@scottydu81 I agree. I bought the game recently and I found it to be very enjoyable. Nice graphics, nice sound and gameplay. If there's anything complicated I'll look in the manual, no big deal.
@AIDSTheOrgazoid if you found the 5 million copies, you would make about 5.6mill as, 1, they were cemented so will need work to fix, 2, the system is rare and valued as vintage, and lastly, they are not valued alot, around $1.20 at MAX.
@LoboFan1000 no. no you are not. i've played it in real life, way back when i was either 6 or 7. of course, i played better atari games like adventure and pitfall. i loved 'em. course, now the atari is long gone and i have no idea where the remains are. i am 12, and i had a great childhood. still do. shockingly, this game and friday the 13th for the NES scared me back then...
So to beat the game, you have to jump into a bunch of holes in the ground to find random junk, then fly out, then eat a bunch of detectives to summon tardis and fly away to a house where a kid keeps walking around in circles? I don't remember the movie being like that.
@soopakoopavids it was an atari game based on the ET movie. in teh movie, ET had to phone home to get his spaceship to come get him while avoiding government agents and scientists, and in teh game, you collect pieces of the phone so you can phone home and have your spaceship come and get you while avoiding government agents and scientists. i think it was pretty spot on, if you ask me. there have been worse movie games, like the atari game based on the Aliens movie (it was a pacman clone).
I read about this game on wikipedia.Atari created a million copies, thinking it'd sell extremely well, and they ended up burying the left over copies in a landfill in Mexico.
This was one of the 2 games that fueled the Video Game Crash of 1983,along with the Atari 2600's version of Pacman.
Even with the returns and the landfill dumping, there were still over a million in circulation. Any Atari fan that wants one can find them cheap. No more than $3 to $5 on Ebay, most of those postage included. Fully-boxed unopened versions would be uncommon and fetch a few more dollars than that. I buy and sell video games as a hobby and once owned my own shop. You need to check Ebay before you act like you know what you are talking about.
The thing most people don't realise is you can prevent your self falling if you press 'action' the moment you start falling and you can then gently lower yourself down to get the phone piece (or any bonus points) but of course falling is better for speed.
I remember playing this game as a kid. I must say, I do NOT think this is one of the worst games of all time. It deserves no awards, believe that, but I have seen far, far worse. A lot of people who use the whole "E.T. is the worse game ever line" in the gaming media have not even played it. And if they have, they unfairly compare it to better technology. Anyway, that's my two cents and I would like to think I am qualified having grown up on this game.
@MrWaddeBarret My opinions are just that, opinions. However, I would have to say games such as Magmax, Star Voyager, Ten Yard Fight, Indiana Jones in terms of gameplay. Then you have games that are so hard they are broken like Dragon Lair for the NES. These are just some of the titles that played far worse than E.T. Again, I lived in that era, played it, and it is very comparable to other Atari games at the time. Have any kid play an Atari game now and they will say it is the worst game ever.
@xXxThr33xXx I agree. I was like 10 or so when I played it. I liked it. And people can't compare it with the stuff that's out today due to the difference in technology. You said it well! Thanks.
@xXxThr33xXx Thank you. Good to see someone else here who actually played the game when it was first released. As you said, nothing to write home about, but definitely not the worst game of all time. I liked it because it was fun and I could sit down and beat it pretty quickly (once I got the hang of it).
@Qwertacious are you actually saying that on an ET video? Please look up the video game crash of the 80's and look and see what horrible games like this one almost did to the entire industry back then. Consider yourself lucky to be from that generation.
@evangelism2 Considering you can't be any older than 18, it's hard for me to understand how someone who wasn't even around for the industries crash can attempt to school me on it. I know very well the events which took place during the crash, and my comment wasn't based upon it or this game. It was based purely on the fact that I missed out on some of the most nostalgic memories of early video games. Oh and by the way, you're "Dancing Ballshot" video is a great representation of you age.
@Qwertacious You make a comment about "good old days" of video games on a video of what is considered the worst video game of all time, don't you think that it a little stupid? Then you insult me calling me a child when I did nothing but respond to your comment, not hatefully or insultingly, just a response. And your comment on missing out on the nostalgic memories? The video games don't make the memories, you do, it doesn't matter if your first game what Pitfall for the Atari 2600...(con'td)
@evangelism2 On a continued note, my initial comment had nothing to do with this game, or the good old days; just the fact that I had been around during that time. You were the one to infer that my comment was based upon one of the worst games ever made.I do agree that nostalgic memories don't come from the game, however they are developed over time, of which I haven't had the opportunity to lapse which is what my initial comment stated.Just as well, I haven't even implied your level of maturity.
@Qwertacious or Halo for Xbox, when you get a little older you will look back on those games with fond memories, like I look back on my NES or Genesis. Oh yeah and on my video, glad you took the time to go through my channel to try and defame me, if you can't appreciate a bit of goofing off, that's your problem not mine, try to get out more instead of insulting people on youtube.
@evangelism2 I don't think you could comprehend the hypocrisy you create by telling me I should stop online insults while this entire conversation sprouted from your insult on my gaming knowledge. My reference to your video wasn't intended to defame your interactions with a bowling ball, but rather to back up my statement of your age.Which brings me back to my initial problem which you've so elegantly deflected; How you find it you're position to condescend me on a topic you have no experience in.
@Qwertacious I am done after this. You insult me, then deny that you did. Calling me underage, and then saying I am immature because of a video posted 3 years ago is insulting (btw you have some classy vid's yourself). Then you say I insulted you when anyone with half a brain could tell I was just questioning your original statement. If you think rational debate = insulting then you fit in with the 90% of youtube who would agree. But I am not going to waste anymore of my time here.
@Qwertacious I grew up on NES and SNES. Lots of good memories. Honestly though, getting the N64 (with my own money, saved up for 6 months!) is probably my fondest gaming memory. Jumping from side scrollers to a 3D environment was mind-blowing at the time. Games like Super Mario 64 and Zelda Ocarnia of Time will forever be burned into my brain.
Best game ever obviously much better than call of duty and gta and I'm talking shit this game isn't just bad it's really bad it's fucking horse shit vomit coming out of a goats dick with a baby on to sniffing cocane from it's penis
@protoCHUCKz yeah the magnavox odyssey is the best system ever the seventh generation of gaming is bullshit we want 1st generation back when all that was is 2 dots that move on a screen! its much better!
@SandwidgeVids ET's UFO dropped him off in the forest, he fell in some holes and found the phone pieces and went back to the forest to call his UFO and he won and elliot was walking around his house as the end cutscene and the guy in the trench coat was a badguy, I commend the player on his mad skill at avoiding. the grfx wer amazing in 82
How come the FBI agent isn't getting ET at the end, was that a glitch in the system? I don't care if this was a stupid, boring game, I liked to see this as I was only 13 when this came out and I loved playing it.
He was off the screen when the timer finished so the spaceship arrived. If he had been on the screen when the timer finished the spaceship would not show up,
@konqitdragon did you ever see irategamer's review of this game? if not, watch it. it's funny. after seeing it, please come back on here and tell me what you thought.
@gir42399 I am a woman by the way. It wasn't that bad of a video game and you can't compare it to the stuff that's out now as the technology is completely different. I really only played two video games, this one and Frogger. I don't currently play any of the new stuff. Not my scene.
@HyugaStone87 Yep in a desert in New Mexico during "The Video Game Crash of 1983." They (Atari) buried 5 million unsold cartridges of ET: The Extraterresstrial for the Atari 2600.
Atari would never trash the E.T. cartridges. Instead, they would do what Nintendo did to the RadarScope arcades and left-over Mario Paint boxes: recycle for later use. I liked the E.T. game. I spent several hours playing it, and beat it several times
.
I still consider it one of the better puzzle games (for Atari). It was written by the same guy who created the excellent Adventure, Superman, and Raiders games
@cgsmitherine3 I liked the E.T. game. I spent several hours playing it, and beat it several times

"Wow this game pwns so much it's ending is shitloads better than Halo,LittleBigPlanet,Mw2,GTA4 ect. I LOVE THIS GAME!!!," Said the creator who made this crappy game :/
What is that one sprite running around the house for? Is he happy to see ET going home? Is he looking for a set of keys he dropped? Is he just panicking because he can't believe someone actually beat the game, and he doesn't know how to give a decent ending!? I DON'T KNOW!!!
Well Done Your Good At The Worst Game Atari Ever Made :L
Wait What Am I Saying you Good At The WORST GAME EVER MADE IN HISTORY xD, Russian Roulette is more worth it, even though after playing that game I Did Feel Like Shooting Myself! xD
-sigh- too bad atari became good at making games when the driver series came along :(
So... ET only came down to Earth, just to call the mothership that just dropped him off? Then, when the ship comes back down and picks him up, he's suddenly at Elliots house. Real smart ET.

I liked the E.T. game. I spent several hours playing it, and beat it several times
.
I still consider it one of the better puzzle games (for Atari). It was written by the same guy who created the excellent Adventure, Superman, and Raiders games

What is that one sprite running around the house for? Is he happy to see ET going home? Is he looking for a set of keys he dropped? Is he just panicking because he can't believe someone actually beat the game, and he doesn't know how to give a decent ending!? I DON'T KNOW!!!

Movie-based video games are well-known for being really shitty... Even if the movie was amazing, their video game versions are crap.
So imagine the video game that is based on a shitty movie. It results into Atari ET.

Wait What Am I Saying you Good At The WORST GAME EVER MADE IN HISTORY xD, Russian Roulette is more worth it, even though after playing that game I Did Feel Like Shooting Myself! xD
-sigh- too bad atari became good at making games when the driver series came along :(
xD

So... ET only came down to Earth, just to call the mothership that just dropped him off? Then, when the ship comes back down and picks him up, he's suddenly at Elliots house. Real smart ET.
Still, nice TAS.
