  • I had the original Philips Maganvox classic, the new philips maganavox classic where you can hook up a printer w/o the xtra parts. I got rid of both those but still have the Philips Maganvox Plus. Although I dont use it.

  • Oh man, I joined just at the tail end of it still being called WebTV and then it changed to msnTV. Many memories! I actually still have a Sony and Phillips WebTV Plus. The Phillips came with a Web Eye which I never used. I remember making e-mail sigs, going to the discussion groups and Talk City. Good times. :)

  • Is WebTV capable with today's websites?

  • The webtv i had in 1995 was a Magnavox unit later plus and i payed 19.95 had plus unit...anyway make short i live in Georgia in Powdersprings area usin at&t lines and over 8 ISP's so toll free dial up n used

  • Waiting and waiting to get online listening to this and having the house phone not be able to receive calls while WebTv was on. Is WebTv still around?

  • I had the original, and the plus. When I bought the original in 1997, it was probably only tenth time I actually went on-line. The other times I used friends computers. This unit was a cheaper alternative. I think I used it till late 99, or early 2000. I remember the bulletin boards, and the talk city chat. Plus I logged in to yahoo many times. It was limited to that though. No real video, maybe a 15 second clip, now and then. Still for the price not bad at all. AOL came out with one

  • @talltom1973 but it was junk, I had it for two months, and luckily the store took it back. It was slower than webtv, and had many problems.

  • OMFG! I LOVED THIS SCREEN SO MUCH! I had WebTv when it was run by Philips and had the Philips Logo on it.. I took it off as soon as it was bought out by MSN

  • Connecting took some time but then when it finally said connected..i was like "yeah" lol.. And yes, back then webtv was very cheap alternative to high price computers.. I bought mine with my very first pay check from my first summer job .. I was 16 and was just excited..

  • I remember the chat rooms, this brings back so much!

  • i would only want the webtv back again only for the music

  • I became a WEBTV addict from 4/99 until mine finally died in 2010. Sure I had several PCs along the way but I missed the discussion groups. PC's breaking down, with viruses, worms and bad manufacturing. I've been on IMAC since Jan 2010, with cable and there is no turning back.

  • WebTV didn't suck. It was wonderful for its time. It gave us cheap and accessible internet to those who couldn't afford the 1500$ computers of the 1990s. I had both pc internet (Delphi) and webTV, webtv wasn't much slower than regular dialup. You're just spoiled these days by high speed internet. It didn't exist back then.

  • @LFactorSA Yeah I got WebTV back in 1997 when my best friend joined the Peace Corps and was heading to Paraguay. Didn't have the need for a computer back in those days so the WebTV was great for me, actually I was the first one "online" in my family with this, was so fresh and new. With this I signed up my 2 cousins and my parents with their own accounts, I recall people racing to their mail when the red light would come on, even in chat, I wasn't the only one with this, it was great.

  • Man this music made me feel 15. I'd love to hear more. .. U kno Thomas Dolby , the " SCIENCE!" song guy. Wrote these songs

  • When was this filmed

  • @jaredlegomaster I recorded it from WebTv to VHS around 1998 or so, burnt to DVD, transfered to computer then to youtube Mar.-5-2011

  • Yes, this is the intro I remember. hudsonvalleyguy has a video but I remember the city in the back not being so bright and forward like in his. I completely forgot about that jingle that plays with the MSN logo too.

My age and the freshness of the internet then makes it seem much better than it is now. I remember my main gripe, besides it using what I have to assume is a modem below 56k, is that I couldn't use emulators. I even emailed them asking to support emus once :P I was young and dumb :)

  • I had webtv from 98 all the way till 08. by the time 2008 came, I wanted to throw my webtv out the window. ..lol

  • @guillermovlogs ...lol

  • thank you

  • This was the first way I was able to really get on the internet back in 98. I was in the military and bought one. Then bought my first PC in Okinawa in 99. It was a wopping 6gig hard drive lmao.

  • Hey, can you play some of the background music? There are a few floating around YouTube but I'd love to hear more.

  • good times.

  • Watching this brings back so many memories. I went through this long wait in 1998.

  • @SYCHOTIC79 same here, you could pick out your background music..heh,.. of what little they provided if I remember correctly ... which if you were on chat all night you hear the same music over and over and over...then turn on a radio or cd player because your sick of that music. Type in HTML code to put cool graphics on there(cool at that time)...and etc...
