In fact RTL and MOP originally sold rather poorly compared to their post 1991 (sound change) releases. So this "masterpieces" sell more theory is flawed. Besides the RIAA doesn't rate the QUALITY of music, it just records whosale units to retail outlets. BOTH bands have had great and not-so-great released. Metal fans should be able to enjoy both of them.

I really like Dave's voice. Its still the same after all those years. I dont know if its me but James singing after And Justice For All... he gives my a country feeling with his singing. That one of the reasons why i like Dave more

Hey Drhouse... I'm glad you brought up those albums. Megadeth definately went through a couple of transition periods. I think the first came with the release of RIP. It introduced a more organized and focused Megadeth. I think Youthanasia was more of a "blusey" album whereas Cryptic Writings and Risk were somewhat experimental. Fortunately Dave knows what works and what doesn't and came back to his trash/metal roots. Metallica on the other hand deviated from their norm and never come back.

Risk wasnt selling out. Risk was... a risk. Cryptic Writings was a project where Dave Mustaine combined Pop and Metal. it produced his first number one hit (Trust) so he thought that if he added more Pop it'd get better. So he took a risk and it backfired on him. He didnt sell out.

youthanasia and cryptic writings were megadeth versions of load and reload they were way better even risk was daves st anger at least that had melody to it as far as united abominations vs death magnetic goes ua has a thrash feel to it dm sounds like mix between justice and load and reload solos dave still can thrash old skool style and his voice hasnt changed dave rocks he should call his next cd DETH MUSTAINETICS just for fun metallica may be heavier but megadeth is faster Dave is Metal!!!!

Hey Drhouse... I'm glad you brought up those albums. Megadeth definately went through a couple of transition periods. I think the first came with the release of RIP. It introduced a more organized and focused Megadeth. I think Youthanasia was more of a "blusey" album whereas Cryptic Writings and Risk were somewhat experimental. Fortunately Dave knows what works and what doesn't and came back to his trash/metal roots. Metallica on the other hand deviated from their norm and never come back.

Since the black album Metallica kept getting worse. Megadeth had its downs as well (like risk) but in general they were better than Metallica and even superior to Metallica (cowntdown to extinction and youthanasia)

Risk wasnt selling out. Risk was... a risk. Cryptic Writings was a project where Dave Mustaine combined Pop and Metal. it produced his first number one hit (Trust) so he thought that if he added more Pop it'd get better. So he took a risk and it backfired on him. He didnt sell out.

Instead they showed their MUSICAL TALENT and expanded upon what was already awesome. They structured themselves, added harmonicas, even took out guitar solos... and they still rock.
They still kick major ass.
I love Metallica, every album is good in its own special way. Every album.

Both bands have always been awsome, but Metallica was always one step ahead of Megadeth up until like the late-90s then both bands recorded albums that werent so good. At least Megadeth had a good come-back. The System Has Failed and United Abominations were pretty good wheras St.Anger was a real disappointment. Like mustaine72 you did kind of choose the worst megadeth songs of each period so u cant really compare them.
