  • Wat if they sting like real jellyfish do or more

  • Bet Dr. Wily works for these guys,,,

  • what kind of music is this?

  • The central bit looks like the thingy in the TARDIS!!!

  • You jellin? I'm jellin :)

  • I can see good uses for those jelly fish. Equip them with some research camera, sensors etc. They could help gather informations on a lot of things.

  • @xanox02 One thing I think they would need to work around would be interactions with predatory marine life...what happens if something decides to try eating one of these? I'd imagine they would need to be designed to be either harmless to ingest or have some sort of deterrence mechanism.

As a broader environmental question, what happens to these when they break or run out of power?

If both can be satisfactorily answered, then I too see lots of great applications for these.

  • @WarriorIng64 Well, there must be some electrical discharge they could do in case of attack just strong enough to stun or something, offensives chemicals released in water then they are attacked to make predators think they aren't a good meal, plus if they dont emit any heat, they should not really be targets, for power they could go back to the surface and with a solar panel recharge from time to time, a system of localisation if they break to find them and emergency features to make them float

  • i want one

  • ok with all of those robotic animal i cant stop thinking of megamen the game...

just take those jelly fish , they look like creature in water level ....

  • @GHOSTTOYS These robotic animals actually remind me of the Badniks in the early Sonic games, myself (though maybe with no weapons attached).

  • why no laser guns ?

  • es un hermoso diseño

  • youtube.com/user/ARQUIVOFONSECA

  • wowwww..

  • imagine putting one of those into a public swimming pool...people gonna freak out :D

  • Squiddy just breached the hull! Activate the E.M.P...NOW!

  • I want one for my aquarium

  • Will it blend?

  • how te fuck do they flot thers no air blowing out of it nor theres string holding in up.

  • @saem901901 lol, how do you swim? Farting? Blowing water out of your mouth?

  • thats not the american inventors way though, we think about things and their application first and then only open our mouths and scream EUREKA

  • why am i thinking of penis pumps

  • I am so jelly right now.

  • how much are these things?!? i wantes 1

  • i'd call it a toy at best, obviously it uses hydrolics so it couldnt be submerged all that much before not working.

  • this would be a sick submarine lol

  • Imagine the Military advantages... just saying.

  • Robots will take over the world! Unless we manage to destroy earth even more first, which wouldnt surprise me!

  • lol u jelly?

  • does it have defensive capabilities like how real jellyfish have nematocysts? like if I try to touch or slap it under water, can it sting me?

  • "Science isn't about why, it's about why NOT?" -Cave Johnson

  • I dont think this is quite as majestic as the airjelly, but its still awesome

  • I hope through the creation of all these new pieces of technology we as people can see the flawlessness of the animals that inspired us. I feel like as a whole people don't value animals like they should. I hope these new technological creatures inspire us to love the animals we have and don't end up as their replacements.

  • Imagine swimming with one? scary as hell

  • just saying this is useless! next step snails yeah that rocks

  • @robayone It's not useless, even if it doesn't have a real-life application.

  • Now this is what we need to send to Europa.

  • THE ROBOTS ARE ALREADY TAKEING OVER XD

  • @GRAVEMIND344 I for one welcome our new mechanical overlords.

  • matrix, the machines xD this is how it started

  • That is brilliant! By the way did it charge itself at 1:02?

  • so instead of doin search against cancer they just do play with jellyfish?? awesome innit?

  • @robayone yeah it's awesome how demagogue you are

  • @Aranueth

yeah so what isnt it true?? who's paying for that?

  • @robayone Yeah, because people who make mechanical toys like these TOTALLY know enough about diseases and the human body to help find a cure for cancer. You might as well be the one to research a cure for cancer. Won't make a difference if they did.

  • @GayDessert It's sad that you're that devoid of imagination that you can't see how advances in engineering could have an impact on future applications in medicine. Engineers designed replacement hips and pacemakers, but they don't have the means to put them in someone's body. Organic chemists playing around with liquid crystals are responsible for the display you're looking at- even though the end application is executed by engineering and electronics. Science is a collaborative effort.

  • @BMGrid Sup. That comment was a month old, and I totally agree with everything you're saying, but my point was for the cancer portion of his little rant. But thanks anyway.

  • @robayone Yeah, a mechanical engineer and a programmer is totally going do medical research....

  • Check out the penguins, they are also super awesome. Festo is my new God.

  • i also forgot to metion i love anything that swims in water and this right there out beat allot i so want one now

  • i hope those scientest who made this know that when all the fish die they can't replace it with those machines... we cant eat metal o.O ~-Zap-~

  • qualle...

  • simplemente fantastico

  • das kam mal bei galileo glaub ich :D hammergeil das teil *-*

  • can it open a bottle of beer and pour it for me?

  • man those things can be great undersea servailance cameras (like we need anymore of em -_-)

  • i want to work for festo

  • Hi-tech moving art. So relaxing, and inspiring.

  • i like the hovering penguins, those are gonna be realy cool when walking into shops. imagine having a floating penguin introduce people at shops

  • yer i can imagene them used to advertise in futer and the air jelly fish would be be cool in an airport

  • Bionics. Cool.

  • @samafk:

Shouted the ignorant man to the World, as he stood on top of the highest peak of human technological achievement, a product of human curiosity and ingenuity.

Don't you see it? This is progress.

"It is a profound and necessary truth that the deep things in science are not found because they are useful; they are found because it was possible to find them."

  • What do you suppose the odds were that samafk was sitting in his couch eating potato chips when he chastised the scientists for wasting his time? Ha!

  • @thoughtwaretv May be progress, may be just another place to put weapons in

  • My thoughts exactly, the flying manta fish balloon - really only needs mounts for some 50 cal machine guns and the adaptive neural network will be able to compensate for the recoil, and stay aloft for days.

  • don´t give the army ideas! :D

we know they don´t have their own

  • its entertainmeant how is that not a purpose and it dose have a future in advertising

  • Okay they look cool, but is there any actual purpose to these machines?

  • HMMM to be honest im not sure. I dont know what the these could be used for in the private sector, but I suppose the military could use things like this seeing as the are trying to expand their robots.

  • Well then there's not much point advertising on YouTube. =P

  • Its purpose is to exist. The uses and meaning as well as the significance of its emergence could become apparent at a later date, but is not what matters and that is not why it was built. It was built because it could be built. It is a work of art, an expression of human ingenuity, a testament that we can overcome our limitations and that evolution continues beyond biology.

It could be used to explore the oceans, to discover new species, to bring forth a new Technological Cambrian Explosion.

  • I love your response to that user's question. I have nothing else to say, but I couldn't let myself continue on with my day without letting you know I appreciated reading it.

  • @penlore

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'd love for you to join us at Thoughtware (dot) TV.

  • I like your responce "It was built because it could be built". Damn, where did you get that phrase? Seems very original...

  • You could have just said it looks pretty O,o

  • @Arora13

I could've, but it seemed his question arised out of a lack of vision, so a simple answer somehow didn't seem like enough.

  • @thoughtwaretv very well said mate!

  • @thoughtwaretv That was beautiful : )!

  • @thoughtwaretv this is low-tech moving robot in a fancy costume. It has no purpose other than look pleasant to human eye.

  • @thoughtwaretv wanerfully formulated thought) i feel something common looking on Theo Jansen's creations. artificial life, whose purpouse just to stay "alive", as any other specious.

  • @thoughtwaretv this is one of the greatest comments I have read on youtube

  • Scientific adventure is rarely useless.

  • Do you shave? What actual purpose does it serve?

  • It makes me look good, and stops my enemies from grabbing my beard during a battle! Interesting strategy they're planning. =P
