Been listening after having seen vh1 special about and i remembered how much i loved hearing that voice so i ran out and looked for Tropico but came with 20best shots .put it in sat down at my drums and pressed play ,it was electric my hair was standing on end well Myron is really saying alot on the drums .harder than it sounds.the more you listen u realise its deep water your swimming in.
Listen up kids... from 2:58 to 3:46 that's a real honest to God guitar solo played beautifully with heart, soul, and lotsa practice....it's not something you hear a lot of these days on the radio.
Benatar had a monster drummer named Myron Grombacher who stood about 5'2 and weighed 140 pounds soaking wet but could shred a kit with the best of 'em.
neil was such a talent with TONS of taste and some great vibrato. i can't help but feel robbed with the band's departure into the poppy dung of the 80's. imagine the great stuff neil could have put out.
Absolutely one of her best and underrated songs. Great music; easily Neil's best solo, cheesy verses(and video) for my taste, but great hook....still a kick-ass song (not just kick-ass 80's song).
On her choice cuts DVD she and Neil were making fun of this video. Pat was talking about how gross the the pool was they didn't even clean it and she had to push that actor in it. Neil was talking about the young director trying to create a movie and talked about there was suppose to be belly dancers in the background with him doing the solo. He's like, "what happened to the belly dancers"; they were laughing their ass off at this video.
If u want to know if a person have idea about music ask the question Who is Pat Benatar? If answer is yes that would mean he knows what true rock music is.
@SuperOskar2000 We're the same age. She is still my fave; had her posters on my wall as a teen and even now I blast her music from my car; especially when sitting next to someone at the red light playing rap, hip hop, pop tart shit; then I really turn up the volume!
One great thing about pat is her husband has always stood by her side no matter what. Just goes to show when a couple get together they can do anything as long as they work at it as a team!
Pat never had to dress sleazy, oh no, once her eyes connect with yours, dude you are so done! She already would have your ass psyched out! Today she can still do that.
This is my all time favorite song by Pat Benatar. So beautiful and so talented. She was and is still a great singer and her band is awesome. Wicked guitar solo. The video is cool. You have to love the multiple Pats:).
This video is proof that videos do not have to make any sense whatsoever... what sounds/looks like rich people breaking up, mixed with a guitar solo by a shirtless guy in a turban...
The Rock -n- Roll H.O.F. is a joke, there are plenty of acts who should be in there and arent and plenty of acts that are in there that shouldnt be. Not being in the H.O.F. takes nothing away from Benetar, she is an icon no doubt!!!
Pat is great. Love the sound Neil put together for the solo, too. The video was cool back in the day and still doesnt look too cheesy 25 years later...
geraldo is the most underapreciated guitarist out there, every time i hear this it reminds me how great he is , and i guess pat isn't a slouch either! magical
Love Pat -- definitely believe the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame has overlooked her way too long (2011 nominees include LL Cool J, Donna Summer, and Bon Jovi -- really? R U Kidding Me?) Also thinks that Neil Giraldo also deserves a nod from the Rock & Roll HOF. Some of the best guitar licks of the past 30 years come from him!
@peartfaldo Neil has his own sound and is never mentioned in the same sentence with the great guitarists of all time. He should be. His solo from Promises in the Dark is also schorching.
Neil Giraldo along with Elliott Easton are, in my opinion, easily two of the most overlooked and underappreciated ax men in the modern rock age. This solo is Larry Carlton fantastic!
@tripleheshy I agree with you.We could never ever figure why this woman ws never deducted R n R Hall of fame its just purely politcal!.Her hubby and Elliot Easton are so underated.Thnk god Pat made it up in record sales. She very very rich! She deserves and worth every bit and more. Her voice is out of this world.Shes a trained opera singer.Shes our Brooklyn Homegirl.Born in Greenpoint Brooklyn lol Spike lee`s old neighborhood. We love Madonna ,but Pat should have been inducted long time ago
@kmhow Shout out to NYC!! Can't you hear some dipshit producer today saying "Would you like to use the auto tuner Mrs Benatar?" She would shoot him a look as if to say "Are you fucking serious!!!!" Natural talent thank you very much.
@tripleheshy Thank you lol shouting bck to ya.He`s a dipshit and the biggest asshole on the planet! I would love to tune his brain lol.PB along with Ronnie James Dio [RIP ] Mariah and a number of singers were classic trained singers from very young age thats hard to do They have a God giving gift .These ppl can project over w/o music stadium filed 60,000 ppl or more not too many singers can do that .Its angers us How Pat Benetar keeps being overlooked.I love Chrissy hynde shes been inducted
@tripleheshy She should have long recieved it before alot of other `8`0`s singers ."Don`t get me wrong" lol I love Chrissy I ws into The Pretenders when I ws young teen and tween lol .My early 80`s childood. There was another underrated group Quarterflash. The lead singer did her own sax solo. Her voice was outstanding! So mny ppl are overlooked
This is why the Hall of Fame is just a comercial sham. Benetar should be in and should have been in there a long time ago. ABBA? Give me a break, if anything they were pop and only lasted a few years. Pat & Neil have been touring what seems like forever. Screw the Hall!
The Singing and Music(Guitar Tracks) are Absolutely Gourgeous Sounding, the SOLO is Sick!! And Pat Is A Pretty Petite Rock Chick< How Cool NICE CUSTOM B.C. Rich Bich Guitar!
I have been looking for this video for a hundred million years, yet always forget when I'm online to look it up. heh heh. It's just as cool as I remember it and I'm not a Pat fan per se. All I could think of were the scenes of her on the swing and something about wasted time. THANK YOU for having it on here...finally!
I agree with MRGXX64 that Pat Benatar should have been in the Rock N Roll of Fame before Madonna!! She is an awesome icon for Rock for such a long time!! My oldest sister loved Pat and introduced me to her music....we used to listen to Pat and rock out together!! I like Madonna too but Pat goes way back!! I got to see Pat Benatar twice, once in San Angelo, TX where I grew up and once in Addison, TX for the Taste of Addison!! She ROCKED!!
There was a TIME when guitar players played SOLO's on pop radio that had tone, substance and a musical line. Of course, that time has passed. Neil was one of those guitar players.
All these people commenting on her teeth. Who cares? All I care about is the voice. That's what's wrong with the music business now. All people care about is the image. This generation sucks!
Oh come on! this woman rocked! Sexy, without wearing any slutty clothes! sexier than any of these today wannabees ever hope to be. the 80's ruled, hands down! You couldn't even hope to make anything like this today!
I HATED this song when the album first came out, but after hearing it a few times and seeing the video, it became one of my favorites. Saw her couple of years ago. She still rocks!
Great post, clear audio and video. This is when Pat still had a hard rock edge to her music.First three albums are the best. The original band was the best too. You're right bguy75 very tasty lead work by Neal.Very underrated guitarist.
@sunsungoaway, I think this may have something to do with the fact that she'd been introduced as a solo artist. Pat always says that in her mind, her husband Neil Giraldo should have gotten equal billing because he was so invested in the creative process. So I'm not sure she'd be interested in that. THis said - she needs to be in there !
@Cicilo1983 Agreed. He wrote the music to most of the sons and is one of the better guitarists to come out of the 80s (criminally underrated). I'm not even much of a fan of Pat Benatar but Neil's songwriting and solos were top notch. Very creative player and producer. I think that the whole husband/wife thing allowed him to take more of a backseat than if he were just a writer and band-mate.
Lightweight Pat was scared right at the beginning when she drove in the car and had to figuratively stand on the brakes to stop the car from hitting the house, so she says!
Well, im pushing the issue that Pat should be in there. And ever since Madonna got in. Ive been pretty angry about it. Since when is Madonna Rock N Roll ?? LOL Right ?
Agreed, awesome pipes and Neil's playing is so Tasty! I have always loved his composition and soloing. I love alot of your guitar god types like Eddie, George Lynch, Reb Beach, etc but Neil's playing is cool too, just different styles.
Early 80s, trying to feather my hair just right, trying to get the top score of Frogger at the arcade, tight levi cords, gas a buck a gallon and I still have no money in my pocket! this song playing in the background of it all
Ah, man the songs of songs the guitar solo is mean man just mean! Thank to the chic in Frisco who put me on to this and give me a good time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

Working on it, but these things take time. Pat, if Neil ever gets hit by a truck or has an amp fall on him, gimme a call. Geez, what a hot chick!!!

Agreed, awesome pipes and Neil's playing is so Tasty! I have always loved his composition and soloing. I love alot of your guitar god types like Eddie, George Lynch, Reb Beach, etc but Neil's playing is cool too, just different styles.

@MRGXX64 Absolutely right! Pat is my favorite female rock vocalist of all time.
