@houdini69 Listen to it - it's a V12. Whether it's from the Testarossa or not, I can't say looking at this video, but it's not the original 355 v8 for damn sure.
ferrari used a 355 mule to test the enzo V12, i think the chassis was lengthened a little but not alot, it sold at their auction about a fews year back for about £80k !
dude every person with a pulse should know that testarossas are a waste of money they suck and a riced honda could beat them badly this car is a disrespect to a popular sports carb company
Dude.... are you fucking joking? If you know ANYTHING about cars, you'd know that the testarossa engine was one of the best engines Ferrari ever made, and it's very well known that it's an AMAZINGLY fast engine as well. A riced out honda???? PST... My Focus SVT smokes h22's all day and I've only got 200 hp. This Ferrari would eat anything YOU put against it all day long at a track.
GTR has no character it's just a bunch of computers and [literally] PlayStation stuff. Fail.
I drove one at an SAE meeting last year at the Nissan Testing Center in Arizona and although it was hugely impressive and undeniably fast as hell, I still don't want one. A Testarossa has hugely more character and soul than a computer on wheels and given the opportunity I'd take one over a GTR every time. Ferrari is passion.
@carguy12345678910 Nissan GTR is 2010 the Testarossa is 80's tech. Lets put a 1985 Skyline against a 1985 testarossa stock vs stock and lets see how badass your Nissan really is :)
@vfIskullangel That depends on the track. The '85 Skyline R30 or R31? The FJ20ET is only a 4-cylinder engine and it's 190hp.. The R31's RB20DET inline-6 is the same, unless it's the RB20DET-R. Even that's just 210hp.. On a short road course, it's quite possible for the Skyline to roast the Testarossa. There's no way the Testarossa would out-handle and out-perform the Skyline in that senario. ;)
@vfIskullangel The Testarossa doesn't begin to clear her throat until 4500rpm and peaks its 390 horses at 6300rpm, 500 below its redline. Even if you short shift, it won't pull in the next gear because it's below its peak torque range of 4500rpm. It's not a great car.. On a short road course, I wouldn't hesitate putting my money on the R31. I love Ferrari, but I'm not naive. The Testarossa is for doctors and lawyers, not drivers. It's not the F40 which are for both. ;)
@Archangel21416 The original 4.9L engine itself isn't a bad engine, but other parts relating to it aren't great. The serpentine belt system, oil pump and water pump weren't spectactular and the catalyric converters overheated, causing engine bay fires. The transmissions weren't that great either, with 2nd gear syncros wearing out on daily drivers.. and not to mention exploding differentials. So, without "fucking joking", why don't you get your head on. PS. Ford Fuckus SVT (aka POS) sucks. :P
its not a waste because american cars are shit round corners and don't look as good as european cars. even the gumpert is better looking than an srt4. lol
@carguy12345678910 Except at the end of the day your still not driving a Ferrari. And incase you haven't noticed, Testarossa's built in the 80's and early 90's... little more technology in an srt4. You are a Retard
@RiceKiller191 Actually a Testarossa would have lost to the Buick Grand National in a 1/4mile run stock to stock so GM obvously did something slightly better than Ferrari back in the 80's and early 90's.
@vfIskullangel Is it just me, or is it Ironic that the 2 Buick's which were made to outperform all other competition did (GSX stage III and GNX). Also that it was a Buick lol. God i would do horrible things to see a GNX in my garage.
@vfIskullangel depends how you look at it. from what i can tell ferrari cares way more about top speed, handling and overall performance than they do about which car could beat them in the 1/4 mile
@vfIskullangel Only the last, 1987 GNX.. And it wasn't even Buick - it was McLaren that made that possible by slapping on a Garrett T3 turbocharger with huge intercooler, performance torque converter, reprogrammed tranmission with oil cooler, dual exhaust, reprogrammed eeprom, and whatever else.. The GNX pulled 4.7 seconds out of the hole to 60mph and 13.5 quarter. The Testarossa still did a 13.5 quarter, but it was a V12 mated to a 5-speed manual, not v6 4-speed automatic. ;)
@vfIskullangel Wow, that's never been so wrong. There's a CRX's doing mid-to-high 7s in the quarter mile and the fastest stock Hayabusa, which looks like a turd on 2-wheels, pulls high 9s. There are lots and lots of Integras and Civics doing 9s and 10s and many Nissans and Toyotas doing 8s and 9s. Get your head out of your ass.
A testarossa engine does fit and its a flat 12 not a V. there are a number of cars on the Ferrari owners clubs forums that have done this. How did you cope with the heat shielding in the Mini? lol
theres no such thing as a "best engine." you just need the right engine for the right car. swapping engines could throw off weight distribution, and can lead to a slower car even if it may have more power.
But more power? 5hp is not worth an engine swap. Although there is probably a nice gain in torque...still not worth it but I don't know the whole story, perhaps the car was purchased with a bad engine and the owner happened to have a flat 12 laying around.

haha this guys been owned, how many people does it take to tell an idiot you cant fit a testarossa engine in a 355? 1, and his name is Metallicakicksbutt, good job, hahaha.
You want more horsepower in the 355? Easiest way is to go to KoenigSpecials in germany and let them twin-turbo charge it to 600hp.Iding Motor of Japan also tuned the engine to 440hp at 9500rpm.Novitec tuned 355s.Why put a 80's testarossa engine in a 355 of the late 90's?By the way, that engine sound is typically V8.I have a CD with Ferrari flat12 of 512S,312T4 and 312PB.They sound NOTHING like this.
This is BULL.There's NO WAY they could fit the flat12 of the testarossa in the bay of the 355.Besides why do it anyway. The V8 of the 355 made 380hp and revved to 8800rpm.The flat12 of the testarossa had only 390 at 6500rpm.Furthermore the gearbox of the flat12 was below the engine. In the 355 it's behind.Totally IMPOSSIBLE not to mention stupid.Ferrari themselves would bannish anybody who would do something so stupid.

would make it impossible to work on and heavy in the back,

I think the 355 engine sound's better than the flat 12 anyway,
Ok it's a flat 12 TR engine for bragging purposes only,

whats the point of putting an old heavy engine in a delicade and balanced car like the f355?

The Testarossa engine, being a Flat 12, is more balanced than the 355 V8, has a lower center of gravity, sounds better, and more horsepower.
AppleRobin 4 years ago 6
Sounds better? Maybe in the lower rev range...
But more power? 5hp is not worth an engine swap. Although there is probably a nice gain in torque...still not worth it but I don't know the whole story, perhaps the car was purchased with a bad engine and the owner happened to have a flat 12 laying around.
