I wouldn't say that you don't snap your wrist in tennis, but the racquetball technique has a much more intense snap. Also, the snap is more important to the swing in racquetball.
You don't snap your wrist in tennis and ping pong, and thats what makes raquetball different? I am very good at tennis and ping pong, and let me tell you, you snap your wrist. Period. You don't, well then you suck. Raquetball is awesome though just picked up on it.
Did he really say that you don't need to bend your wrist in tennis?! WTF?! That couldn't be further from the truth. He may know racquetball, but obviously his exposure to tennis and its most BASIC techniques is limited. Its one of the first things you learn to master, you cant hit with spin without it. THAT IS ALL.
Very helpful. I come from a huge tennis background so the swing has really been bothering me (and the fact that I hit the top edge since the raquet's too short). I'll definitely be working on this. Thanks.
Watch John Ellis's video titled. "How to hit Forehand', it's more fundamental. Theres no emphasis on snapping your wrist. I would love to see a skilled racquetball player consciously time a wrist snap while swinging a racquet close to 100mph. while the ball is traveling towards him at an even greater speed. :) Please show me that video. ;)
Everyone unconsciously snaps their wrist, pros do it perfectly even at full swing it's timing, you gotta keep it loose and not stiff. That's where all the power comes from or else it would be no faster that how fast you can swing your arm.. which isn't anywhere close to 100mph BTW. He's just making sure people are aware and don't have a stiff wrist. Every breakdown of a swing I've ever seen emphasizes wrist snap.
I've been playing for over 20 years. I would never emphasize wrist snap. Snapping your wrist is just the result of a relaxed follow through. Everything else he said is some what true, lead in with your elbow, keep you wrist slightly cocked back so its square on impact, rotate into the ball keeping you racquet face perpendicular to the ground and swing parallel to the floor in a slightly downward path. AFTER you hit the ball relax and let your wrist snap and forearm rotate.
this guy was in the top 10 on the IRT a couple years ago....your wrist snap is the final element in power for the advanced player even woody clouse another IRT pro describes this in his book winning racquetball...
dont believe me? watch any tennis pros. they snap their wrist to generate the follow through after contact, although his imitation of the tennis swing is used by mostly beginners.

hahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!! LOL good squash players kill racquetball players the same or higher levels...racketball players of equivalent levels cant even get a point off a squash player? I wonder why? this guy is cute and a confident talker... but hes no athlete! but thats just my opinion,,, I like hard rock music skateboarding, Punk , and well....you know......squash! oh yeah and tennis players could pay all of'em to clean their house...on the beach! LOL
This is one of the best summaries I've heard in years about how to swing properly. I'm coaching a player now who practically refuses to break her wrist because of prior tennis habits. I'm sending her the link to this video tonight.
The trick to keep your goggles clear is to keep the perspiration away from the inner lens area. When I first played the game, my goggles were so fogged up that I could hardly see. I tried everything from Rain-X to all kinds of lens chemicals but to no avail.
Then I tried this simple thing: use head-band to keep perspiration from going into the goggles from your forehead area and constantly dry my eye area with an over-sized wristband. It works like a charm.
Horrible idea. The new glasses dont fog up at all, and they are essential for players to wear. Getting hit in the eye without glasses can cause you to lose an eye. Dont trust your friends opinions, make your own. If you've never tried glasses, try them.
I've played for a long time as well and have never used goggles. Before I ask my question let me first make it clear that I am not endorsing not wearing goggles. I know it's not too bright not wearing them and I'm sure I need to start. But my question is - how does one get hit in the eye? Wouldn't the shot just hit you in the back of the head? I'm not trying to be a smart alec, I'm seriously asking.
No, because top players are always watching their opponent. You should always be looking at your opponent when they shoot, so you know where they are going with the ball.
Gotcha. I figured it was something like that. I need to pay closer attention to how long I keep my eye on my opponent. As I watch top players play, it appears as though their head is turning towards the front wall as their opponents are making contact and their heads have made the complete turn as their opponents follow through. But they are probably holding their view of their opponents a little longer than it appears. Thanks.
Going form tennis to racquetball is a bumpy transition...

ROB...IF YOU SNAP YOUR WRIST IN TENNIS....YOU WILL INJURE YOUR TENDONS. THE WRIST MOVES IN TENNIS BUT ITS NOT THE SAME SNAP AS IN RACQUETBALL.
Cenotediver 1 year ago
@Cenotediver Agree, tennis is sideways snap, racquetball is forward/backward, just like in badminton.

@Cenotediver I dont think he was saying anything against Tennis. Just noting the differences.

Good advice. I've seen old-school googles that are just frames, but are small enough to keep the ball from hitting your eyes.
