I have an '02 reg cab 2wd. It's a 4.7 with CAI, shorties, no cats, single 3" with flowmaster super 40, automatic, stock 3.92's and posi. I just programmed it today with a superchips flashpaq. Now this thing catches a hell of a 1-2 shift. It barks 'em pretty good. Programmer made a very noticeable difference in power, especially on the low end. Motor also runs smoother, and sounds a bit different.
Good engine, never had any issues. just rolled over 100k before the SAS. Pulled the pass exhaust manifold today and found a broken stud, valve covers leaky. pretty good for a 10 yr old engine; still runs great. they like to drop valve seats when overheated, and the exhaust studs break because they are held in by little 10mm bolts, but are easy to replace..
how is the 4.7? im lookin at a dakota now with it i took it for a test ride it spun the tires like nothin so power was good but any major common problems?
@JustRide626 the clear coat dodge used on this model had a tendency to chip and break into pieces in the center of the hood, above the cab, and on the edge of the bed.
if the paint is still in decent condition to this day, i wouldn't worry about the clear coat issue.
@dodge2289 Really my cousin had a 95 318 5 speed with 32's he could get chirp out of 3rd he once got one out or 4th but it wasnt too loud that was a all stock truck too
@chevytruck123 yup,265/75/r16 BFG km's on stock 16x8" rims
I liked cruising at ~65mph, I would turn ~2500rpm, which was all I ever needed for phoenix traffic. I did take it up north on the highway and when I hit 80 it turned ~3100rpm and felt iffy; but it never went out of overdrive on steep hills. I never went above 80 when I had the 32's on. I would feel comfortable running 33's with this ratio and still go on the highway for long periods of time.
@nick02 Thanks man because i was thinking about putting 4.88s from my stock 3.73s with my stock 265 75 16 on my 1998 gmc sierra vortec 350 with a 2500 high stall converter ! I think it would be ok!
