  • Is there no high definition version of it???

  • this is exactly how i picture it from the book

  • The only thing I don't get is how come we never learn about totalitarianism and genocide in other countries. Why aren't people making movies about the USSR and the Holodomor? You'd think Germany was the only place this ever happened.

  • In fact, many Germans are ashamed of the Nazis, and distance themselves from them, which is good, as what they stood for was horrible. :(

  • @LaDracul youre right there i for one am a german and i have lived in ireland for several years. The thing is that if your a german in another country everybody seems to dislike you for beeing a german. I my self often punched people for trying to herass me about beeing proud to be a german. i am proud to be a german but doesent make me a nazi or a an antichristan or whatever else

  • @447cian I know people can be so very ignorant! Like everybody seems to think all Americans are like Homer Simpson or George Bush!

  • The nazi party is cool haha

  • I have no idea of how this crap is gonna help me do my exams......... god dammit i hate school

  • Wow! I didn't know there is this original version.

  • Its ironically he's asking the black about the camps, like "Who died in the death camp" "Er...Mister Ross, my kind..." O_o Wish that conversion wasnt so bright but thanks for uploading.

  • I think the reason why most people think the German version is better is because it was filmed in 2008 and therefore is adjusted to the 21 century this was filmed almost three decades ago

  • @Samo762

what about actors? or the plot? There are much more reasons to rate different versions?

  • @SKATERBOY96ify Yeah, youre right, I should've said the "main reason"...

  • im from germany and this war were so.

  • I become happy everytime somebody says exterminate! :D (Only a small group of people knows what I'm talking about...)

  • @sight0 .....you a dalek?

  • @guystewpot ...maybe a little bit. (Switched accounts)

  • JEWISH PROPAGANDA !!!

  • THIS MOVIE IS JEWISH PROPAGANDA IDIOTS !!! JUST LOOK WHO OWNS ALL THE MEDIA AND YOU WILL UNDERSTAND !!!

  • @dragoste747 YOU ONLY WRITE IN CAPS. IS IT BECAUSE YOU WANT ATTENTION? I DON'T UNDERSTAND

  • That teacher is a total pedo.

  • I think the German version of 2008 is much more impressive, because in the end one of the student dies. It's really shocking.

  • It blows my mind that sht like this still happens. Just recently I had an altercation with a classmate who said she'd be fine if the holocaust happened again so long as she wasn't targeted.

  • i just finished watching the new german one and i had to read this book for class....and we will be watching this movie in april.....the german one was way better then the book but something in the real verison is good

  • Thanks for the upload!

  • Ive seen this in L.A.

  • I think the new version is way better than the old one.

Not because it's brand new movie but because it shows teenagers' mentality and how easily someone can be manipulated or excluded from a community..

I also like the end of the movie even if it's dramatic because in my point of view something like this could happen if the circumstances were given.

  • the new one is way better.

  • the germans didn't know much about the holocaust. Only labourcamps were set in germany and the concentrations camps were outside of the reich. the SS's leadership knew sth about it and of course Hitler. But the main part of germans didn't know anything.

  • @ImbaNaga but there were rumours. that´s why jews were hiding. i mean..people noticed that something was going on there, they probably just didn´t want to believe that it´s something this cruel. (maybe)

  • @Lilithly It's the same situationwe're having now in germany. But now the germans are hiding because their politicans still believe in the multicultural system. But 80% of all criminals under the age of 18 in Berlin are arabic immigrants. Islam doesn't go hand in hand with democracy!

  • @ImbaNaga did u know that tureky is the most democratic islamic country? u are one of these people with prejudices against immigrants. i mean...most of the immigrants are living in berlin, and it´s a town (i don´t like big towns...) ..so of course there´s trouble. but there are also lots of nice immigrants, your prejudices make them outcasts, so they will behave how outcasts have to.

  • @Lilithly I don't have prejudices coz some of my friends are immigrants. But stastics show that arabic immigrants are more willing to use violence than any others. It seems like you are one of those who don't see the danger. And you don't live in germany so how can you say for yourself that you know the situation in germany? Open your eyes and look on the facts and don't believe everything the media told you!

  • @ImbaNaga uummm..i don´t live in germany?? wow, even i didn´t know that.

i´m in fact absolutely german and proud to have prussian ancestors:)

i think that cruel turkish people are just as dangerous as cruel germans. i keep away from both of them:)

  • @Lilithly But you didn't know the fact that you, as a non-violent, can't go outside with your girlfriend without getting in trouble with cruel turks.

  • @ImbaNaga being a non-violent GIRL i can go outside like everyother person without getting into trouble with anyone. i´ve never been in trouble with immigrants for my whole life (which is 20 years), so ...um i think U are one of those people who make trouble and then blame others.

  • @Lilithly Haha im 100% a non-violent person. And as i said, YOU don't live here and only because of this case you can't judge about the situation. I'd prefer to live in your way too

  • @ImbaNaga um sry, as i said..i LIVE there.

for 20 years already. who´d have thought?

  • @Lilithly And where?

  • @ImbaNaga ...mecklenburg-vorpommern. hope you don´t want my adress cause i wont tell u -.-

  • @Lilithly Why don't you speak german than? And by the way, do you know that in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are many Nazis? Most Nazis live in eastern germany :D ofc there are less muslims than in the west. I didn't say that all muslims are the same but they have parallel societies in my hometown and those societies are racist. That's why i think the way I do!

  • @ImbaNaga uhm....how do u know i don´t speak german?? i´m german, so of course i speak german, that´s just normal, isn´t it? and no, i don´t know a single nazi, i´m sorry, we don´t have as many here as u think. and it´d be absolutely strange if there were more nazis here then in the rest of germany, cause we were once all communists here...(i´m not,and i´m also not a nazi....) and u think in strange ways....why don´t u speak german?

  • I'm german (sorry for my worse englisch) and I only knew the german version and I think the german version is much better than the older american one.

  • sorry but the german version is much better

    the acters are better too:D

    marco is really cute

  • The actors are better! Hahaha, no comparisson!

This actors are so bad, they make the german version look like a masterpiece!

Oh wait.. It IS a masterpiece... except for the dumb, overdramatic ending. We all can forgive that ; )

  • I liked the german version, maybe a bit exaggerated yeah, but it gets the point across.

  • "Who died in the death camp?"

every group died, such bull shit only jews, gyspies and homos.

  • Yeah sure there where also many other groups including even many Catholics and protestants and priests from other religions who refused to put Hitler before God.

Some people claim that Hitler claimed to be christian... maybe he did indeed claim that... But even if the devil himself came to the earth he might even claim that, right?

He might have claimed to be christian - but he demanded people to put himself before God.

  • @snoopyflick

and not to forget those who tried to stop hitler and his regime. also communists, political emenies, physically and metally disabled...

  • @snoopyflick Yeah Snoopy more did, but those are the most common that died, It's not like you'd name over like 20 different kinds of Religions and waste time in class.

  • what is it about?.... what is the mocie about? i want to see it!! :D

  • i meant graffity not gravity XD

  • the german version is better because they take it much more seriously

  • how are they taking it much more seriously in the German movie?

I give you that the love story didn't exist. But other than that this movie is closer to the truth than the German one.

Also the main problem that i have with the German one is that it has been so heavily altered for entertainment purposes that the moral message that was originally intended by the teacher is no longer present in the German version.

  • For your question they take it much more serious with the gravity, the fight at the polo match and the shooting and then tim commits suicide.

To answer your point i know this one which is set in california is real, i've read the book and i didnt say think about the german one being more realistic so basically your point dont mean shit.

So in my oponion i find the German version better for entertainment.

For one more point they would take it much more serious because :-

    Germany were Nazis

  • About this whole discussion:

The german version is GREAT, fantastic... But I would rather see the history like it really happened.

My only problem with this version, so far, it´s the really poor acting (horrible, in fact), and the soundtrack, and other technical aspects.

If this was made by the same crew that made the german version (with english-speaking actors, of course), it would be great.

Oh well... read the book or see this? Ok, I´m seeing it... Herr Wenger : D

  • @Supenmanu From what I saw the exact meaning was there!

  • @Supenmanu Thing is, I personally can't watch this until the end to see the moral message. Could you tell us?

  • @Supenmanu Thing is, I personally can't watch this until the end to see the moral message. Could you tell us?

  • @LukeH2oo9 The German version is so much better as it is real. In a way the German version is actually ridiculing the criticism of banks and globalism, and fortifies that the established government is reliable and true, something that in the end is there to support you.

We have to think further to get the point, but are those who watches it taking the effort to do so ? I doubt it.

  • The prof. is the senator from the X MEN movies right?

  • the german version is much better!

  • is this any thing like the book i have to do a report on it and i dont wanna read it and the new movie comes out in like september 18

  • the book is amazing and it's pretty short, i read it in like two hours

  • why does it matter if they were jewish or not?

  • german version is better,

  • bad bad qualitiy ,

  • I'm german and when we watched those holocaust, concentration camp movies in school it was even harder to understand how something this cruel and barbarain could have happened here... it made me wanna cry and vomit at the same time !

  • In dunnot know what you learnt at school, but in my (german) school it is part of the political education to know everything about totalitarian stateforms and the way they use violence. So our curriculum is to learn us even the way Mao killed million of people.I think I can remember, they were no Jews.

So I resume your comment is (sorry) real bullshit!

  • I think the german version is better! why is it violent? the only violent is at the end where he kills himself!?

  • I think the German version is better, too, but this one is the original one which is almost exactly like the book.

  • boohoo ...whining hebs

  • The last time I watched this was in my 10th-grade summer school history class

  • this movie is true!

  • Sorry Supenmanu, but I disagree with you. You can't compare a movie from the 80's to a movie from last year. Maybe the latest version from Germany is a bit different and contains violence, but when you watch then movie than you understand the meaning of the changes.

  • Sauerkraut is lecker mmmhhhhh!!!

  • Yo,

Do you have a link for the newer

    version?(:

    I wanted to watch both,

    because i skipped school today,

but our english class was watching it,

    and it just feels weird

    to miss it....

    ig...yea

  • this is not the real experience bcoz there's no video , no proof , every one knows it

  • Newer version is better...

  • I agree.

  • I'm German and I promise you, I dont know ONE person which thinks racism things. really.

  • And why NPD has so many votes?

  • NPD get votes like 2-6%. With other radical groups like "DVU" and "Die Linke" there are 15 - 20% radical idiots in Germany. I think, this is unfortunately quite normal in europe and oversea, too. Maybe the name of the parties are different and if you call them "racists","radicals" or whatever, but an idiot is an idiot - in any country in the world. Best wishes from germany.

  • "DVU" and "Die Linke" arn't radikal!

    Get information you noob!!

  • Of course both of them are radical. It is funny to read that I shoud be a noob because of telling the truth. The meaning of noob is different. So don't be aggressive, even if you vote for these parties.

  • here in Argentina, ultra-right nationalists don't get even 1% of votes in democratic votes

  • I cant understand why German people are feeling so guilty for the humanity?

They should be proud because they fought the real enemy...

  • @TrueBeliever666: our real enemy is within.

  • be more specific please:)

  • I mean for so many thousands of years people have blamed some other groups of people for their miseries.... When we really only have ourselves to blame.

Therefore our enemy is ourselves... our own shortcomings and weaknesses and desires which are the real cause for our misery. Now I may sound like a Bible beater yelling up a revival at a river crossing camp meeting, but that don't change the truth none. There's right and there's wrong.

  • I agree that you must change yourself first and after the others but nowdays some people or some groups of people they dont want you to change !They want you in a fake world with misery !And this groups you must fight in my personal opinion.

  • you mean the Zionists?

  • offcourse

  • The Obama Youth are one example.

  • @freedomman121, you hit the nail right on the head. History repeats itself over and over again. They remind me of the brown shirts. The Public Fool (school) system teaches kids to blindly follow authority and never think independently or for themselves. Watch John Carpenters "They Live" (1988) and "The Money Masters' on youtube to get the bigger picture.

  • I know many german ppl who protest againts racism and nazis and think of all the victims of the second world war

you may be right that the german movie is more violent, espacially in the end, where he commits suicide, but the director wanted to show, that there's nothing good about the wave, in difference to the book he wanted to show the horrible things of the wave and how the ppl changed

I just want you to stop and think do you really believe that every german guy is like that? No you don't!

  • I think all the ppl have to think about what the germans have done...and us, the germans ourselves, too. But all you guys also have to understand, that not everybody from germany is or even was like this. I think this film shows very good, why nobody at first saw what was going on, but many german ppl had to die because they were against the nazis...

We can't change what has happend, but not only german ppl were and are racists.

  • littoelmisstrabbl, many Germans saw what was going on. There were street fights between German communists and Nazis. Only 37.2 % actually voted for the NSDAP in 1933. Otto Wels, representative of the German Social Democrats, held a brave speech against the "Ermächtigungsgesetz" (the law finally empowering Hitler) in the Reichstag, although armed (!) SA-troups were present, Georg Elser built a bomb all by himself to kill Hitler.... resistance WAS there, but it wasn't enough.

  • german nazi sucks and is full of racist. nazis are weak. they only strong and think tey are the best in their own territory. lol

  • They're not even strong XP

  • I watched the German version of this movie as well on my class in the German lessons..I didn't like it..but we must watch it.. we become a exam about it

  • I watched the German one in my german class and it was really, really good! But it would be cool to see an american new version of it :D

  • haha yeah the german version is better, they should make a more recent american one

  • thnx a lot for posting. grat material.

  • the german version is much better!

alta die deutsche version is ya viel besser ey!!!Und so was is möglcih abba da brauch man n scheiss gutn lehrer!^^

  • its not often that I say such a thing but, the german version is better

  • sry for all the things about america i like america but its the best example

  • yeah sure... like the present generation of germans did anything. Besides history is for us to LEARN from so as to NOT make our mistakes again.

  • Yes, but Germans have this in their nature! You can't just erase it!

  • WHAT??!! do you really think that

thats crap i dont know anyone who thinks like this

i dont understand why the whole world still thinks that germans are nazis thats bullshit omg i mean its like i would say its the nature of the american to kill indians thats crap i think it was cruel what WAS going on in germany but look at the americans there are STILL fights between the white and black people and no one tells them xenophobic or anything

  • @pinkesquitschi

Dude! Relax! It's simple fact about Germans. Yes they aren't the same as they were 50-60 years ago, but hey, have yaou ever heard for neo-nazis? I'm not saying that, they are all the same, but there are exceptions. No, I'm not from Germany and no I'm not a Jew ... I'm learning german btw.

And wtf is that: America vs. India? Fail?

  • I can understand both of you. There are only a hand full of people in Germany who would still call themselves Nazis or Neo-Nazis - maybe 0.01% at best. BUT the amount of people who would call themselves Communists in Germany is extremely high. So in a sense KlemzorArcher is right. For many americans understand that de-valueing people for their class background is just as wrong as de-valueing them for their race background.

  • not vs.india

i looked it up its indian=native american

    i looked it up!!! xD

    (indianer halt)

  • of course, german ppl did many bad things, but not all,and not we,the kids and their parents!and what´s with all the other ppl?from other nations?was, and is everybody perfect in america or everywhere else?just think about the things you say...are you sure, that you´re a much better person then a german guy...?

  • PMPL... unike the peace loving Americans eh?

  • They call german krauts because at that time, (sauer)kraut was some kind of vegetable the Germans ate a lot.

If the allies boys survived for another day, they would brag about how many krauts they shot.

The Dutch word for kraut = mof.

  • LOL... i am not sure if i should agree or disagree with you (-:

  • wow, itto, i really do see that you know all of us germans. respect, dumbnuts!

  • A very blinkered view.... Dont forget to mention some of the greatest thinkers in history came from Germany

  • I just wrote this comment on the last part of the movie so here it goes again...

IMO, its a tribal mentality. all humans have it, whether its sports' team, gangs, town, state, country, cults, etc. Its just a question of commitment by the one doing the influencing and the one being influenced.

  • i only watched the trailer of the new german movie, but we watched this movie here in german in our german class. i think it was time now to film it again. it is just too old, this one. it is sufficent to watch it as a film to the book, but from what i saw of the new movie, the new one is better. but this one here is not as different from the book as the new one.

  • honestly... have you ever seen the German remake of this film? At first I have to confess that I am German as well and so perhaps I´m not that objective in my opinion as I would hope! But... is there any person who is interested in history that could not be subjective? To come back to the topic: my American friends watched the remake as they did with this one and all of them thought that the German version is much better... which is mostly due to newer and latest style and behaviour etc.!

  • well i guess it's a matter of taste. I like things being presented the way they actually happened - and i think what the history teacher did was a bold, educational thing that should be encouraged. But the new film portays him as the vilain and i think that is wrong. Cause it was man like that teacher who saw through such regimes and dared to speak out.

Besides i don't need a bunch of drugs, sex and senseless violence thrown into a movie in order to find it interresting - neither do my kids.

  • I saw the German one. I don't believe he was portrayed as a villian. I don't think anyone was.

And I thought the movie was better. You could feel yourself be drawn into it.

  • If it wasn't for sex you wouldn't have any kids.

  • die deutsche version ist besser

  • The german version is very good..-.-

  • that's right...and i mean it'S not our fault that there were german nazis lots of years ago. But everyone's calling us nazis...

even at these times only 10% of all germans were nazis... the rest was just scared of hitler

sry for my bad english xD

  • but I don't know anybody here eating this xD

and Germans are not Nazis ...

    sry for my bad english^^

  • Alle People who thinks that German People are Nazis will never learn of the history. We Germans accept that is it a black part of our History an today 53 Day after the end of War ..we germans can't forget about it and we always had to heard :Nazi Germany or something else..

SRY SRY SRY SRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH ._.

  • ya those people are dumb.

    jon from toronto canada

  • Well, i'm from Denmark and we were conquered by you (wasn't as hard as it sounds, took a hour), Germany I mean, so we should be rely mad at you, but besides my Grandma- which lived back then- nobody cares. I mean i actually fell kind of sorry for the people that lived in Germany at that time, because of how they were threated(i think its spelled that way). And by the way, we don't call you Krauts in Denmark but Tyskere, which means Germans.

  • We watched this in Language Class!

  • well.. i've changed my mind in a positive way!

and i think people should read about history... get some information... before judging... because i used to judge without reasons... and now i can see the difference

  • the cities of Nod will rise

  • I'm brazilian.. and i don't speak English very well... so I don't know what krauts means... and honestly... i don't wanna know... because... the people who lives in German on these days aren't the same of that time... and... i changed my mind about Germans when i watched this movie at school!

I used to judge all of the Germans because of Hitler who wasn't a German!!!! And i was thinking with myself and i realized that for my country i would let me be manipulated because i LOVE my country...

  • ok...i don't understand every word...but..did you change your mind about the germany in a positiv or negative way???

  • I'm german

why are you calling us "crowds" ? :D

  • Sauerkraut is eklig..buääähh

  • naja kommt drauf an wers macht =)

  • Wow, this is an embarrassingly ignorant thread of commentary that laughs in the face of the fundamentally important message that this movie was intended to send. I watched this movie in 7th grade English class (1991), after reading Night by Eli Wiesel. It made me understand, at the age of 13, how easily an intelligent, charismatic, megalomaniac, despot, using the right propaganda, could manipulate and intimidate an entire nation into supporting one of the greatest atrocities in human history.

  • Same story here, except i watched this in 8th grade

  • @notides, the most frightening part of all of this is how the international bankers financed Hitler and BOTH sides of both WWI and WWII and history again is repeating itself. Please watch "Endgame: Blueprint For Global Enslavement" and "The Money Masters" on youtube in order to get the bigger picture. You are definitely on the right track and more informed than most people. Thank you for sharing your comment.

  • o my god?! is it even possible for everyone shut the fuck up?! i mean come on, calling people "krauts" or "fat fucking american" wont make you any better and calling people that doesnt change history or anything going on right now. because not all germans are Krauts and not all americans are fat or stupid or bastards.

(and not all people are any other racial name for other ppl in a country.)

  • Why are you calling them german Krauts? You really proof your own american stereotype... shame on you, I hope not all americans are as racist as you. And the German movie "Die Welle" could be exaggerated, but it is a wonderful movie with great actors... better than the typical hollywood stuff of your country. I suggest that you should be more careful next time saying something like that.

  • mainstream is vapid, of course, but that doesnt constitute American Film in its entirety. We have concentrations of both insipid projects, along with the production of more "worthy" films then any other country

moreover, Germany is, as you know, one of the world's most revered cinematic producers, but do you really think that would be if Hitler's, and i hate to keep throwing him back in your faces, ideals were still the sovereignty, or had succeeded

  • moep. wtf are you talking about?

  • wow krauts? buddy Its not cool calling all germans krauts you egotistical prick. i dont care if you are german or not id still slap you across the face for calling me one. Im an american german so id really hope you learn from somthing like the holocaust. The nazis singled jews out. ofcourse it can possibly happen again, but history is about learning lessons from the past. but since you like to single people out "krauts" doesnt look like you learned from it.

  • im american, and i know that modern-day germany is clearly not the same as nazi germany. the so-called "krauts" probably... no, they DO have a better economy than america does right now. be a little more rational with the comments next time, supenmanu.

  • you americans are allways taking everything sooo literally... besides... YES i am a Kraut - so i am better in judging them (-: athough i should not pass judgement i know... i wasn't really passing judgement though... just warning them (-:

  • and who do you think you are calling us Krauts? Maybe I should call you fat stupid American? That would do the same job ...

  • @Supenmanu

I find this statement pretty offensive. I'm german myself and what lesson are you talking about? That a dictatorship is still possible today? Yea we know that since we all watched the video or the recent movie. By the way I thought it was great! FAR BETTER than all those freakin blockbusters from hollywood! Now THOSE are really senseless and violent! Because this movie has a very important message! Be careful that a dictatorship like in nazi germany won't happen again!

  • you stupid american bastard!

it is you who discriminate the black people!

it is you who attack irak and afghanistan because you think they are all terrorists.

  • wtf?
