87-83 at the half. That's a FINAL score in today's humdrum isolation one-on-one gimme the ball I'll shoot it with one sec on the shot clock NBA. Oh yea and the 2002 WCF game 6 was fixed.
What was it about the Denver Nuggets and NBA scoring records? In January 1984, they played a game against the Spurs in which the two teams set a record for combined points in an NBA regluation game with 318, as the Nuggets won 163-155. Then there was that legendary shootout against the Pistons a month earlier in which the Pistons won the NBA's highest-scoring game, 186-184 in 3OT. Then there's the record the Nuggets set in 1981-'82 by averaging 126 PPG for an entire season.
As a player or as a coach, because it can be argued that he belongs in both capacities. As a player, he was on six or seven championship teams, and along with John Havlicek, he was one of only two holdovers from the Russell-era championship teams that were also on the great Celtic teams in the mid-70s that won titles in 1974 and '76 and set a franchise record in 1973 with 68 wins, though that team lost to the Knicks in the playoffs.
@cjs3872 him and bill fitch have been voted as one of the top 10 greatest coaches in history. greg popavich also has the potential to be like them and get inducted
Which kind of backs up my statement about Don Nelson being a Hall of Famer as both a player and a coach. And let's not forget what he pulled off in 2007 against a vastly superior Dallas Mavericks team. But the one thing that goes against Nelson is that he's never even gotten a team to an NBA Finals, unlike Fitch, who won the title in 1981 with the Celtics and led the Houston Rockets to the Finals in 1986. And Popovich is the most sussessful modern NBA coach not named Phil Jackson.
Don Nelson's teams never play(ed) any defense. Whether it was the old school Warriors, or the Mavs with Nash, Nowitzki, Finley, etc or the new school Warriors with B Diddy, Richardson, Jackson, Pietrus, not much defense. I guess that's why the offense was so fun to watch from Nelson's teams!!
@davd1986 Don't forget about those Bucks teams from the 80's. They were a decent defensive team and of course were lead by Sidney Moncrief, who won the DPOY award two times (only guard who has done it). So Don Nelson's teams have played defense.
TR Dunn was known as a defensive specialists some how he never knew he was supposed to be guarding Chris Mullins. Or maybe he did and some how couldn't find him. Hey none of the men on either team on D stood a chance .
no one on either team was known for D except TR Dunn and he had to guard Mullins . Actually there were so many scorers on each team and they were both on fire no D could have stopped them. Tom Tolbert scored 16 or more OMG. I'm going to dial up KNBR radio just to ask him about that game
@LamarMatic I'm going to make it a point to call in . I didn't know Tolbert was apart of a history making game. I listen to his Radio spot on my commute home every week nite. Mullins was a recent guest he had great stories; told about Run TMC . He "had the most fun playing with that team". Talked about him and Bird shooting for big money at practice when they were on the Dream Team. The trick shot at ESPN campus wasn't a camera trick. Amazing.
What is this? Its like an exhibition game where the shotlclock was 8 seconds. They dont bring the ball up they immideteley throw it up midcourt, one pass and shout.
Denver played absolutely no defense whatsoever - in the preseason where the teams pretty much matched them shot for shot while at the same time played better defense, I believe it.
In the description it says "The high-scoring trio for Denver is Orlando Woolridge (37), Walter Davis (33) and Todd Lichti with 19, also combining for 99 points." But 37+33+19=89, idiot
they were trying to play D but look at the offensive talent on the floor. Run TMC wholly Mole each of them was a 30 point night on any night Orlando Woodridge could not be stopped when he wanted to score Dunn was no schlep Lichti if he got hot was amazing he could shoot but nobody could shoot like Mullins, Richmond could score every way the ball can be put through a hoop but Mo is a marks man shoot that ball better than anyone ever
Todd Lichti played over in Australia for a couple years in the Australia Pro Basketball comp (NBL) for the Perth Wildcats. He was recurited by his former stanford teamate Andrew Vlahov. Its good to see footage of Lichti in the NBA, shame about his injuries. Thanks for posting this :)
As a long suffering W's fan, this was awesome to watch again! Thanks! Always love watching Mully in his prime before those DAMN injuries started! Thanks again!
and only a week later they combined for 316 with the Suns allowing them to score 173 points :D
i love 90/91 Nuggets, they are the absolute BEST worst team in the history of NBA. To average 120 points per game and win only 20 games in the season is truly an amazing accomplishment.
Plus they gave us so many epic games that season, like this one or one against the Bulls.
I have 2 of their games that aren't on tube (vs Sonics and Rockets), i will most definitely make the highlights soon.
The warriors had good players coming off the bench. It wasn't just TMC. If they only had a couple good quality big men they could have been contenders.
damn 90's basketball is so freakin smooth and everything is finished with finesse, not like today where everyone can dunk it..
