  • I do so much miss this generation of people. They're almost all dead now. The de Havilland sisters are both in their mid nineties! Thank God for films and records. That was my grandmother's time and she and I were very close. I love the culture from those days and she gave a running commentary as we listened and watched. We owe soooo very much to this generation and I love them all dearly and cherish all of the happy memories these clips bring up.

  • gasp, girls with love handles! excellent!! :D:D

  • I prefer the original Cole Porter version. But this is nice, too.

  • Very clever video editing to go with the lyrics, Good job!

  • Music like this is humans greatest achievement, in my own opinion

  • This song is not at all by Frank Sinatra even if it was he missed some lines. This was by Cole Porter the most genius man to grace the world

  • This is just pure genius. Frank's great but the video is awesome.

  • james Cagney is the best classic actor that is inspiring.

  • Ah, Wonderful! I almost covered my laptop with white wine from laughing!

  • well done!!!!

  • Would anyone know the name of the movie at 1:20

  • @yennyennYaar I would. ;) It's Wonder Bar (1934).

  • @yennyennYaar the name of the film is "Wonder Bar" from 1934, just before the Hayes office started censoring films. That clip is featured in the documentory "The Celluloid Closet". When the two guys go dancing off, Al Jolson quips, "Well, boys will be boys!"

  • Excellent song from frank

    Fantastic video

    Thanks Judie for sharing

  • Fantastiic song, stupendous singer, wonderful (and very cool) video. 5.5, of course. What can one say, words can't do it justice! Thanks for posting and thank to Kristin for sharing.

  • I really enjoyed this - great song, great clips - excellent! thanks for posting :)

  • these clips make me love america

  • This is the coolest thing I've seen on YouTube in quite a while. Very well done. I've been watching it on a loop for almost an hour.

  • @dangerfeild4Life Oh my goodness, thank you. You should probably find something better to do with your time though. ;)

  • @nicoley132 insomniacs do the darndest things

  • LOL - It's the Milk Song! Never knew it was quite so raunchy.

  • to my ears this is one of the best sinatra vocals i ever heard. phrasing is just perfection. he probably knocked it out in 1 take too after a heavy night.

  • LOL i loved the end

  • Marlene Dietrich and her famous legs in Der blaue Engel (Blue Angel).

  • <3 Fallout.

  • this is amazingly well cut:D good job!

  • "As long as they've got sidewalks, you've got a job." Wow! That insult would still be good today.

Who's the woman singing at about 1:14?

  • @OldieMusicMan Marlene Dietrich

  • This is a great clip. I would like to know what the name of the movie is at 1:20. I loved the smirk on the "Singers' (that's a guess) face when the two guys danced off together and 2:24 where the girls are "trying" to look graceful. LOL!

  • @CO1850 The film at 1:20 is called Wonder Bar. The dude making the face is Al Jolson. :)

  • whats the movie called with the cops firing and walking toward the men in the suits

  • @WhatFilmProduction The Beast of the City

  • nicoley132: awesome video!

    1. Is that Miriam Hopkins at 0:08 ? What movie is that?

    2. Also: what movie is the scene at 0:27 from?

    3. 1:37?

  • @Peacekeeper15 1. Yes, from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

    2. Red-Headed Woman

    3. Picture Snatcher

  • 2:33, isn't that Gary Cooper on the right =) ?

  • @girl43 Yep, that's the ending of Design for Living, also starring Miriam Hopkins and Fredric March.

  • @nicoley132

Oh cool, thank you, I'm going to check that out for sure!

  • @girl43 Ooh, you should -- that movie's really something. :)

  • i recommend frank sinatras blue moon

  • @xlincky both songs were in fallout

  • That's a lovely scene at around 1.08. Which film is it from?

  • @bythebluestofseas Female (1933)

  • Did not like Sinatras version at all,

  • cole porters version is 10x better, this one is like covered in syrup

  • Sinatra and his band do it the best; this song is true today

  • 1: 24 and 2:34 which film's these clips from?

  • @petitpois2007 1:24 -- Wonder Bar

    2:34 -- Design for Living

  • @nicoley132

Nicole, which Greta Garbo film is that clip at around 0.37 from?

  • @bythebluestofseas Queen Christina

  • @bythebluestofseas

Nicole, it would be great to see a list of all the names of the film clips. Would it be possible? Thanks

  • my school is doing this play!

  • I can hear why the composers weren´t to fond of Sinatra. Isn´t there a FredAstaire version?

  • Frank sinatra +5

  • "More went than would in subsequent years anyway..."

    What exactly does that mean?

  • Where do you got this line from ? I do not find it anywhere in this song.

  • Oh, that is not a lyric; it was in the YouTube comment section that came with the video.

    Sorry for the ambiguity.

  • @madamerotten don't get sesquipedalian on us., madam....'ambiguity'... the very idea! :-)

  • Please pardon my predilection for highfalutin terminology.

  • I lmao'd after the last clip! Great song! Great video! *****

  • @jgar6 I think all (or almost all) of these films are from the Pre-Code Era which is the beginning of sound (1927 or 1928) to 1934. PS this video is amazing and this song is or of my favorites sung by Frank. Not to mention one of the best by Cole Porter!

  • fantastic!

  • 1.23 lol damn funny. anyhow i love classics and this song is awesome. my music teacher played it and i loved it

  • hollywood today the films r a joke theyre not well made not a matter of filth ...... but there are a few exceptions : chicago , goodnight and goodluck, and a few others

  • OMG That lesbian kiss and man-man dance! WOW!

  • This is so delicious, I can hardly stand it. Great use of clips from 30s, 40s and 50s...and of course Frank......!!!

    What could be better!

  • Man I love 50s, goddamn how much I love them) thanks for video

  • Correct me if I'm wrong, but are'nt most of these films from the 30's and early 40's?

  • I will not do it) what I said-is just my opinion, and 30s-50s is that age, that I like the most

  • @jgar6

They were all from the Early 30's.

  • Very nice job man. Love the song and this a great video.

  • great clip compilation, wow!

  • four starrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrs

  • 5 stars!

  • Cole Porters version of this song is better I think

  • What a young Gable

  • That was Awesome. If you are not in the business, you should be. Fabulous editing!

  • what a collection...do you got all those movies?

  • Oh,FRankie

  • Got to love the guys face at 1:25 There were always people in history who pushed culture bounds and got away with it. Some people gloss over that.

  • Great video and an even greater song!

  • great song

  • Frank Sinatra is amazing

  • he didnt write this song though

  • conosciuta con fallout

    fantastica

  • wow video games

  • im glad i got fallout 3 it made me listen to old music and its better that modern music

  • I really did laugh out loud when I read that, but what ever gets culture and class into people...

  • Very well said.

  • great job!

  • Which film is playing at 1:36

  • And at 1:49? Thanks. :)

  • @ 1:36 -- Picture Snatcher

    @ 1:49 -- Baby Face

  • Fallout 3^^

  • Music is very nice. Video´s leitmotiv is disguised dote.

  • and 2:14?

  • Rain

  • whats 0:39-0:47 from?

  • The Beast of the City, The Public Enemy, Little Caesar, and Scarface

  • The score and the lyrics make the original better, but Sinatra's voice is golden.

  • Great music!

  • Frank singing?

  • Who else but the legend ;)

  • im only 13 and i love 30s, 40s 50, and 70s music

  • Yup,it peaked in the 30's 40's and 50's.

I think the rot had set in by the 70's though! Now it's just garbage.

  • I think some 80's music passes the muster though.

  • @BodyGarth95 What about 60s?

  • If you're watching this because you heard it in Fallout 3, you must reply to my post.

  • yes and i love this song...i like this version because i can learn the lyrics to sing along with the fallout version

  • I liked it since it is so irrelevant.

  • This isn't the same version as on Fallout 3. The one on Fallout 3 was the original sang by Cole Porter, who sounds a little more upbeat and silly. I must say, I love Sinatra, but Cole Porter's original is far more awesome, because the things he says are so funny if you understand the climate of society back then...and still kind of applicable to day.

  • so true!

  • Sinatra keeps reapeting himself.

    original lyrics are far better.

    I do like Sinatra's voice

  • ditto.. i've been listening to the different versions of this song since i played the game a month ago.

  • Seem we all have, I know know the game one almost by heart ^_^

  • WOOT!

  • I would of loved to have lived back in those days, People had so much Grace, self respect and respect for each other, And what do we have now? 2 girls 1 cup.... We suck

  • it won't be like this forever, you can do something about it!

Don't give up, as long as you have respect for yourself and others then these days live on.

  • They had their share of filth too! at least considered filth for the time.

Stop picking on today. They had their problems too.

  • I love this, hollywood had so much talent back then, now we only get maybe two good films a year if we're lucky!

  • You said it.

  • Perish hollywood, go elsewhere.

  • Looks like people had a blast back then to.

  • Excellent! Frank Sinatra singing Noel Coward lyrics with wonderful old movie clips! It doesn't get any better. The parting shot "As long as they have sidewalks you've got a job!" Priceless!

  • Correction - Cole Porter lyrics :)

  • thanks! :)

  • good vid but do you know where you can find the one with the girl singing instead of the man and it is fast??? Anyone???

  • Patti LuPone sings it. Search for "Patti LuPone Anything Goes" and you'll see her in a sailor suit.

  • Elaine Paige sings the new version, too. Here's a video where she forgets the text at the end. Search for "Anything Goes Elaine Paige" and you can see it. Ethel Merman sings also a faster version than this.

  • Nicely done! Well crafted!

  • Can anyone provide the run-down of the films in this video?

  • this is great. keep up the good work.

  • :-0

I have to admit, that last line legitimately shocked me. WOW

  • In my opinion, this is a good piece of art. Thank you.

  • Not bad. Not bad at all...

  • Thanks!

  • wheres the one from fallout 3

  • it's the one from Cole Porter

  • Who are the boys who go off dancing together?

  • The movie's Wonder Bar (1934), the guy in the background commenting's Al Jolson, but I have no idea who the two guys who go off dancing together are -- no one important to the overall plot.

  • Thank you! This is a great selection. I shall check out the Jolson film. We are now introducing our 12 year old daughter to as many classic black/white movies as we can. She particularly loves Astaire/Rogers.

  • That's fantastic -- I'm glad to hear you seem to be having some luck getting a twelve-year-old interested in the classics! She has great taste if she loves Fred & Ginger. :)

    Thanks!

  • Thank you. Yes we are proud of her. Girls Aloud are her favourites, but she is also completely familiar with music from the thirties to now. Hope to move away from Naples, Italy, next year and find her some tap classes in the States or Britain!

  • Great video! Where are the clips from?

  • Good vid! I really like this song [which is actually the case with most of Cole Poters songs :P] and the film fragments are well-chosen (:

  • great video lovely song.tx...
