it sucks how the only pleasant, environment friendly and efficient form of land transportation in sydney isnt included in the recent myzone fare project forcing commuters to pay a separate fare to ride the tram, expensive fares and lack of new routes are the biggest obstructions stopping sydneysiders from embracing this wonderous form of public transport, at least with the monorail its possible to get your money's worth by going around the loop three times instead of getting dumped at the end
@tangarbage Private ownership probably prevented inclusion in Myzone. Like the railway stations on the airport line, privately owned with publicly owned trains running through so you have to pay extra to get off the publicly owned train at the privately owned stations. The monorail might also get more business from locals if it went somewhere where anyone other than a tourist wants to go. It's not really commuter focused.
they should of kept the old trams what they didnt know was that Sydney was going to get so many bloody immigrants swarming in so now the traffic is very bad if they would of kept them people in Sydney would be able to get around easier instead of relying on trains buses and cars!
Why did Sydney get rid of ou trams :( we could've benifited by making a private tram system where people own their own tram-trins :(/ The problem is ], the idiot designers of Sydney didn't plan for the futer amd mow we have traffi problems...
Expansion to Ashfield,Watsons Bay or La Perouse...when...NEVER ! Labour will not support the extensions, cars are the dominant transportation in Sydney, now. Sad day in 1961 when the State government ripped up all the tram lines.
The tram lines are still in the road. Lines have recently been excevated in Glebe point road. Check out Trams in Sydney/Wikipedia in the remnants section
How soon will real trams be seen again in George St,Watsons Bay, Summer Hill or even Maroubra Beach ? probably never due to State government lack of enterprise and motivation. Very sad loss.
Good question. We had trams before we had cars so the roads were fairly quite back then, then there was a car revolution and the trams had to go. Check out the tram videos I have favoured on my home page
As an ex pat Sinneysider, I am amazed the system is so short. The previous trams went all across town, out to Chatswood,Ashfield, and Bondi beach,Bronte and La Perouse.Sad it is truncated now.
you are right. Every single section of the track including all the tarmacked sections near Paddys Markets is 100% light rail only. cars can only cross it not drive down it. So calling it a light rail is correct. i mean it even for the majority of the trip runs on old freight train tracks!
I didn't know they put the tram in Sidney again! I remained at the story they were taken off in 1957! I was in Mebourne in 2005 just to take pics to tram I could go to Sidney too!::::((((( Vinicio from Rome (Italy)
Lilyfield is last tram stop accessed from the highway. unlike Central Trams terminate and go backward instead of a loop well there used to be before the old platform closed
Sadly they call them trams but there not.

Do these trams have a signal when the doors close? Or is it like a traditional tram where the doors close with no warning?

no, I am only a tram fan:-)

There's a window at the front which takes up half the front, the driver sits on the right hand side of the tram.
