Actually depending on the gerbil, they can make there own sleeping habits. Some like to sleep all night, and others like to take just naps throughout the day and night...

Gerbils don't seem to be nocturnal, they are active for short periods during the day. Good thig is that unlike syrians they don't get grumpy if you wake them.
