The funny thing is, Gordon brown lost the election due to a valence issue, his plans for the market are better than David Camerons. Cutting has never workd in the history of the world, so why try it?
Complete lack of Economic Knowledge. Labour & Brown under Blair started the 'live beyond your means' culture that lead to the recession. 12 Billion on an IT network that never went live- yeah great policies.
@superflylaurie Nah, I am just a historian and young politician. The Tory's only two days ago announced they would be "ring fencing" the banks to stop such things happening again. Oh, where was this started before? Labour, derp. Tory policies are so unsupported by history of economics it is so untrue, when America fell into the great depression it did NOT cut public spendingbut INCREASED it and look at them now. The Weimar Republic was in a WORSE situation and increased spendi-
@superflylaurie spending and by the end of 1939 they were one of the leading powers in the world. From being beaten into destruction and having all industry destroyed and then being one of the richest nations in the world? Clearly the tories are being clever here and ignoring history. This can be seen AGAIN in modern Germany where they are spending MORE in the public sector because guess what? Putting more in means you get more out of the sector, hence why Germany isstrongestinEU
You are the kind of idiot who is asking why we haven't jumped headlong into the imploding Eurozone crisis. I bet you still think we should have gone with the euro. You probably approved of G Brown selling off gold stocks as well. Or labour encouraging everyone to go to uni to reduce youth employment only for there to be no jobs when the poor suckers come out. Complete lack of taking the situation in context.
@superflylaurie There we go again, calling me an idiot and ignoring the facts of the past. I will just leave you to that view.Did I ever state I want to stay in europe? No, I did not. However in a modern world where everything is on the service industry, leaving now would be lile jumping off of a bridge. Also, please research up on those nations please ;) you might learn something about previous economic collapse.
Best voice literation ever. Quotes: "Batman" "Quite electric all-important Cinderella harassment by tonight" ofc it ends with "Voters would like to know."
A leading cause of poverty in this country is the unchecked expansion of the low paid service sector with no alternative routes or even opportunities to higher paid work. In order for us to get out of this recession, there needs to be a mandatory restructuring of the economy and diversification in the job market. The service industry works based on people having a disposable income to make use services. Considering that peoples incomes are squeezed tighter than ever before, change is MANDATORY!
yeah get over it. I was ilegible for EMA before they scraped it but didnt even bother getting it. £30 a week might as well be 20p in this recesion. Go and get a part time job.
@MrDeano324 its unfair that students should have to get jobs and study hard for their exams aswell, its just so harsh, i think a good deal of people agree with me aswell.
I manage just fine, as do half of my year. The thing is most students cant be bothered to do both. If you get a part time job thats say, 3 days a week. You still have bags of time to study and your raking in £100+ a week.
@doctorwhobw you think the government just pulls money out of thin air (god knows they think they do), no, it comes from somewhere, another way of saying "its unfair students should have to get jobs" is "its only fair that other people should provide for me, whether they like it or not", theres a thing called a culture of entitlement and im sorry to say that your part of it
@juan9one how is ema a wrong? at the end of the day loads of 17 year olds are gonna end up on jobs seekers allowance....by the way, why dont you all try having £100 pound to live on for a week, ema is needed. every little helps.
@doctorwhobw maybe if the government didnt squash half the business in this country to the ground with tax and competition killing regulations these kids would have some jobs to look forward to once they left school, or a part time job in school which would pay much more than ema for starters, aswell as causing the economy to grow
Absolute genius. John Culshaw's amazing. 'I'll tax you 50p in the pound like that!' Cool how he disses Vince 'the' Cable too, he had a beef with him ever since Cable called him out over the Stalin to Mr. Bean thing.
@samtheman8701 The pence per pound ratio is how much money the government takes from earnings of individuals or businesses. There was talk that to cover the deficit, the government would tax 50% of all earnings. So of every pound you earned, the Treasury would take 50 pence. It didn't happen, but now instead we have massive public service cuts and privatisations organised by the ruling party (Tories), who are funded by the people who caused the damn crisis in the first place!
@JackStaplesButler we HAVE a 50p tax rate now for people earning over £150,000. Im probally in the minority but i actually quite liked Brown with all his flaws.
yes you are in the minority, and obviously know shit about politics. How can you like that man, do you have any idea what he did to this country, let alone the world. He was the worst leader this country has seen for over 100 years. And this tosser Cameron isnt much better either.
@MrDeano324 I seem to know more than you if you think he ruined the world?! haha. When the banks crumbled he was the first to call for recapitalisation which averted a depression, he also wrote off africa's debt, history will be kind to brown.
Wrote of africas debt, yes, but at the expense of the British tax payers. You help other countries when you have the money yourselves, we dont. That was the problem with Brown, every other country and minority before his own people. The British should come first as its our country, other countries interests come after. He was renouned as a terrible leader, he wasnt fit to run a country, he wasnt even elected.
Now we are suffering under massive cuts because of labour and Browns epic fuck up. And dont even get me started on his imigration policy. Remember the woman he called a bigot when she asked about this subject?, great leader he was wasnt he?. Cameron did the right thing in abolishing multicultralism, now maybe the British interests will come before foreign minorites or more specifically muslim minorites interests. Labour are finished my friend.
@MrDeano324 Minorities do matter. Without them, the bigger powers wouldn't have even won the Second World War, they deserve respect. More foreigners fought in the war than English did, so you, as well as the whole of Britain should help them. And Muslims are targets for everything these days, there not a race mate, their a religion.
@MrDeano324 These cuts are far too severe, we had to make cuts but these are far too extreme. Nothing good can come from substantial cuts made in policing, education and the NHS as well as other things.
There was no need to lay off many fire fighters as well as reducing their wages, the 60% cut on the homeless funds is completely barbaric and I could list pages of things that shouldn't been cut.
A lot of people are going to suffer a lot more than you understand because of these cuts.
@MrDeano324 The big society is practically an excuse for sacking public sector workers - he thinks people will volunteer to do the jobs of those who've been sacked/are going to be over the next few years which clearly won't happen and it shows how out of touch he is.
The economy's shrunk and a double-dip recession looks increasingly likely. To get out of recession the economy has to grow, for the economy to grow there has to be an increase in demand, for there to be an increase in demand...
@MrDeano324 ... people have to spend lots and put money into the economy through things like income tax so more unemployment means less money is spent across the country, meaning demand is lower. Also the government somehow managed to increase inflation without economic growth.
And Gordon Brown didn't cause the recession, the recession was caused by a worldwide recession meaning we sold less exports etc and incompetent banks giving out ridiculous mortgages in their greed amongst other things.
This was brilliant, some of the best lyrics ever - "I'll tax you 50p in the pound like that". A masterpiece, if TV stays this good, I'll consider getting a TV licence.
whoever wrote this song is genius and deserves a Grammy!
