@TrSYeTi well iv owned staggs sabians and zildjian cymbals so... also thats my opinion mate, if you want to fork out hundreds of quid on brands rather than quality be my guest
i too wouldn't mind knowing the settings you use on the drum dial. i have been looking for low tuned m birch videos on youtube for some time now and yours is simply the best.
WookieUlrich, Thank you so much for the post! I have the same (but in Orange) and have had thoughts of moving on to another kit because of tuning issues! I do love my bass drum because of the low end and the floor tom is just kind of ok. But if I can get the toms to sound like yours them I'm keeping my kit!! You said you use the Emporers? Does that mean batter and resonnent alike? Good playing in the video also!
@drummmnutt1 i have a 12 by 6 all Maple Pork Pie snare and cant seem to get a good sound outof it i have an emperop on the batter and the original Remo on reso. any recomandations on tuning or what heads to use?
Not that I'm a huge expert on tuning but snares are the easiest in my opinion. It depends on what you are looking to get sound wise? I like the remo or even's control dot heads. The even"s I have on one snare is the power center. I also have the remo dot on the bottom. One of these heads and lots of tension will get you the sound I prefer which is that low, loud rock snap! Remember equal tension batter and resonint heads.
drummmnutt1 , OMG! dont dare sell your Mapex kit! that is a fabulous kit! the most durable gig-able hardware available.
you just need some education I guess on tuning if you were thinking of a different kit because yours dont sound good. your among the best in the world today among production brands.
I discovered Mapex in 2001. I bought the Saturns. best quality & sound I have ever heard. I will never sell the kit! I fall in love with the sound every time I play 'em & they are 9 years old now!
I still have them mainly because of this video. I did get the emporors and the sound did improve! I think these drums are stubborn to tune however. I'm sure the Saturn's are easier to tune because they are higher quality. No worrys though the drums are staying with me.
Very nice solo! Lol I can see a lot of people wanting the info on how to tune your kit! haha (it sounds superb) Glad your using Stagg at the moment! Nice to hear such amazing cymbals put to more use than just studio work! Best Wishes
I tune my kit using a "DrumDial" an excellent tuning device. Can buy them for about £69 I think. To get more fat, low-end out of your 16", be sure to tune your 'top/batter' skin finger tight to begin with, then go round each lug and tighten just one full turn, until any rinkles in the skin are gone, then do the same with the 'bottom/resonant' skin, and you should be left with a nice boom/low-end tuning. Hope this helps!
very nice work.. are the skins new pro ones or are they the ones that came with the kit? if they came with the kit I'm even more impressed. great sound for such an affordable kit...
is that the original snare or a black panther? and recorded with all the proper mics or just 1 good quality overhead?
The skins were brand new REMO Emporer's, which I'd never tried before, but was very happy with fast response and 'open' tones, Though I may still opt for my 'Pinstripes',next time. Snare is 12"x7" Cherry Maple Black Panther. The kit was recorded with a full set of cheap but great quality drum mics, which were fed into a 16-track desk I think, and recorded onto a MD recorder, minimal EQ in post, just maybe a drum filter and volume adjusted. Thanks for the comment "SriDys", keep on ROCKIN'!
How do you like the Stagg's?

Hey massive0random, Im using a:
Remo Powersonic clear batter head, and Mapex Remo stock resonant head.
No damping required with these heads as they come with a snap-on dampening pad.

what heads do you have on your bass drum? and have you got anything inside it?

lol, thanks bro, and yeah fuckin' hell I didnt think 2, but then there's actually two pretty valid reasons/excuses why I didnt:
1) gettin' sued by Garth and havin' to give my 12 month pre-paid subscription to sports illustrated magazine to him.
2) It was fu**in' gone midnight and I was tired as a mutha fu**!, lol.
