  • Nice but you're not fingering the C#m7 or G#7 correctly. The C you play on the 3rd string of the C#m7 should be flatted to Bb (flat 7 makes a 7th chord, 7th=B). I have no idea why a 7th chord requires a flatted 7th and not a natural. Similar on the G#7, the G you play on the 4th string should be an F (the flat 7th). And what you said was a Bb chord is a really a B which is right (B root second fret A string). Clapton seems to mute the first string on the D. :) Got a couple ideas from you, Thnx!

  • Congrats on a million... Nice vid,

(although your mouth says "Bb", while your hands say "B").

  • Wasn't the chord you described at the start a B not a Bm 7. Confused, great vid's by the way. Thanks

  • That's a damn nice guitar

  • I think if you had not existed 3 years ago I probably did not start playing the guitar at this time.

( I am not sure if my sentence is correct but i hope to be understood )

    Thanks From France !

  • The first chord that your playing is C#m not C#m7.

  • i love it abit tricky though, needs practicing

    Thanks Mojo

  • a quarter million people were asking for the electric version

  • @gunniesack if each person that make up that quarter million group is willing to send me a $1 donation each, I think I could be convinced to do it ;)

  • haahah, half a billion, are you sure?

  • @facubarca It's a joke, idiot! lol

  • @gibsonlespaul will smith..... what are u smoking XD give me a little....

  • My dads friend has that EXACT guitar what model and brand is it?

  • @HeyItsCoop It's an Ovation Celebrity Deluxe :)

  • @ThreeChordGuitar sweet. i just got an ovation celebrity stantard. i was trying out that exact guitar but it seemed to flashy for me

  • Cool. I really liked this one. Thanks.

  • can you do turn the page by bob segar??

  • Sorry dude to be 'picky' but the Bb Chord you're playing is actually B Major. Sorry mate, but a great instruction anyway

  • @gomezz12 Actually, I think that is a Bflat he played. He barred the 2nd. fret, and made the A shape, 3rd. fret. That's a Bb (flat). Sorry mate, but I think you the wrong one here. :)

  • 00:57 Thats what she said

  • Thank you for teaching so many songs, your are amazing just for doing this work, for taking the job to do it. Thank, i learn a lot of songs thanks to you, you make it easy. The best of luck to you, goodbye.

  • I love your Ovation by the way:) my friends dad has one and wow it sounds fantastic. If only I can afford it:P Thank you for this video I enjoy this song listening to it and even more playing it now:) I really appreciate this :D

    Keep rocking and posting:)

  • @rockmusic121 Yes it is, a Celebrity Deluxe :)

  • I love the way you teach your lessons! Would you please do one on the Eagles song " Love will keep us alive "? Thank You, Dee

  • @Dedes41 I'd love to, but can't. The Eagles have threatened to shut down my channel if I posted any more of their tunes. I had to remove the ones I already had. :(

  • @ThreeChordGuitar hey i love your lessons. Im accualy able to learn what your teaching. But i have a song request. You give love a bad name by bon jovi

  • gg man,u rock xD

  • tnx buddy even im a begginer in my 40year i can understand you lesson

    sincerely from MACEDONIA

  • Finally - someone who does the whole song, not just the intro. Good job!

  • As interesting and layed back as your video is, and you play and sing quite well, I wonder why you make mistakes with the naming of chords correctly. You play and repeatedly call a B chord "B flat", and you insist on calling over and over again the C charp minor as "C sharp minor 7", You even explain that it is a bar chord at the 4th fret with the shape of an "a minor chord". It is a shame that your good work is blemished by a lack of attention. I hope this helps.

  • good stuff

  • I crushed my fingers in an accident a couple of years ago and I'm unable to bar a chord using my index finger now. So I have to improvise. Which is why I hate learning songs which you have to bar chords. Still it's worth learning. Cheers Mojo.

  • @angels77100 You dont always have to use a barred finger, you can use your thumb over the top of the guitar and have a regular F open chord formation along with that...all the string will be covered resulting in the same chord you originally want.

  • Thank you man, greetzz from Holland

  • i have trouble with bar chords. do u have any 3 chord tunes using a capo?

  • damm you look like will smith (exept your white)

  • lol

  • @GibsonLesPauI damn well must be smokin some good shit after that coment

  • Can i use my electric guitar while you were using an acoustic guitar on this video?

Does it sound the same? Or will the chords be the same?

    Thanks man!

  • yey the chords are the same, except the B he's playing is supposed to be Bflat barred at 1st fret. And the intro and chorus are barrd by clapton B C Dm, Mojo tries to simplify everything for the new players I think

  • play some james taylor, id really like to learn steamroller by him, it would be appreciated

  • b flat is on first fret. the root on first fret of a string

  • nice ovation! :)

  • Hi 2:23 it B Major not B Flat. Great Video!!

  • Hi 2:23 it B Major not B Flat as you said. Great Video!! Keep it up.

  • great vid.great personality.keep up the good work.

  • so what were the chords ? :S

    cm7 ? am ? bm ? :S:S:S: can anyone tell me ?

  • Awesome lesson and very well explained.

  • first of all this is a very good tut.

but its the acusitic version, i mean i was looking for that epic guitar intro...

  • I've had a gander at many of your videos and like your teaching style.

You've clearly had a good deal of, much deserved, positive feedback.

If I was to say suggest anything that may help improve your vids, is a list of the chords that you use and the order in which you use them at the start of the lesson.

As a beginner, my method may not be good, but I tend to find myself rewinding/pausing over and over to write a list before I seriously start trying to learn anything.

    Great work all the same.

  • Hey Mojo u think u could do a lesson on Cocaine???

  • I hope you mean the JJ Cale song ;) Yeah, I should look into it. It's a great song. Thanks!

  • I't goes up your nose.

  • less shit talk man

  • More social graces, man. Oh yeah, and punctuation would also be appreciated.

  • nice guitare :p

  • Sorry, even I made a misstake in this one... (So much for being a Wise-ass, right...) everything I said about the C-chord is going to be C-sharp (C#). Sorry 'bout that... :o).

Anyway, we will rock the world, right?

  • Hi,

Liked your simplified version of Layla Accoutic. Just a few comments (all so friendly).

It is not a Cmin7 you are showing... It is a Cminor (which is correct). And second, and more important... It's defenently not a B-flat (Bb)... It's a B... :o) Biiiig difference... You are playing it correct, but I just want to erase any missunderstanding regarding the chord-names. Sorry for my bad english. Keep on rockin'!

  • Thanks :)

  • what tuning?it isnt normal

  • it is

  • beautiful tutorial.. easy to follow..

  • Mojo: I've been playing for 40+ years and I have never seen anyone with such "nack" for teaching. You take songs that most beginners would never tackle and make them easy to play. Never doubt the importance of your videos...Thank you!

  • Thanks a bunch!

  • Nice, thanks a lot. I wonder how would this song sound on your Godin 5Th Av.

  • i know this is the unplugged version, but is your ovation plugged in? Thanks.

  • Nope, it's not plugged in... unless you count the microphone in the video camera as a source of amplification, which I suppose it is...

  • Very good lesson, thank you. One little problem, you refer to a B chord as a Bb and that might be confusing to a new player.

  • Man, you're just AWESOME!!!

I learnt more from you in a week that what i learnt in 3 years playing the guitar!!

Can i make a request? Could you teach us "Blackbird" by The Beatles?

    Thanks again!!

    keep going!!

  • you don't like pick's very much do you

  • More than anything, I can't play with them :)

  • Me either.

  • Comment removed

  • mojo you rock man !!! the best lesson on utube... keep going !!

  • Great lesson Mojo. I tried to sign up for your forum and can't register. But aside from that , this is one of the best lessons on Layla I have seen. Keep them coming.

  • People need to take it easy. This is a BASIC version of the song, Just something to get you started.

    Great job Mojo.

  • best teacher on the net that i know of!!!

  • This is awesome.. Thanks for sharing!!!

  • you mean B not Bb?

  • hi guy, good job for the most part, however I'm sure you"ve seen this b-4.

    Intro just hold a Dm & w/pinky hit open A H on 3rd-Bb-C-Dm also Bb is on the 1st &3rd & a "B" is on 2nd & 4th & it's just a Cm not Cm7 not break'n nads keep up the good work just FYI

  • good lesson but wrong on the chorus...............it's actually Dmin, 0h3 on second string, Bb, C................or if you want to get technical it's actually D5, 0h3 on second string, D5, Dmin, 0h3, Bb, C.....

  • love you mojo

  • Thank you very much. A very good tutorial. At last I have found what I've been looking for to play this nice song. Thanks again.

  • Great lesson, Great Song

  • Mojo is God !

  • really nice tutorial... i finally got to play it right ..thanks mate

  • ha it looks like mr mojo might be a little stonedddddd lol

    peacee

  • Never been either stoned or drunk in my life, so I guess I just appeared to be :)

  • :O:O:O

  • yeehaa i've got the same guitar :D

    it's an ovation isn't it ??

  • very good tutor. thanks a lot. felt like you were right in front of me A++

  • You made my day!

  • Hmm.. you playing B & calling it Bflat?

Very imformative though, and well explained..

  • I noticed that too, and aren't those just plain G sharp and C sharp? whatever though the other lessons on this song are pretty bad and except for that little bit of confusion this one is excellent

  • ya what he played was a g sharp minor, but i think the real chord is a minor 7, but all you have to do to make it a 7 chord is take off your ring finger

  • Wow I'm really looking forward to getting started on this!

I've been messing around with the intro for a while, but your video has really cleared it up for me!

  • you sound like derek from zoolander at 0:17 when you say have a billlion times hahaha

  • mm.. no

  • mm.. yes

  • great, thats what i need. Just chorus, i think there should be B before C. But thats only the way how i play this song. But you helped me really much. Thanks man

  • well "oatmealpizza4u" must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed, or they had oat meal pizza. Sounds like it tastes like shit to me haha. Nice way to get back at him though, I thought that was pretty funny. Oh by the way you teach very nicely. Good job.

  • Way to tell em man I play guitar but dont know any chords ether but that hasn't inhibited me at all. And i can play better than a lot of people than i know.

  • how the hell does this have 277 5 star reviews. he doesnt know chords. hes a piece of shit teacher. eat my ass u piece of fuck

  • No offense, but I wouldn't eat your ass, not even with someone else's teeth. What can I say, I have higher standards. Good day! :)

  • good answer!

    cheers mate.

    btw thank you :)

  • Thanks for the support, and... you're welcome :)

  • bad remarks .......

  • shows how much you know, the beauty of th e guitar is there are the same notes all over the guitar, and ya mojo doesnt play it exactly like claption, thats the beauty of the guitar....

besides who wants ot hear a carbon copy every time,,,,,,soyou eat my ass u piece of shit lol

KEEP IT UP MOJO YER A BIG HELP!!!

  • It's funny,he don't even know the chords, :))

No dude, don't teach any stuff !!!

  • Why don't you upload a vid of you teaching then, if you are so good. This is the interwebz after all where anyone can do anything. Put up or shut up.

  • i dont think hes playing a bflat I think hes playing a b sharp

  • its a B major chord, a B sharp would be a C and it would be barred at the 3rd fret, hope that helps

  • its a B natural, one fret below the C

  • yes, the C#m7s look like C#m to me

  • i like ur version but i kinda lik e the chorus with the Dm, Bb, C, Dm and the walk down thing that clapton does on the recording on the first Dm

  • is that a C#m7? it just looks like a C#m, what makes it a 7? i thought those were a different shape.

  • It's pretty straight forward when you're familiar with it. Remove the third finger - the one on the d string. What makes it a 7 is that the extra note that this produces is the minor seventh note of the C# scale (one semi-tone flatter than the major seventh). Hope that's helpful

  • for 7 u need the pinky....for something:P

  • 2nd fret is a B, NO ?

    around 02:30

  • i thought so too

  • thanks a lot, real nice of you to post this video here :)

real good one, i was struggling with the chords big time before, now its all nice and smooth!

one change i did make though; I play the chorus with Dm, Bb, C, Dm but your version sounda amazing as well, so thats just another way to do it. but thanks again. keep these coming, i love them!

  • hey dude awasome lesson, u rock :))

Can C sharp and G sharp be replaced with different chrods?

im a beginner so i cant play those wierd chords yet :))

  • Dude that was a good job ... I was rather confused about all those weird chords that Eric Clapton was playing in the song but what u did was a good replacement of madly jazzy chords with some simple ones ... Besides , honestly I didn't hear any 7th flavor in the chords you were playin (specially the bar ones) I think you only played the minor and Major ones.

  • I still can't play the chorus properly. Can someone help me out? Maybe put chords in the song lyrics? Please. :)

  • i never understand how people watch these videos and then talk about how bad they are. no one is making anyone watch these videos. if you don't find them helpful don't watch them. i think this guy is doing a great job and i appreciate his posting free videos for our benefit

  • Thanks for the kind support!

  • Yo Mojo...First you doing a great job...I am really learning lots of guitar songs and tips on how to play blues and stuff...And I m a guitar player at the " potato " level....Keep up and thanks from Spain.

PS.- Instead of naming your videos " how to...." why not just saying the name of the song or...DEMO...it will be much easier to find what I look for....Yeah...I m being sellfish...so what...( just kidding )...;)

  • Dude, how many guitars do you actually have!?

  • the intro is a little bit more complicated than that :)

  • SaintJope lets see you play like this then... stick on the video... we are all waiting?!! then lets judge YOU

  • it does'n got half a million vieuws :P

  • this guy sucks man let go the guitar man and go at the market to get some musical talent u don`t know what is an C#m7:| wtf and u play layla go and f^^ ur self

  • This guy doesnt know what C#m7 is. Yes its bar from the 4th fret but not Am shape, its Am7 shape so you just take the finger on the G string off. This guy is playing C#m and G#m.

  • yes, this guy really sucks...

  • Give the guy a break. He posts a lot of really good guitar lessons online. Personally I'm grateful for what he does.

  • Me too, well explained and well demonstrated. Good job Mojo

  • So I have that exact guitar, the only differece is the face color is different. Lol!

  • Thanks a lot. Really a very good lesson!

    Best regards from Germany

  • great lesson man

  • This is great tuition and you are doing a nice job. Just one observation here and that is the Bb chord you keep mentioning is actually a B when you play it.....err, maybe you recorded this too early in the morning when guitarists' minds aren't quite working properly ? Anyway, keep up th good work,

    Robby

  • Great job!! I am a pretty good guitar player and you are doing a great service. When I started playing in 1970, we had to pull the music off the record...great job!!

  • Tell 'him, buddy. You're fine. Keeeeep it up. Love those Bill Crook guitars, too!

  • Dont answer this kind of comments its pointless by the way you rock!!!!

  • i cant believe you took offense.. lol

  • Hey mate, cheers for posting the video.

    Isn't that a C#m not a C#m7, and just a B, not a Bflat.

I'm a beginner, so i'm not bein a smartass i just want to be sure

  • Thank you so much.

  • I never commented on youtube. I have had many guitar teachers. You are an excellent teacher. Thanks

  • hmm, i think the chorus is wrong (no offence, its well played, just missing a chord).

its D minor, B, C and back to d minor. and the you repeat that, so you see that you're playing the D minor 2 times when you play it the second time. but anyways, its my favorite song of all times and it's well singed and played :)

  • Arent you supposed to have a Bb in the chorus?

    Then it goes Dm-Bb-C-Dm?

  • love the intro ;D

  • you are great my friend, im beginer and, it helped me a lot, is my best song. i hope you've got more free videos :)

    thanks a lot

  • I am glad you enjoyed it! I have 124 free videos online, so I hope you'll find at least one other one you like ;)

  • thats a mouthful isnt it?

  • i can't get the barre's good.
