The guitar solo is the definition of overplaying and not connecting with the song...just a platform for the noodling skills of an intellectual player. Milton is the greatest singer...too bad he's coupled with such someone who stomps all over the ballad instead of embracing it.
I was 19 when I was watching this and I didn't have a video tape ready to record this. I never knew the name of the song. So I thought I would never see this again. This performance was the first time I ever felt emotional to the point of tears over the music alone.
Pat's music will make you emotional, that's for sure. The song title, Vidro e Corte, is translated as Glass and Cut. Astore13579 has the CD version of the song uploaded here on YT. Check it out in the list of related videos to the right if you haven't already. Take Care!
@gmcummings Don't forget to mention this song is written by Milton Nascimento, so it's his music. Pat is a great musician and he fills this music with a lot of emotion, but don't comment like it's all Pat that makes this song genius.
@JoshFromBlaze many people feel those emotions when listening to Milton's compositions. It also helps that he invites the best musicians of the world: people like Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter. There is story about Miles Dives. Miles loved Milton so much, that he was jealous of Wayne because it was Wayne that discovered Milton first. Because of this, he never played together with Milton. Although he was really in love with Milton's music. People who know Miles, know that is BIG compliment.
I woul like to have this! i've a little clip, but is not this.. We can see is on ending the TV Program.. This tune has a little bit of Are you going with me?
hay que rescatar lo que mas se pueda, a muchos ni siquiera les importa que estas maravillas se pierdan en un rincon, x mas que haya millones en youtube, mucho mejor para todos!
awesome, i'd always wanted to see them together! just wish it was less 80's-ish, it really ain't my thing. oh well.. now i need to see a video of pat with toninho horta!
I really can't take the credit for this upload. It was posted before under another user's account, but I saved it to my PC. When the video disappeared (user's account no longer active), I just reposted it.
No it was not. I know this for sure, because another person already had put this video on you tube with the complete description. That person also put other videos of the same show. It was recorder in New York and presented by Herbie Hancock.
It was actually a show called "Showtime Coast to Coast" from the 80s. This performance was at SOBs in Manhattan. But all these years and I still don't know the name of the piece. It's beautiful. Haunting voice.
I believe this video is from "83. It was a television show about Milton Nascimento, presented by Herbie Hancock. He tells about Milton and how much of a fan he is. Herbie really likes Milton's music an vocal skills. There are about 5 video's from this live show. I remember someone had already put it on youtube but unfortunately his account got suspended because of copy rights violation.
I think so too. I saw one of those lovely posts and have never found it again. It showed a small stage, with Herbie, Pat, Milton, plus Michael Brecker crammed on it and doing one of Milton's songs. Great.
Milton Nascimento, Pat Metheny e Naná Vasconcelos. Deve ter sido um show e tanto!!!
