Mindblowing Zander, really, outstanding... Could I ask which tuning you use for this piece? and also what set of strings?, piccolo?. Thank you in advance, and greetings from Mexico. I'm a big fan of your music by the way...
zander your work is awesome i love how you arrange songs on your instrument i have been subscribed for a really long time and dont get me wrong but i really like and appreciate this style of playing want to see you play some cool groovy stuff ....keep up the good work
thanks for your comment and thanks for supporting my music all this time. to be honest, i feel that the groovy stuff isn't really my style. there's a ton of guys out there doing that sort of thing, plus i really enjoy the sort of music i play more - which is why I play it! however, i have been working on some percussive stuff so hopefully when i release that it'll have a cool groove!
Its so nice to hear and see you playing these songs. I bought your album and book and I'm slowly starting to play some of your peices! I even bought a new bass guitar and had some piccolo strings custom made (can't seem to find D'Addarios anywhere!)
Hey man. Your music is absolutely amazing. So what gauge do you use and do you have trouble tracking down the strings? Can't wait to get the tab book for this album.
Also how do you get that sweet reverb sound. Is it like a combo of delay/infinite sustain and some chorus. What exactly do you do?
he mostly uses his thumb and index for this type of playing, but sometimes you put in the middle finger as well for more notes at the same time, different strings or whatnot. he also used the ring finger to get that sixteenth note triola.
one thing that amazes me about you is that im not jealous as a bass player, but instead in total admiration and pride for you, even tho i have never met or spoken to you before. absolutely beautiful bass playing, keep it up :)
i have been listening to you for a long time.. it's the first time that i post something but in all this time the words have ended.. i have no more words to express what your music makes me feel, it's just unsayable, but i think that all the people who listen to this beauty can understand what i'm saying. keep playing zander, you have THE GIFT
1 person tried to play this... I'm not even gonna try, (even though i have a Zon myself) cause this is just of another world. Absolutely spectacular... A true master of the instrument!
what do you find the benefits of altered tunings to be? the only thing i could think of is better range of harmonics. im an aspiring bassist and looking to absorb as much as i can.
with altered tunings, you can optimize the use of your open strings, create different chord voicings, different harmonic chords and can extend the range of the instrument. you can also alter the timbre of your instrument. good luck!
One question about your tone, I get can a similar tone on my guitar through my podx3, but when I strum chords, the sound doesn't ring out as clearly as in your videos! How do you get such a clear sound?! Mind sharing some settings? : )
my eq is always set to flat. i'm recording through some quality equipment, which contributes to the clear sound. i'm using an apogee duet and recording directly into my macbook.
I have to ask if you don't mind Zander. What type of bass are you using, what's your setup? Strings, etc? I love your sound, I am definitely buying your cd's.
You have the most amazing, fluid technique I have ever witnessed! Easily up along side the Michael Manrings, Jacos and Victor Wootens of this world ;) Zander = God
Saw this on All Bass No Treble. AMAZING! You're one of the best solo bassists I've ever seen, beautiful work. I've never heard harmonics used so well before!
every time I see a new video posted by you i expect great things, and you always deliver. your performances leave me wanting more always! I would love to buy the album but unfortunately right now money is tight. As soon as i save enough, it's top of my list. keep up the amazing work :)
Every time i listen to you play i don't want to play bass with my fat strings and end up buying another set of piccolo strings and spending weeks playing around with melodies.. your inspirational man.
There is the neck tension to deal with: the lower tension is inadequate to pull the neck straight. I wouldn't want to play with the torsion bar unless I knew what I was really doing.
@Carusus1 from what i understand, you could make any bass a piccolo by changing over to piccolo strings and changing the nut to accommodate the smaller string gauges.
I've been watching your videos ever since you only had four or five posted on YouTube. And I have to say unlike other musicians I've seen, everything that you've put out is truly amazing. Don't ever stop doing what you do.
hey mate, thanks! i'd look into manson's guitar shop in exeter for a zon bass. i think they have a few there. also, just try giving joe zon a call and asking where he distributes to in the uk. let me know if you need any more help. cheers, dude.
