''Through the teaching of evolutionary science, materialism and moral relativism in our popular media and public school system, we've removed God from the potential answers to these ultimate questions of life. Without God, we lose any transcendent purpose for the universe in which we live. Without God, we lose any transcendent purpose to give meaning to our individual lives. We are nothing more than bugs struggling with survival until we die.''
What a bunch of crap. If you want an actual answer, I have a video titled "Human Exceptionalism" that derives purpose in human life from a materialistic perspective.
Obviously you won't get it if you "think" with faith rather than reason.
Words and symbols that have meanings. Life is not a word or a symbol. Life IS the ultimate reference, the ultimate connotative meaning of all language and expression. Life is an EXPERIENCE, not a meaning.
@RedTailedTuna Life is empty and meaningless? Huh... I think what you mean is : YOUR life is meaningless. Life is what you make of it. If you chose to make nothing of your life, that's not anyone else's fault but ur own.
@saulhudson420 I mean what I said not what you made up in your head that I mean. You are right you can make things mean what every you want, just like you made my comment suit your frame of reality. But here is the real kicker what you or anyone else makes up in your head as being meaning is only what they made up as being the meaning and not the meaning itself since there is none
Haha... there is no meaning really, not here on earth anyways. Have kids, have a family, go home, go to work, but are those people TRULY happy? I'm not. I don't believe anyone knows the TRUE reason for life, but I do believe there are beings out in the universe that do, and they are NOT "god" or his stupid little angels.
@Severe777 There can't be a meaning to anything just like that, it can only be put related to human beings for example yourself. Which basically means, life has a meaning for you whatever you make of it, aswell as to other people whatever they will think about your existence. I also find it sad how we as HUMANS with the ability to intellectual thinking, put ourselves into nothing less but an animalistic way of life, aka what our insticts tell us, aka (mostly) just wanting to raise a family.
Another excellent video Randall, I lkie how you present a concept and allow the viewer to absorb the message in their own way. I have a hope that death is not the end of the road for this conscience, but I believe one should live life to the fullest as if it is the only life, and we should teach this to our children. Until we absolutely KNOW otherwise like I KNOW I am currently responding to this video. To live your life on faith I feel is a big mistake. Live today like it is your last day ever.
That's really funny. Just yesterday I was pondering the meaning of life. I often find myself in a state where my day was pointless; everything I do has no worth. I reflect on my day and find no meaning. But then I realize the purpose I have here. That purpose is in Christ. I find myself complete in the joy that He brings to me. He came for those without hope. He showed the world exactly how it should be done: That is raise the weak and meet them as they are. That is my meaning in this life.
The theistic bent on the "meaning of life" issue is founded upon one, massive & completely unproven premise. Namely, that for our lives to have any real meaning their must be an eternal & "ultimate" meaning to the world.
You are welcome to assert this, but it simply isn't the case. Life is what you make of it, and placing such an unnecessary restriction on it in order to have "meaning" is a pity & sad.
@LetReasonPrevail1 But likewise your assertion is equally unprovable. All first principles are self-evident truths that cannot be proven. If ther were not, they would have in turn, been based on first principles that were unprovable.
God is one such first principle.
Atheism is another such principle.
We can give reasons for our belief but they are by nature, subjective experiences.
Labelling the content of this video as pitiable and sad is a cop-out.
Speaking of "meaningless", this entire video is meaningless.
This is nothing more than a straw man argument. Cherry pick a few select quotes from some famous people & then imply they represent the necessary world view that an non-theist must have.
for me meaning of life is trying not to cause too much pain and suffering to my self and to those around me while trying to figure out the meaning of life. i get the same kind of feeling of awe from observing the universe and trying to grasp it all as i did as a christian by worshiping god. i really don't like this idea some religions try like to sell that just by worshiping their deity life can feel meaningful and not having objective meaning equals everything is meaningless.
nice teaching. yes, even the bible says all is vanity. and that our life is just a mist that is here for a little while, and then gone.
i think most people would say the end of being is the happiness of man. to fulfill your dreams, do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law. "what do you want to be when you grow up?" but we know where that gets you as randall just explained. Jesus said "not what i wilt, but what thou wilt."
@Leiflton but the meaning of life is the glory of God, the author of life, and life itself.
"Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created." - Rev 4:11
@Leiflton You said that the meaning of life is to "glory of god". This has no meaning for me.
And why does creating something logically require that the created focus all their efforts on glorifying that which created them? This sounds remarkably self-centered. Based on this logic, should all parents expect their children's lives to be centered around glorifying said parents? No, of course not. So why would a "god" expect the same unless the god in question is petty & narcissistic?
@Leiflton In our everyday lives, we admire those who do for others & expect no fanfare or adulation to be heaped upon them. These people do for others simply b/c it is the right thing to do, and they do so quietly & privately. And that’s why we admire them, b/c they don’t beat their chests & say “glory to me!” So why don’t we expect the same from our “god” & why would we worship a type of god who commands such adulation that we otherwise look down upon? Your thoughts?
@LetReasonPrevail1 no you are mistaken. God is the exact opposite of that. Jesus said "I am meek and lowly in heart." God resists the proud, but "gives grace to the humble."
"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."
@LetReasonPrevail1 God wants us to worship Him..."But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him."
its not petty or narcissistic, but it is profound. i dont even understand it really, except for the few times where it felt like i was worshipping the Father in spirit and truth.
@Leiflton I hope I can keep this simple but. (Sorry, If I misinterpreted you). Worship is giving glory to God, it's not necessarily singing. The way you give glory to God is to be what he made you to be.
It's like a toymaker who makes a bunch of toys. If they work the way he wants them to, it brings to glory to him.
And worshiping is essentially giving glory to God.
Because I personally believe that everyone person was created uniquely with different talents and views and etc.
@mikeytheaznking yeah i know its not just singing. "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God."
like Jesus said "I do always those things that please him."
but it could be through music too "Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;"
"Life is what we choose to make it, lets just take it, let us be free. We can find the gloary we all dream of, and with our love, we will win." (We will win) song from Robotech.
In love and hope and God and self and non-self and more I have found meening. But that is not what other will find it, there journey is not mine. Whatever lays ahead in this time we should try our best, whatever is beound is mystery, and hope.
Loved this, well done sir, more of this if you can,I loved the wisdom that is here, thanks

My purpose in life is about our experience and what we want to leave for our ancestors.
The 'eternal' is about the macro of our species. I won't be around 1000 years from now, but my ancestors will be.
