Funny how songs can bring back specific places & memories... I'll never be able to hear this song without thinking of summers working at the shore in Ocean City MD. Thanks for uploading.

A lot of people say that songs like this are for older people but i love this song SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much and im only 15 i wish songs were still made like this :))
I love this song! I've probably already commented on this but I'm going to again anyway. The summer I was 16, I worked at the pool at the state park close to our house and one of the guys that worked there that played the music for the snack bar & pool area, always played this and several Grass Roots songs for me when ever I worked. I thought that was so sweet of him. That was a great summer. Thanks for posting this video. It brings back great memories. Thanks again, Rhonda
IT WAS GOOD TO SEE THIS ON YOU TUBE. REMEMBER HEARING THIS ON THE RADIO (THINK IT WAS IN THE 70'S) BUT DIDNT KNOW WHO THE ARTIST/S WERE. AS IT WASNT A HIT IN THE UK. DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT YEAR THIS CAME OUT?
@maccafan10 i know it has been a long while since you posted it, but i just thought It was kinda weird that you say that about finding your self a regular guy or a fireman. Because my ex is a sailor and my bf now is a Fireman oh and my 1st name is Brandy. I just thought i might through that out there.
I never met a musician that didn't love this classy pop tune. Check out the Red Hot Chili Peppers cover and see how much they love this one hit wonder!
you got to love chill songs like brandi you're a fine girl, summer breeze, sittin' on the dock of the bay, dancing in the moonlight, stir it up, across the universe, and other songs to that nature. they are so pure and meaningful. kinda makes you want new music like that, but apparently, people are too wrapped up in their shallow music (about sex, drugs, and sex) to go back to that peaceful, relaxed sound...
Brings Back so many Amazing memories when I was just a little kid, my mom to this day (As do I) LOVE THIS SONG! It takes you back, to Great times..Ahhhh...
This song is really about an Irish bar girl working in Rota, Spain. The bar owners recruited Irish girls who could talk to the American sailors and Marines stationed at the base there back in the 1960s and 1970s.
I feel like a lot of people are misinterpreting the song. The way i see it is making a more general statement about relationships. In love, people want what they can't have.
At first, the line is "your eyes could steal a sailor from the sea." It's talking about how all these sailors would end their careers as a sailors to be with her, but she doesn't love them. She already loves someone else, but 'his life his love and his lady is the sea.' She wants the one sailor who can't be with her.
i remember this song, radio station-KHJ, Los Angeles, was playing like every hour and soon i dreaded it, but i can stand hearing it now, thanks for the post :)
Interesting thing..."Looking Glass" was actually known for their "hard rock" music, even in the early 70s. But "Brandy" took off on the charts and became their most popular song. When they did a concert, most of the audience was from the "Brandy" school of music. When they went into their "rock" songs, the crowd was so incensed, they started throwing things at the stage!
A differnet theory to the song. Im no sailor , but married and (my brandy) knows i can never be with her, but she still loves me./////............and damn she is one fine girl that i want to keep but cant.
An excellent pop single. Any girl named Brandy has had to endure me singing this song several hundred times-I'm sure it irritates them, but I mean it as a compliment!
some should make a Navy video of this song. I know an old retired Master chief still married to his first wife. She is a good lady who still stands by that old salt.
Great song, and I was born in '89. Always hear about the good ole days (60s and 70s) from my dad. If it wasn't for the fact that he wouldn't be my father, I'd love to have lived back in that time.
memorable tune that came outta nowhere and suddenly was a hit in the early 70s. i guess i'm liking more songs now that feature brass and hammond organs (or their equivalent :) that blast out from the past.
Always remember these souls with at least part of a Rosary if your part of their Family...So that they return safe from the "Perfect Storm..." Dan O'Niallain
Ahh, the good old days. When everyone loved great songs like this on cheap AM transistor radios. No obscenity, bad attitude, skanky outfits or cheap shock value. But way more lasting impact, because the songs were simply better. Period. I hope music returns there someday, so the younger generations can have music to look back on and cherish.
It's weird that I come to this video and see all the people talking about how they remember the song when they were young. I'm only 20 and love this song, I hear it all the time at work. Truly music that survives the change of time.

@Magestrix Isn't it strange how some songs just grab you and won't let go? You love them from the first time you hear them and no matter what else you hear in later life, you still go back to them and love them all over again.
Ths song brings back so many memories. I used to work in a bowling alley with an attached bar on Saturday nights and if this song wasn't played at least four or five times that night it was a slow night. After hearing that song so many times back then it is amazing that I still like it now. It is just a good tune!
What weird feelings come over me when I hear this. Wood paneling, shag carpet, console stereos, strings of glass beads for doors, black lights, ...oh...and bell bottoms al come to mind. I forgot I lived through all that.
Oh my, this brings back so many memories.. I used to get teary eyed thinking of the sad story... I found this when I was searching for another seventies tune, Jackie Blue a fave which has stayed with me for decades... good music lives forever!
You go Patriot. Mar 23, 62 here. I encourage all of today's kids to learn to play an instrument and form their own bands and write songs like what came out in the mid 60's through the late 70's. We had the best music.
Brandy, the Edmund Fitzgerald and the Doors "Land Ho" are staple songs at bars that serve the Sailors in Gloucester and throughout the World to do that 110% if the Crew thinks the Captain is leading them into the "Perfect Song" and God Bless those Souls. Amen...Dan O'Niallain
A wonderful song, but as a sailor's wife (semper paratus!) living in coastal Oregon, the local station played this song several times a day. Tough listening when your husband is under way for another 2 months... and yet, it's so beautifully written you can't help it.
This is a one-hit wonder, for sure. But it is one of the best pop songs recorded in the 1970's. Why they could not do another song as good is a mystery. This is one of my to-50 all time songs - well written and performed.
I love this song! It takes me right back to a sweet time in my life. I think we all knew a girl like Brandy...tough as nails {and} a real no-nonsence...don't play, give me my money, kind of girl...LOL!
This may be the most positive page on youtube, almost all of the comments have over 30 thumbs up!

Oh yeah "computer" is not an instrument.
