I think it's using tower of Babel imagery, but the chorus is quoting the Bible in St. Matthew 6:20 "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." the line "pull the fangs from out your heel" refers also to a passage of the Bible in Genesis 3:15- and refers to the bite of the devil against the peace of humanity and the triumph of the 'seed of the woman' that would crush that serpent's head- Jesus.
