This is a valuable cultural and aesthetic artifact, for so many reasons, not the least of which is the opportunity to see Lugosi as the great dramatic actor he was. I understand that he was considered something on the order of "the Laurence Olivier of Hungary" as a theater actor before coming to Hollywood. (Kudos and a justifiable Oscar to Martin Landau for playing him that way in ED WOOD.)
Yes I suppose that poor Jessop was a bit crazy, but once again his character was driven mad by love (or the lack of it.) If anything can drive a person mad, that would be it!
And yes, he did look incredibly handsome in that suit.
Oh no he didn't kill Anna's husband! He killed a painter who claimed to know who killed the actress Sheila Fayne (not sure about the spelling there) Anna killed Sheila, Jessop killed the painter to protect Anna, so the police would not know that she was the killer.
Anna's husband was killed by Sheila. That is why Anna killed her.
Guesse I didn't understood everything that well. I didn't watched it that many times and I didn't see the film so...
Oh, so he killed the painter to protect anna!!! Oh, that's so sweet in a certain way. It's not the right way, but... Oh, I don't understand why she doesn't love that guy. He wanted to protect her and he wanted to do everything to make her happy!!!
hi again. :) i was trying to find the whole movie on youtube, but i can't seem to. :( maybe it was removed? would you know, please, where i might be able to watch it online? thank you. :)
heehee that's fun because at one point you see both Bela and Dwight in the background, and they both look like straight-faced, normal people - which is kinda odd after seeing Dracula : )
It was the butler all along....... lol XD

I can't believe Warner Oland was Swedish! Does anyone know to what extent his features were altered to make him look Oriental?

I never realised Bela Lugosi was so tall. and the mean looks he made are classic.

The only thing about these "Charlie Chan"movies that
is not true is..the fact that the character was played by
white actors.
Except for the first"CC"..a silent version of"House Without
A Key"..the part was played by an Asian actor.

This show was not racist, like some people say- the main hero was Asian, and he routinely outsmarted white villains.

Completely true, I never seen a problem with this series.

And he never discriminated against his driver, Birmingham. Treated him as equally as he did Tommy, #2 son.

Yes, that's true.
he seemed so distinguished, friendly and polite during the part I saw. You really wouldn't think at al that he killed Anna's husband.

Yes if you haven't seen the film it would be easy to think that Jessop killed Anna's husband, so the mistake was perfectly understandable:)
No, his actions weren't right, but he did want to protect her, which was sweet:)
