  • how can he act the crying part so well. darn it! i had something in my eye

  • oh my! wow! i am speechless! thank you for uploading this! when I was 7, me and my dad would sing this, tears in my eyes!

  • The younger generation needs to hear the message in this great song. I lost my Dad six years ago and will always miss him (you only get one Dad, in this world). Life is short, very short! Go spend as much time with your Dad, while you can! Thanks a trillion, Paul, for this great song and all of the great memories through the years.

  • for the assholes with your moronically negative comments:What the hell are you doing here?

  • Anyone have a handkerchief?

  • I thought Paul was great on THE DONNA REED SHOW; just so natural and unaffected. And Carl Betz was like an IDEAL dad: they had great chemistry together and I believe that both were underrated performers. Betz won an Emmy for JUDD FOR THE DEFENSE.

  • I really thank you for this. I saw the original I was 9. I asked my mom to buy the 45 so I could give it to him for his birthday. He died in "87" So I have the 45 again. He was the best man I knew. He was always my dad, but in the last 5 years of his life he became my best friend.

  • I lost my Dad 4 years ago and miss him.

  • THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • I love this song!!!

  • such a sweet song, always refreshing to hear how children, especially sons, adore their dads.....you hear a lot about moms but not about the other parent.

  • Donna Reed show the best show..today is one years since my dad passed. Very emotional.I miss my dad so terribly much..

  • I still cry every time I hear it

  • @Harolebjr So don't I. I lost my dad when I was 10 and this song, even though I'm his daughter, rambles through my head so many times.

  • song still makes me cry,,,,,,,, i knew this song over 40 yrs ago, made me cry then and makes me cry now, RIP Daddy, I miss you♥

  • I wish I could have sung this to my Dad before he passed away last year. Maybe one day, my son's will sing this to me. Great song, great show!

  • OHCOWGIRL YOUR DAD KNOWS YOU LOVE HIM DONT WORRY

  • Some people need to grow up, this song can and does touch many of us that understand...(lost my dad this year)

I could say alot but the song says alot if u know and understand....

    thank you for posting

  • Why is charlie sheen in the thumb nail?

  • @xXRogueFloppersXx Tee-hee!

  • his dad is also a racist.

  • @OrangeSaint420 "His dad" - What? Who? What the hell are you writing about? ;-}}

  • @OrangeSaint420 And you're an asshole sooo!

  • In 1967 I joined the Army to follow in my fathers foot steps as a Medic. He was very proud of me and was there when I returned from Vietnam. My dad passed away three years before I retired and he never had a chance to see me retire.

  • Thank you. My dad is in the advanced stages of Alzheimers and I didn't tell him this when I had the chance.

  • @ohcowgirl GOD BLESS YOUR DAD AND YOU!

  • @rodanvideo...I care man. I was the same age as Shelly Fabares when Paul did this song. My dad is gone now so it has even more meaning. And yup, "Oh My Pa Pa" by Eddie Fisher. Hubby of Debbie Reynolds. Maybe Mario Lanza did it too but it's Fishers version I remember. Who's nostalgic? lol As for the negative comment, wouldn't expect much more from some hump named JunkyMcSnot!

  • this is one of the most heart-warming things I've ever seen

  • Its a corney song and a corney scene, but thats for uploading it it brings back good memories :)

  • AMAZING VIDEO and SONG....... still packs a punch and from every kid who's looked up to their DAD or their role model thank you for posting.

  • Dads are a pain in the ass! Mine keeps bitchin on at me to fly him to the Dignitas clinic in Switzerland so he can die & “not be a burden”.

Yeh, like what he really wants is the satisfaction of looking up from Hell (no way he’s going up to the other place) & laughing at my ass in PRISON as I do a 10yr bid for some BS manslaughter charge. I told him NO WAY! He can sit in his excrement-stained chair for the next 20yrs & rot into his grave instead.

  • @SuperTruth77 "BS manslaughter charge" - imagine that.. going to jail just because you killed somebody. Didn't the courts learn from the OJ trial?

  • WHAT THE fuck is wrong with you? everyone thumbs dow this

  • @MUNCHIES46 Why is it that music that has lasted from 40 to 50 years and still remain popular has to be knocked down by some spoiled brat that has no conception of what good music is. Go back to your 2000.00 laptop and fry your brains with the garbage you call music and let the rest of us enjoy our memories.

  • @SuperTruth77 ROT IN HELL SuperTruth77, your father probably deserved better than the loser he ended up with...

  • @SuperTruth77

Man are you one sick bastard. I hope you rot in prison.

  • One of the BEST episodes ever that hasn`t been released yet as of this date(9/16/11). It originally aired Oct. 25,1962- Season 5, Episode 6. I can`t wait until it`s realeased. One of the most touching episodes ever on TV. In the episode, Jeff`s dad, Alex never had time for him and they had had a little tiff. Hopefully Season 5 of The Donna Reed Show will be out on DVD soon. Thanks for posting!

  • this song is a true ,,,tear jerker

  • So sweet and innocent.

  • thank you for posting this wonderful song as most music is not this beautiful and wonderful from a day gone by and of the likes we will not see in our lifetime

  • missing my dad so very much right now , lost him Christmas eve 2010

  • I first heard this song over the airways a few years back, it's truly a magical song. The words through out are true about my dad & the way I feel towards him. He is turning 60 on the 15th Sept and I often think were has time gone, I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful dad who sacrificed so much for his family. Now here is a man........

I love you dad and proud to be your son.

  • oh my papa - yeah, buddy - i just miss my dad - 4 years now and it seems like yesterday

  • Great upload.

  • dunno why I remember this song since it was released 100 years before I was even thought about (lol). but heard many years ago as a kid on an oldies station and it always stuck with me. very cool song.

  • your my dad were is my child support money

  • You know I like this song as well I find one makes me feel very emotional. a time when kids really seemed to care about their parents. And parents loved their children. The world seemed so different then more caring and loving .A whole different era I wish I would had been a growing teenager back then A good way to escape the madness even for a few moments Thanks for posting it.☮

  • This is for my LOVING FATHER-IN-LAW THAT WAS ALWAYS MY # 1 DAD TO ME THANKS FOR BEING THERE AND NEVER HURTING ME ..LOVE AND MISS U DAD {SONNY} REST IN PEACE {SHERRI AND BOB}

  • This just made me want to go out and buy some Donna Reed Show DVDs. lol

  • 7 people dont love there dad

  • This is one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. This is wonderful I do have to share only to my grandson who loves his dad so much. Thank you for posting this wonderful song. I BTW adored Paul Peterson on the show I could not wait to see the show every Sunday night. Great video and beautiful song with so much meaning. Hugs

  • Come on children - let's be grownups

  • I watched this episode when it first came on in the 60's. I havent heard this song since that time. Thank you for posting it. I always wanted to sing it to my dad but never got the nerve up to do it.

  • If this doesn't get to you I don't know what will. My dad is still alive and I love him so. He is 87 yrs. old and still works a part time job. I am so proud of him. He always takes care of his kids. When he leaves this world as he someday will I will miss him and hearing and seeing him. He had heart surgery last year and I stayed in the hospital with him. I slept on a cot they brought in but it didn't bother me because it was my dad. He took care of me when I was a child and sick.

  • I'd like to hear my Dad, sing again, not just one more time, but more and more and more.

He is too, much in the eyes of my world, and boy how I miss him....

  • I can imagine the scores of parents watching this in 1962 whose eyes got misty during this scene. Even though Paul did the usual lip-sync with the record, he became very focused on the emotional aspect of the scene and actually broke down. Yes, I know he's an actor but he worked hard on that scene. They were probably inundated with fan letters for days afterwards.

  • @JunkyMcSnot Wow.. what's THAT all about? No - no - - let me rephrase. Please tell me why you would write such strong words to me?

  • @rodanvideo - remove that comment and then ban him from posting ever again.. just a stupid comment.. don't take it personally. Thanks for posting this video.

  • @rodanvideo Don't mind the dude, He's just pissed cause he never had dad to teach him how to be a human being.

  • @rodanvideo Thank you for posting this. This is a great thing you did posting this. Pls dont let anyone ever tell you otherwise.

  • @rodanvideo someone never had a dad, :(

  • @rodanvideo Think hard rodanvidio. You did nothing wrong. All you did was post a beautiful clip about a boy expressing his deep love for his father through a song. I remember that episode from the Donna Reed Show. Not everyone had special relationships with their fathers. Some had no relationship at all and it will always be an open wound that causes much pain at times. Especially after seeing a clip like this. I think that is JunkyMcSnot's problem.

  • @JunkyMcSnot hey everyone...i think SpunkyMcDick died a slow painful death a few hours ago. YEAHHHHH! great song and great video RODANVIDEO. not sure what was up Spunky's butthole.

  • @JunkyMcSnot no matter what this is a great song for all thise who are sons like me

  • @JunkyMcSnot forget this person. they are sick or pass a bad life. but don't let it bother you. this song is great to many like us.

  • @JunkyMcSnot I'm guessing you've got a lot of hurt in you. I hope you get through it. Good luck.

@rodanvideo Thanks for the video. You can always delete the post.

  • I remember seeing this episode when it first aired in 1962 - I never forgot it - I never will.

  • I remember watching this episode years ago on Nick at Nite with my dad. I remember it made him sad about his own father. My Dad passed away one week ago. We never got to celebrate Father's Day this year. I'm sorry I never really told you "I Love You", but ... I Love You, Dad. Happy Father's Day. Jose T Gonzalez 1943-2011

  • Davy Jones did a cover of this

  • THANK YOU!

  • If you don't cry after watching this there's something wrong. I miss my dad. Happy Fathers Day Dad!!

  • I wish Heaven had a phone. Happy Fathers Day Dad. I'm Missing you as always.

  • @Newport1974 Wow, what beautiful words...love that!! I miss my dad, too.

  • I had such a crush on Paul Peterson, and I've always loved this song by him. I'm dedicating it to all the Dads I know today for Father's Day. My own Dad died in 1986, but I still miss him.

  • @smerdley that is so sad!

  • I sang this song to my father in the 60s and again at his funeral in 2007 Happy Fathers Day to every father..... You Matter

  • My Dad died in 1970. He was 40 - sudden cardiac arrest. I was 15yo. I could not find any songs then - except this one. I own the 45, tracked down years back in an OLD record store. I never got the chance to thank him, or say goodbye. I was shocked to find that someone had actually posted this - it means the world - so thanks a ton!

  • I appreciate you uploading it, but why restrict it? Paul himself allows sharing and embedding of this performance, so maybe you could too?

  • Marvelous song! As I listen, I'm thinking of my dad who passed away in 1977.

  • I was just wondering, as beautiful and moving as this song is and everyone seems to remember it, does anyone remember "Oh My Papa" I think it was Mario Lanza who sang it. Yeah I know I'm dating myself but that is also a song that is a real tribute to Dads and every bit as moving and beautiful as Paul Peterson's My Dad. Just wondering.

  • @revtami Mario Lanza - haa, you're funny. It was sung [and made famous] by the father of the actress [in Star Wars] who played Princess Leia. Of course, a 3 second Google would tell you who. There's even a youtube clip of "him" singing "Oh My Papa."

Now, don't get all bent that I've been rude to you. I'm writing this for fun, not IN fun. I love all the people who take the time toview and comment on my clip.

  • @rodanvideo Thanks for the correction, now that you say his name I remember it being Eddie Fisher who sang it and recorded it first. My head was thinking about Mario Lanza for some reason and so I thought it was him, obviously I was wrong. Also, I don't believe I would have thought you were being rude if you hadn't said you were. I loved your clip and now I think I'll go see if I can find the clip of "him" singing "Oh My Papa". Thanks again.

  • @rodanvideo Eddie Fisher sang Oh my Papa

  • @rodanvideo

Eddie Fisher sang Oh my Papa

  • @revtami Eddie Fisher sang :Oh My Papa:

  • @revtami I remember. And I am dating myself as well. Both are beautiful tributes to our Fathers.

  • Sometimes I really miss those days. I always like this song too and always associated it with my Dad. He's been gone for many years now but hearing this song again brought him back to me for just a little while and brought tears to my eyes. Good memory tears. Thanks for sharing this.

  • From a much kinder time, the message here is simple and in a perfect world it should be carried through today. Brought back wonderful memories.

  • OMG, thank you for uploading this song! I bought this song on a 45 record when it first came out and played it for my dad when I was probably 12 years old. He loved it!! lol I came here to look for this song and didn't think I would find it on here. What a treasure. Wish everyone could have had a wonderful father like I did. He has been gone for 7 years now and life is so different without him!

  • this is such a wonderful song especially with Fathers Day this Sunday! I lost my Dad to cancer 13 years ago and still think of 'My Dad " everyday! Happy Fathers day to all the Dads out there!!!!!! Mike

  • This was my favorite song when I was a child. After I saw this episode I was in love with Paul. My mother looked all over West Palm Beach for the record of the song. She finally found it and gave it to me for Christmas. Love it and my mother.

  • To the writer of this song that made all young boys appreciate their dads a little more..

It certainly made this boy do so and now that I'm a dad, I wish I'd have been as good a dad as I'd have liked to be but I do have two grown children who love me and that is my greatest triumph...

  • doubt he's your Uncle TheRebecca

  • @itsmebrad i hate so say this but she wont reply she closed her account O_O

  • To every man, I say, remember also your old dad. He is a true unsung hero!

  • I love this song and it's very touching :D

  • I lost my Dad 11 years ago today. We played this song at his funeral. It expresses my feelings almost to a tea, except he was "much in the eyes of the world", and I was so proud to be his daughter. Thanks for posting this.

  • I'm "My Dad's" daughter. I lost him on New Year's eve, 2000, from this earth.....& even tho' I'm not his son, I love to play this over & over - especially on his birthday (May 17th - today) so I can remember how much he loved me & I him. I saw this program the first time it aired on TV. It was a wonderful program then, & I love watching this now - - just sayin'.

  • This song is wonderful! You should be proud to be related to him. There is a real problem with society today. We can't appreciate a song like this. It shows what a warped society we have come to be. Shame on us. The 50's were the best time in America when Men were REAL Men! And they were not ashamed to be like this song says. If we could get back 2 those days we would not be going to HE_ _ in a handbasket!

  • I remember crying at this episode as well. Sang it to Dad with my siblings at his 80th birthday party. Sadly, unknown to us, he had cancer and passed on 3 months later. Missing you and loving you with all my heart, Dad -- I love you.

  • I just spent a great time with my Mom on Mother's day, and now really just want the 4th of July to bypass Father's day... I don't mean to be selfish, but I don't know if I can take it......Daddy I'm missing you something AWEFUL......wishing I could turn the hands of time, that evil control time has on us. It's never enough... never...

  • Great video..........a nicer time in our society.

  • WOW, this song was new for me. Thanks for sharing!

  • its really hard for me to believe this is my uncle when he was a teenager... <3

  • @TheRebbbeccaful About 11 months ago, WandR4ever wrote a comment that Paul was his/her uncle. How many nieces and nephews does Paul have? Why did you feel it necessary to tell us all that you're related to him? ;-}}}

  • @rodanvideo Aw shucks, what harm does it do?

  • this song is sick dude !!!

  • @oo7919rules And so was life in the '50s & '60s, dude.

  • @oo7919rules

  • @shurtzfamily Good for you. You said it all for me! I lost my Dad when I was 8 in 1960 in a car accident. Yes I was a Daddys Girl. This song came out a year and 1/2 later and to this very day, I miss him and this song pay tribute to him for me. MY DAD was so special. I miss him to this day.

  • @shurtzfamily well a lot of dad's ditched their families since those good ole days and many people can't relate to having a healthy view of dear old pop. It's not their fault for being bitter and hateful about it. We have social engineering to thank for the demise of the family. It probably just seems super corny to them because they can't fathom that it was actually that way for many of us.

  • @oo7919rules Then why are you here listening to this in the first place, 'dude'?!

  • What a flashback; I remember this. It was from the Donna Reed Show. We were allowed to watch this show. I remember hearing Paul Petersen singing this on the program. I thought it was so sweet. Those were the days when a family could sit down to watch t.v. together and not have to be worried about the content of the program or what commercials might appear! Thank you so much for a nostalgic post.

  • What a wonderfful song devoted to out Dads!!!!

  • @rodanvideo MY DAD MILL BEAT YOUR ASS.

  • @GlitchLab Oh he MILL?

  • my dad

  • @123sarry no my dad

  • Well, I do care, and always liked this.

  • Wow - i never knew that they showed a father crying before the 1970s - what a human moment and a charming song... Many thanks for this!

  • For the past 30yrs I have lived with the guilt of killing my own father.

When I was 10YO I deliberately put a toy truck on top of the stairs after he shouted at me. My ‘plan’ worked all too well- he slipped on it, fell, hit his head on a table at the bottom & never regained consciousness. I quickly grabbed the truck & never spoke a word about what I had done.

Still, he left me a decent amount of money in trust & my life since has been OK overall, so I’m not sure what the moral is here…

  • So heartfelt. I watched the Donna Reed Show every week and the Stones were the family that I most identified with growing up. This song is most touching. What really impressed me watching this video now is that Jeff(Paul Petersen) is really singing and not lip syncing. Thank-you for posting.

  • I incorporated the first verse of this awesome tribute to Dads everywhere in a speech when I was in high school (many years ago!) and when my dad died in 2000 it was shared as part of his eulogy. Or course I am a girl (well, older woman now) but the message is just as poignant from a girl to her daddy.

  • Thank you this meant alot to me right now that I am losing my father to cancer.

  • My brother, my sister, and I DO care and are so grateful that you have posted this.

  • My Dad, I will always think of you my Hero, and oh how my heart would fill up when they said, to me "Little Frankie" ...xoxo

  • This song always brought tears to my eyes, and looks like it still does. I lost my Dad in 1971, and still miss him today.

  • I've been listening to this since my dad passed away in 1978. Thank you for posting it!

  • remember this song each and every father's day to all of you

    it's an inspiration!

  • The best Dad song ever!!!!

  • A sweet song about Dads....I wish mine was still here so I could sing it to him. Thanks Mr. C for sharing it again with me. I will always think of you on Father's Day because I know how much yours meant to you too.

  • My father was my hero, even though he is gone he is still my hero and I love and miss him alot. The love he had for us was what made him my, hero. LadyProwler

  • This is one of my husband's favorite songs. Thx so much for posting it! I sure miss MY Dad.

  • @pippipepper wtf?

  • @pippipepper Help my wife and I settle a bet. She thinks you had a high fever of at least 108 when you wrote your comment. I said I was leaning toward over medication with, probably vicodin or oxycodin. Please respond ASAP, because the winner gets a free dinner at Red Lobster.

  • Despite what "pippipepper" wrote, this song really hit home when my father passed away in 1999. I don't suppose my children will have any modern song to remember me by when it's my turn. Sad, really.

  • @pippipepper Wow - what the hell are you writing about? ;-}

  • how can anyone not like this. no matter how many times I see this I can't help but tear up.

  • This is so beautiful. I really hope that I'll get to play this at my wedding and dance with my dad. :) He's everything and there's nothing more special than a loving and caring father.

  • The first MTV type of promos along with Rick Nelson. Someone was getting it. Yeah, the tributes here are powerful from those who have lost (me included).

  • petersen may not have been the world's greatest singer but who cares? delivery is so important and petersen delivered. Is it any wonder why 40+ years later this small performance touches the hearts of so many? Just look at these comments!!

    Precious.

  • @maryquant1967 You're absolutely right!

  • I LOST MY DAD IN 2008. HE WAS THE BEST. I LOVE YOU DAD FOREVER AND EVER. YOU WERE THE BEST. I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY OF MY LIFE. I PRAY WE'LL BE TOGETHER AGAIN ONE DAY. LOVE, JUDY

  • I lost my Dad 10 years ago on Thanksgiving morning. I wish he was able to have his turkey dinner. But, at least he's not in pain anymore. I miss you Dad!

  • back the the dad worked and the wife raise the kids not anymore both parents have to work

  • I lost my dad the day after my birthday. Miss that dude!!!

  • ... sniff....

  • A woman I knew who was a big Paul Petersen fan has this as a favorite episode of the Donna Reed show-either this or the later one where he sings the song.(As a man,I liked the episodes where Shelley Fabares sang Johnny Angel a little better.Chuckle!)

This song is really a fine tribute to anybody's father.

  • Have always loved this song...makes me think of my dad. Kinda chokes me up still at 58.

  • at 62 its ahard song to lisen to without getting all choked up

  • so touching

  • Although I am a woman this song was always special to me because of my relationship with my dad. As a daddys girl at the age of 38 some 21 yrs ago as he lay dying from cancer I held his hand, carresed his tear streeked cheek and sang this song to him. Thank you Paul for this wonderful song. What a wonderful way to say I love and goodbuy.

  • This song is dope because you never hear a song about a dad from his son!

  • I ONLY HOPE WHEN MY SON AND DAUGHTER MANY YEARS FROM KNOW.. WHEN I AM NO LONGER ON THIS PLANET.. HAVE THE PRIDE FOR ME THIS SONG PROJECTS FOR ME AS A DAD.. ITS A BEAUTIFUL THING !!!! THANKS FOR THIS UPLOAD YOU ARE DOING FATHERS EVERY WHERE A GREAT THING......

  • I am so lucky to still have my dad. He's 86 yrs. old and just had a pacemaker put in 3 wks. ago. He still works full time. I was worried about him for awhile. Sometimes he gets cranky but I understand that because he is old and his body is worn out. He always took care of his children. We never needed for nothing. He is my hero. Always will be and I always look up to him. Bless you for posting this. Very touching song.

  • God, when I listened to this song, I wanted to give a hug to my daddy and he pushed me away cos i made him lose a ball on Brickbreaker :s

But I love him anyway :)

    Great song :)

  • BRAVO-BRAVO.

  • Thanks for posting this.. It's wonderful..

  • My dad bought this record for his dad in 1969, and I always play this on fathers day. Love you dad.

  • I lost my Dad in Jan. 2010 and That was my Hero..he was Superman to me...Cop Truck Driver and Bike rider...unstoppable ....Cancer took a man who could do anything to a man who never woke up....I LOVE YOU DAD and I hope I am doing right in life and will never let you down...Dirty Dawg ....!948-2010 Eddie Cusimano Sr.

  • @gino091304 in my life, the strongest man on the planet died september 12, 2007. my dad. cancer took him, too. he was everything strong, the mountain on the horizon that gave everything perspective. where i learned the value and idea of honor. my kids and grandkids will learn what he taught me. you go, dawg. god rest your dad.

  • @gino091304 Is your Grandfather Michael Cusimano by any chance are u from Hoboken , New Jersey

  • @gino091304 Beautifully said. Thanks for sharing that.

  • @gino091304 I am so sorry to hear about your Dads passing. I lost my Dad in1986. He was always John Wayne too me. He held me up in his strong arms and I loved him so. I will always pray that he's as proud of me as I am of him. I miss him so much. It never get's any eiser but I know he's with my Mother and Jesus, and that makes it a little easier for me and I know I'll see him someday. In his Stesten hat and his cigar we will someday walk together in God's kingdom again.

  • @gino091304 That was really sweet. <3

  • Very touching. Thanks for the upload

  • As a father..this song tears me up, literally..but it's very unrealistic..how did they get this kid to sing this?...my teenage son thinks I'm the stupidest person in the world..and "anybody that raises a teenager TODAY should not have to go to hell"...so I keep loving my teenager son and pray and dream of the day that my son sings this to me

  • @carpenterabc then you are probably doing it right. I swear I wished for my dad's demise many many times when I was young. Thankfully, at 83 he is still with me today. I my mother just passed and I fear for my dad every minute...but with your son, he just doesn't know yet...he knows, but doesn't know...if that makes any sense...

  • @carpenterabc I think parents back then had morals and scrupels, thats not to say that all parents are that way. I have seen parents who let their kids do and have anything they want. What happens, these kids think they are owed everything and when they don't get it they have a fit. They don't work for things like we used to do. I never disrepected my parents, not only out of fear but they fed me and clothed me, and gave me shelter. I was grateful for that .

  • Wow! :)

  • This song reminds me of my dad, now he was a hero to me as well as my dad. I Love And Miss You Dad.. LadyProwler

  • My relationship with my dad was like this he died when i was 25 the same day my mom died 23 years later.

  • thankyou. Wonderful. God bless our lovely dad.

  • Thank you for posting this. I've been searching for this song high and low. No one I know ever remembers it. Always makes me cry and miss my dad.

  • I have always loved this song. My dad's been gone for over a year, and I still miss him every day. Thank you rodanvideo for sharing this.

  • What a touching song....I wonder how many kids feel this way today? It seems like we have forgotten about values and pride.
