that you may not like the music itself but the lyrics and art in it is incredible and can be just as deep and meaningful as some of the the poetry/music as Saul puts out.... and the art in Niggy Tardust is intense.

  • jeez so much hatred....

  • Saul is a free visionary elevating.

conceptualidiots have no value. Don't hate, congratulate, ha!...

  • simply genius

  • Saul is a very smart brother. An intellectual. A healer. A liberator. I love his work. I love his mind. I give thanks for his life and his influence. PEace

  • they totally tried to make him look more mockish than positive with the background music fuckin assholes. if you listen you can hear nothing but fuck you bitch mother fucker this and suck it that while your talking to such a good a positive poet fuckin assholes

    wow

    that's fucked

  • it aint that good an album though, despite the sentiment. fair enough to do what yr gut says, but most musicians, by the time theyve slogged thier guts out to get somewhere, want the money and dont care about the message.

but as saul quotes, there's nothing more powerful than an idea who's time has come. his time has come. cant wait for the next album.

  • He was most likely highly influenced by david bowie, who isnt?

  • Have you even listened to the album?

  • He comes across on a whole other level, very very intelligent man

  • I find him very intelligent and well spoken, I'm an engineer I design sky scrapers, I don't need to defend my intelligences to trash talkers. And if you failed to realize everything is on youtube, Brian Greene and Stephen Hawking are still among the most brilliant minds alive today despite both having allot of content on youtube.

  • my point was discracefully put, and not particularly polite. i apologise. what i mean is more along the lines of, "its a great shame that many people have not bothered to use their time and intellect wisely, as his intelligence is unfortunately rare, but is nothing out of the ordinary, it merely shows the idiocy of the common stock." make sense? personally its ego feeding having your video on youtube. that was my point. bg sh, nothing special there. just spend time thinking. we all should.

  • Doesn't mean he put the video on here himself. So no, it's not ego feeding having your video on youtube.

  • He actually has been performing for quite some time...

  • I remember Saul Williams opening for NIN back on the Winter 2006 With Teeth Tour, completely blew me away pretty much...he played a soild set with NIN at the Voodoo Fest in New Orleans in 2005. His words in poetry and lyrical singing is badass. I'm not really big on hip hop that much, its like that silly shit rap has taken over the hip hop genre.

  • As the great Del once said..

"Fuck this is hip-hop and this is rap, it came from the same place."

  • Integrate minds.

    Not countries!

  • This is what you can do with your integrity intact and that's what I'm hoping people will follow.

This is so inspiring to me.

    Thank you Saul

  • this is great! the guy is so great. im gonna look up his stuff :)

  • If he can bring some depth to POP music then more power to him, but he is not gonna change the beast by himself, it will change him first. The music biz is fraternal so he is either in the club or he's not.

    ex:

Seen the "Black Stacey" video yet? Please tell me what exactly does his greasy crotch, revealed by low riding pants, have to do with the song at all?

Good luck to you Saul, I just hate to see what the brotherhood can do to heroes.

  • He's not trying to change pop music.

He's trying to change human condition and the mindstate...

  • this is an artist and this is art at its best , open your eyes human race he has a message for us ....

  • hip pop/possibly rap with actual meaning to the songs

  • @ Homerjay66666: It's the song "Black History Month" from the album the video is discussing. The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust

  • Does anyone know what song is playing at 5:22?

  • Black History Month. An amazing song & how I found this amazing man.

  • Thank you very much!

  • It hurts that someone so powerful is so slept on... Saul is able to push forward while remaining true because, like he says, he started be exploring himself--which is just not done enough today. He understands hip-hop organically, internally... and he understands the power of the spoken word the same way, so he CANNOT just put bullshit together under the banner of hip hop. He wouldn't be real to who he is. He's just learning from Reznor the same way DJs and producers learned from the JBs.

  • PEACE TO THE GOD!

  • i am inspired...glad i checked this out!!

  • i like his hair.

  • Exactly what was going through my mind!

    I love his mohawk too...

  • i love him

my ears are thirsty for his art

  • This guy's awesome. I'm fond of anyone who's differen't/wierd/unusual/original. He could've just done what everyone else is doing and rapped with lame club beats, but somehow he met trent reznor, and just that experience alone probably had a major impact and influence on him.N1N3 1NCH N41L5 is fucking dope.

  • Saul's a cool nigger.

  • nigger would be the opposite of what he is.

but whos knows, he might say different if hes speaking from his natural self.

  • nigger...always the highest of compliments...sarcasm. Could REALLY NOT find a better word.

  • so intelligent. I bet you hurt your brain wrting this.

  • He makes good sense and seems grounded. Good for him!

  • Who are you to say he is bullshitting or not? All you can say is an opinion, that's it. Thanks for your opinion but we would rather not hear your negativity save it for yourself.

  • Someone has to be negative. Too many blind and hopelessly dedicated fans. I'm critical because I feel that someone should be. Also, I'm just some guy who calls bullshit, that's it. Take it for what it's worth(very little). You don't like it, thumbs down it and move on with your life. Or comment back. But I can say what I please, to whom I please, and when I please. I'm not making you listen, just speaking.

  • Yea totally, I was just stating my opinion :)

  • Justify your opinions on that excellent artist Saul Williams. His agenda is post-postmodern, beyond political correctness, beyond mere pluralism, beyond conventional postconventionalism... and all of these words have meanings that you care not find out.

  • Justify? Why do I need to justify ANYTHING to you? This is exactly what I'm talking about. You hail him as a prophet but he's just a man. Just a man putting food on his table in his own way. "Nothing of me is original, I am the combined effort of everyone I've ever known" Remember that when you decide to call yourself, or someone else an individual or free thinker.

  • I never hailed him as a propet. I see you think everyone is exactly 100 percent the same... this would be 100 percent wrong. Everyone is dang original, is more like it, and some are more original than anyone else. I agree with Saul Williams and I would also describe myself as more or less an amalgamation of what was before... in an artistic sense. Saul Williams, according to my opinion, is trying to come across as not special, when in fact, everyone is quite different.

  • Subjective opinions and objective ones are differentiable. In a postmodern media stepping barely out of PC culture, denying the creativity of oneself is standard. I have made a conscious decision to be integrative, and post-ppostmodern. Saul Williams' efforts are commendable. Moral relativism is moot.

  • Comment removed

  • @ 41fevaoaklandyadaI don't even know what the fuck you just said dude.

  • @ RobbyTheSheef see thats the problem right there, now since you have no redemption act confused. lolz

  • You say someone has to be critical, but I think that someone is Saul himself - just by watching the way he talks you can see he thinks very carefully about what he says. If theres nothing to critisise why critisise?

  • @ musiq1987. Because I can?

  • If you're looking for blind and dedicated fans, look for mainstream rap and pop. You can be dedicated to an artist's work and not to the artist but like the artist for his work. But yes when placing bands on ridiculous pedistalls, that means you have a problem. This man's opinions are reflected in his music on which we argee with because he shares the same voice, in this, orignality and unoriginality is the same thing.

  • @ Followthategg. I see your point, but I think it happens in the less-than-main-stream as well. BECAUSE he isn't hellishly famous I think people tend to put him even higher.

  • I respect Saul Williams a lot. He has infinitely more artistic integrity than some rapper like Kanye West or Lil Wayne.

  • Saul Williams is the man. His integrity is his priority. Badass, man. Badass

  • AWESOME! ^_^

    Keep it going Niggy. =)

    Sincerest & Most Kindly Regards,

  • i feel honored just to say i saw him speak. his words are a gift to this world that few have discovered.

  • whether there is a paradigm shift happening or not, people are realizing that we are all equal and one. saul knows this. the deeper we look within ourselves, the more we see that personality is not self.

  • A paradigm shift is occruing, but it will seem slow...

  • so underrated. one of my fav albums i have now.

  • He speaks with words we can all understand. He doesn't try to outdo himself and that's a reason why he's so badass. He speaks words we all know, he doens't use big words that confuse us.

  • A well of wisdom and grace. Such a beautiful soul. I've had the privaledge of seeing him Down Under on his Niggy Tardust tour. What can I say... it was just Brilliant. !!

Thanks for uploading this. Cheers !!

  • A very Pantheistic stance. Love it.

  • the truth

  • dag...i WISH i was that eloquent

  • "Keeping your integrity intact." I get you, Saul. I don't want an "inverse relationship with my gut."

  • I learned a lot. from just watching that.

    -

  • Me too, man. Thank you, Saul.

  • well he has never mentioned The last poets though to my knowledge, acknowledged their influence. that would be one negative comment. or the black rock coalition of the 90's. Hopefully he gets to work with people from tackhead & living colour, at least doug wimbish on bass.

  • I love Saul, he speaks with such humble conviction, eloquent and profound...this marks the first time I have ever read all the comments and found not ONE negative remark...NOT ONE!!!! I am moved by that, as much as I am from his thoughts...UNIVERSAL indeed :-D

  • His voice is sooo

    hypnotic, soothing

    its poetry

  • His voice is sooo

    hypnotic, soothing

    its poetry

  • The Tao of now

  • ok ..just too much "uknow".Great dude! aint too difficult estimate water amount in earth..that has been drinked many times :)

  • I totally agree with him. His mind is opened, he is a sponge for wisdom, a true philosopher who has mastered language and never stops thinking about life, himself and the world.

    PHILOSOPHERS ARE KINGS OF MEN.

  • "Kings" of men..

tss youre not much different than the people he's talking about.

there shouldn't be no Kings , Kings are People who place themselfs above other people ,

everybody =equal and has no differences.

everbody should want what they want.

but extrmist are not the ones who im talking about. the people should go for what they want until they start hurtin other people.

    So Kings? No boy no..

  • this response just goes to show the ignorance of some people. philosophers are kings of men not in the literal sense of dictatorship but in the sense that they are thinkers and are willing to open their minds and accept knowledge for what it is and not look at something blindly and pick out a word or 2 and ramble on about that. open your mind and you too can become a king of men .... dumbass

  • ot if it's acknowledged as a leader like in africa , how irt was originally among tribes in germany for instance.

  • So true, look up the definition of Sage. Williams seems to be very sage-like in the most truest, Taoist, sense of the word.
