I cruised on both the Maripose and the Monterey each Christmas/New Years cruise from the late 1960's to the late 70's with my parents. This is when they both flew the flags of the Pacific Far East Lines and sported the Golden Bear on their funnels. I still have my Mariner Club pins and some memorabilia. What beautiful ships they were and what indelible memories they evoke. Thanks for posting.
This was the ship that to us to our new home in New Zealand in the early 70's. Her sister ship, the SS Monterey, brought us back to the US. Watching this video brought back many pleasant memories.....Thank you!!

I just don't like the cruise ships today. I sailed on these classic liners years ago and that was cruising. I can't even tell that I'm on a ship today unless I hang over the railing and look down at the water.
Those were the days. I sailed on this ship in 1969 as a kid

Now wouldn't that be the way to travel. I sure wish ships like the Mariposa make a comeback one day.
