@nicklldo , Yeah, some guy who owns a Kia or a Suburu thinks you can move a few bolts around and put on some tires and do this. Well, not to bust their douchebags, it took about 30K to move the Cummins motor and driveline, allowing me to move intercooler and radiator forward - allowing me to cut the frame and hood to allow 42" Beadlocked tires to stick beyond the modified vehicle, to perform this stunt day in and day out. Also New drivelines and CV joints too, yeah real easy

It's got an AM General aluminum body and frame, a 5.9 HPCR Cummins motor, a Dodge 48re tranny and a New Venture 271 tcase, Auburn lockers. The steering column is part Ford and D/C. The seat belts are probably GM, I am not sure - those I do need.

@nubetube513 The '03s came with optional front lockers, the '04 and later front and rear. They can always be added aftermarket. Join HumveeDotNet (free site), those guys will steer you in the right direction, it's a good owners group.
Does anyone have comment on 2002 to 06 h1's diesel, gas, ratio, reliable engine? Interior options, body types? Almost ready to sign my name on the dotted line but after reading pages like these I'm tryin to do as much crunch time research as possible.
@nubetube513 NV missed the 6.5 n/a that came out in '94 :) From 1994 to 2004 they had the 4speed 4l80e, In '06 (no '05 production) they had the Duramax/Allison. '03 and '04 had the less powerful Optimizer 6500 variant. Short of some vent louvers and the intake, the body styles almost visually identical from 1992 - 2006 including 2 and 4 dr's wagons and open tops.
I case anybody was wondering, the CIVILIAN H1 hummers came with four different engines over thier life span; the GM 6.2L non-turbo, the 5.7L GM corporate (aka small-block chevy) gasoline V8, the GM 6.5L turbo, and the 6.6L Duramax. The 6.2 was the fist hummer civilian engine, and was available through the 95 model year. The 5.7 L gas V8 was available in 95 only. The 6.5L Turbo replaced the 6.2 in '96, and that engine was in use until it was replaced by the 6.6 duramax in the H1 alpha.
That looks like fun. Why would anybody want to swap in a navistar or cummins? The trucks work just fine with the original motors. even the lowly 6.2 non-turbo had awesome off road performance. If anything, I would get an early 6.2 version, and then install a banks turbo kit. I totally get the gearhead thing, and okay, ford and dodge had great motors and all, but a hummer aint a ford and it aint a dodge. why do gearheads always try to make things complicated? I know that Hummers are built for offroad. However, they do get stuck sometimes. Having said that, something tells me there is no stopping this one. At all. Ever.
Cummins is the highest rated diesel engine in terms of long term reliability. Don't even consider the Ford. The DMax and Cummins both have similar performance, the Cummins does it with 40% fewer parts. That makes it the better design. Both use the same IP, injectors, etc.
@RidgeRunner88 The 6.9 and the early 7.3's were not Powerstrokes. When International (manufacturer of the engine) went to direct injection on the 7.3L in 1994 the engine became a Powerstroke.
@PIONEERaudioLOVER And the first years of the 6.0L are horrible! The rest of the Powerstrokes (and later year 6.0L) are pretty respectable, especially the 7.3L. The new 6.7L is quite a beast, it'll be interesting to see its track record and reliability.
not to be rude on anyone but if cummins was so great why is that they are behind the powerstroke and the duramax in countless car and truck mags. Back 15 or so years ago they were the one to beat. But nowadays powerstrokes and duramax are our towing out torque flat out out perform the cummins. They are great motor no doubt but they are falling behind in the market of diesel driven pickups. I like the open top but I can't seem to find any really detailed backseat pics or bed pics. It also seems like I don't really have to get a late model. As much as it narrows down choices it open up a few more lol. Looks like it's boiling down to the engine trans and interior.

@nubetube513 The '03s came with optional front lockers, the '04 and later front and rear. They can always be added aftermarket. Join HumveeDotNet (free site), those guys will steer you in the right direction, it's a good owners group.

Does anyone have comment on 2002 to 06 h1's diesel, gas, ratio, reliable engine? Interior options, body types? Almost ready to sign my name on the dotted line but after reading pages like these I'm tryin to do as much crunch time research as possible.

@nubetube513 NV missed the 6.5 n/a that came out in '94 :) From 1994 to 2004 they had the 4speed 4l80e, In '06 (no '05 production) they had the Duramax/Allison. '03 and '04 had the less powerful Optimizer 6500 variant. Short of some vent louvers and the intake, the body styles almost visually identical from 1992 - 2006 including 2 and 4 dr's wagons and open tops.

I case anybody was wondering, the CIVILIAN H1 hummers came with four different engines over thier life span; the GM 6.2L non-turbo, the 5.7L GM corporate (aka small-block chevy) gasoline V8, the GM 6.5L turbo, and the 6.6L Duramax. The 6.2 was the fist hummer civilian engine, and was available through the 95 model year. The 5.7 L gas V8 was available in 95 only. The 6.5L Turbo replaced the 6.2 in '96, and that engine was in use until it was replaced by the 6.6 duramax in the H1 alpha.

That looks like fun. Why would anybody want to swap in a navistar or cummins? The trucks work just fine with the original motors. even the lowly 6.2 non-turbo had awesome off road performance. If anything, I would get an early 6.2 version, and then install a banks turbo kit. I totally get the gearhead thing, and okay, ford and dodge had great motors and all, but a hummer aint a ford and it aint a dodge. why do gearheads always try to make things complicated? KISS.....Keep It Simple, Stupid.

Cummins is the highest rated diesel engine in terms of long term reliability. Don't even consider the Ford. The DMax and Cummins both have similar performance, the Cummins does it with 40% fewer parts. That makes it the better design. Both use the same IP, injectors, etc.

@RidgeRunner88 The 6.9 and the early 7.3's were not Powerstrokes. When International (manufacturer of the engine) went to direct injection on the 7.3L in 1994 the engine became a Powerstroke.

@PIONEERaudioLOVER And the first years of the 6.0L are horrible! The rest of the Powerstrokes (and later year 6.0L) are pretty respectable, especially the 7.3L. The new 6.7L is quite a beast, it'll be interesting to see its track record and reliability.

not to be rude on anyone but if cummins was so great why is that they are behind the powerstroke and the duramax in countless car and truck mags. Back 15 or so years ago they were the one to beat. But nowadays powerstrokes and duramax are our towing out torque flat out out perform the cummins. They are great motor no doubt but they are falling behind in the market of diesel driven pickups. Ohh and before you go hooting and hollering at me im a dodge guy..

Actually, most semi's don't use cummins.. they use detroit's.. I've been driving a long time and only had 1 truck with a cummins.. it wasn't to bad but my CAT was better.. Minus the excessive oil usage.
