  • Wtf was he doing with his hands...

  • i still fight like this

  • Brett was the perfect Holmes. They even left in his coke problem.

  • What's this "used to" you speak of?

  • awesome arbitrary rules.

  • How is it self-defense when he throws the first punch?

  • @FlashySenap If you look at the longer video here you'll see that he is hit first before taking off is coat.

  • @nakedmambo ah, okey

  • @FlashySenap This isn't the full clip. In the beginning, the other guy slaps Holmes across the face.

  • The audio's out of sync.

  • omg we rewound this in class over and over again hahaha

  • where is this clip from?

  • A straight left against a slogging ruffian. Weldunser!

  • Is it just me, or does the bad guy look like Mark Twain's evil twin minus the white suit?

  • This is so tight. His engarde stance looks so classy.

  • The sound effects of Sherlock's punches are not realistic at all! But that was how film was back then...

  • Love this scene from "the solitary cyclist" A classic moment

  • this fight was made for the cinama

ex sample a clever fighter would most likely hit with the same hand he just block not always the predicted oppsite hand and with the subect of punches, punches would not have been pulled before striking as that is telegraghing but we have to remember this was made for viewers to be able to catch every movement.

also remember pulling a punch does not add power it does telegragh it

a powerful punch is unseen and relaxed

I did like his foot work thou

  • Ruthmed silly muppet. Just because you copy illustrations doesn't mean you have the physical attributes to display the proper application of skill. Out of respect to boxings roots the fighters of old were more knowledgeable than given credit for. MMA albeit a new concept is only Martial Arts gone full circle.

  • Robert Downey Jr. would kick sherlock's ass!

  • ...wait, but that's how I fight! D:

  • Spinning hook.. That's a new kind of punch in boxing!

  • have you noticed, that when peter cushin is in a film he has a fight, every time!!! this is not peter but he too played sherlock

  • haha this is so funny

  • FAIL

  • This is a bad illustration of old style boxing. Mind you this is an actor, and he is not a master. Old style boxing was vicious and dirty by todays standards. In the later rounds they would use more standing grappling and throws, akin to what might be seen in an MMA match.

  • @schaelakhan : you are confusing amateur, gentleman's boxing with bareknuckle fights. Brett did his homework and this is based on illustrations of the period.

  • i'm cringing thats embarrasing

  • whoa im so blow away ,how he did that?

  • ... he looks... silly.

i liking the boxing fight in the new movie much better than this.

  • Might be, but this is a more accurate deciption on how would a proffesional boxer would fight during the 1890's

  • @JETemplar it really isnt

  • is this the same style that was used in the new movie?

  • in the recent movie these fight scenes are So dutty

  • The gentlemans art is similar to the gentle art (not so gentle)

  • its funny how he spins with a left hook on 0:47

  • Where could I learn the great footwork..........really unique. Is this french boxing.

  • its an old style kinda similar to the cake walk its kind of not advisable coz it throws off your balance when your legs cross

  • @gabbomushy

Is "the cake walk" similar to the moon walk? LOL

Sherlock is also good with a walking stick and barjitsu.

  • lol no sir...cake walk is a move in old school boxing and often used by 52 block practitioners its similar to capoeiras ginga...lool up UFC brandon vera vs. kristoff szosinski...look what brandon is doing peace!

  • Dear oh dear...

  • Jeremy Brett is fabulous in Sherlock Holmes character!

  • when I first saw Holmes segue into his boxing moves, the caption "Let's do this" popped into my head. splendid, Holmes!

  • Holmes: "Allow me to mop the floor with this cigar smoking ape who tried to rape my client"

  • 'The Solitary Cyclist' is my favourite Holmes ep, solely because of this scene!

  • Go Sherlock! Go!

  • 0:55-- some guy on the left gives a thumbs-up. XD

  • Never spotted that before... excellent

  • ROFL!!!

  • "A gentleman deals a blow with a straight LEFT!" Haha! Go Holmes!

  • It's so funny when they all start to clap(lol)

  • Holmes looks at them like, "Yes... I AM awesome."

  • WOW incredible!

  • haha, I always thought this scene was a bit silly---like the feet part where they're all like "OOooohh!" XD I mean I know they're my darling Jeremy's feet, but still...

I'm glad they had a boxing scene though--it's always lovely to be correct to the book.

  • esta cena adorei e fartei-me de rir! este homem é um espectaculo!

  • he is the old fashion boxer from durbundem
