@amandalovesmadness, yeah no don't think so. BMW is a far superior car in regards to safety and on road performance. Proof? NCAP rated the range rover as 4 out of 5 stars for crash protection, the previous generation x5 got full marks.... In addition, the 2010 range rover 5.0L V8 goes 0 to 100kph (or 62mph) in 7.2 seconds. The twin turbo straight 6 DIESEL in the x5 does 6.6 seconds.
@theguy459 >> 2010 Range Rover has naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 engine - durable like a tank, unlike BMW - burns red hot. "On-road performance?" 1 second difference in 0-60, yields you 20 more years of service from your Range Rover ;) Crash test ala real life? Range Rover's 5700lbs vs BMW X5 4600lbs in head-on collision? Larger guy wins, since your chances of hitting solid steel alloy wall are pretty slim (I guess), in real world that's a car v car battle, where Rover wins. Off-road? Google it:)
@Dmitry220, bwhahaha did you seriously just call a land rover reliable?? also although the range rover has more mass (which leads to a hole load of disadvantages such as increased fuel consuption, reduced acceleration, increased braking distance, reduced cornering speed ect) there are a load load of variables which influences the way a crash turns out, because the bmw has a more ridged body structure in addition to more efficent crumple zones while maintaining around the same ground clearence
I still maintain that the x5 would be better in a "real world" crash. You really can't argue about the range rover being better on road because it simply isnt. Rear biased 4wd system, double wishbone suspension, more ridged, lighter body frame, wider tires, more powerful engines, it is better on road. And considering only about 1% of people who buy expensive 4wd's take them offroad, whats the point?
actually it does count, euroncap counts it towards the overal adult safety score. who the hell are you to say it doesnt count? go read their testing protocol.
okay look, a fucking seatbelt reminder does not improve the actual physical test performance smart one. besides, if you want to be safer on the road and are a smart consumer, you will buckle up without any reminder

wish it was 5 stars from euroncap, there it only acheived 4*
alexkvaskov 4 years ago
it earned not only the safest car in its class no.. in the whole world tht iihs tested its written in bmw magazine
rustymizo 3 years ago
well, it is safe, but euroncap's crash test rating system is more strict - that's why it got a lower rating in europe.
alexkvaskov 3 years ago
It is 5 stars euroncap, after it was fitted with the seat belt reminder, which is standard in the USA.
landstrasse36 3 years ago
that doesn't count actually
the seat belt reminder does not improve the actual crash test performance, just gives extra points. doesn't count
