  • and then the 1199 destroyed everything

  • I'm disappointed - there was no wind noise in a MCN video.

  • ich verstehe nichts

  • So the new model is better than the old one, and costs more?? I had no idea!

I dunno though, I've owned a 999 so I have a soft spot for that model, but the 1098/848 models are so beautiful to look at. That said though I'd hardly call the 999/749 series "ugly", just "different".

If you want ugly, just look at the 998 and earlier models... yeah I know I'm gonna get burned for saying that, but thats just my opinion. ;p

  • I didn't know rory gallagher is alive and riding ducati's

  • Had me a 750SS, 900SS and a 996S. Getting me a 999(S) next month, probably an '05 model. Wouldn't I like a 1098 or a 1198 more? Yes. Do i think a 1098 looks better then a 999? Yes, definitely. Then why buy a 999? Can't afford the 1098. 999 offers best buck for money these days. And it's still a hell of a V-twin.

Sure, Japs build the better bikes in sheer numbers of BHP etc. But ride a Duc once and you'll know better for ever...

  • 999/1098 just give me a Ducati!

  • 999 is sex on two wheels really beautuful but I want a 1098 so bad

  • 4 seconds a lap difference is night and day, did they pump up the tyres on the 999???

  • He basically says 'The 1098 is a better bike, but it costs more'. Did he really need to do an endurace race to tell us that?

  • If anyone says the 999 is ugly so help me I'll get really upset. Really, really upset. And not in a good way.

  • @lurcherlongdog

    It isn't pretty.

  • Fuck the bikes....these guys get to ride new kick ass bikes for a living. How awesome s that?

  • @acidangelster FUCK YOU

  • I own a standard 999 with a full Termi exhaust, upgraded ECU and lots of carbon fiber... as well as a 1098s with a full Termi and every piece of c.f. except the fairing. Both bikes are blazing fast but the 999 is easier to keep a line on the track. The 1098s is only slightly faster, turns quicker and wheelies sooner than the 999. Both are serious track bikes and I've turned better times with them than my friends on their R1's, GSX-R's and ZX-10R's. And a used 999 is the best bang for the buck o

  • 999.

  • still love the 999

  • This is pretty much worthless, testing a 999 vs 1098s? Why not 999s and 1098s? I guess we just need to read between the lines.

  • FWIW, the 999 is effin gorgeous in my eyes.

  • so you tested the 1098S vs the 999?

    Wanted to have the 1098win?

    What about testing a 999R vs a 1098?

  • I've not rode a 999 but the 1198s and the bike I rode handled perfectly compaired to the standard 848 and 1098. I don't know if it was because its an s model or it was just set up well. I personally like the looks of the 1098/1198 range better than the 999. Lets not forget that many of these bikes have so many adjustments, they can all be made to suit a rider better. There all good bikes really. I might get an 1198s, not just for speed and cornering but fo the newer engine and maitainance.

  • The 1098 is an improved version of the 999r otherwise they would'nt have made it into production or teams would be still using the 999 in race events. Personaly i think they a study of art but way over price'd an a waste of money. id have an R1 over them any day, was an r1 that won the wsbk championship, infact they one just about every prfessional comp... in europe. wast of money. In prouction race events a ducati wont have a chance against the rest of the class as proving in many events.

  • i prefer the 999r it's been my fav ever since........like 4ever

  • I've recently been curious to what a 999 is like to ride, i've rode a 1098 and sometimes considering buying one but with the price of a 999, it's kinda tempting, Would I be dispointed with the engine and how does it handle compaired with a 1098 ?

  • Wish I could say, I've only ever owned a 999 and am curious how it compares to the 1098 as well as I'm considering getting a 1098 soon. :/

  • Well I'm actually saving for a 1098s or 1198 possibly. I decided I would like a newer model and after I test rode an 1198s an 848 and streetfighter s and 1098. I still haven't made up my mind but the top suspention on the 1198s and the streetfighter s has made me relise how much I desire the handling. I even found it handled better than the 848. So for me i'm thinking of either 1098s or 1198. The streetfighter was awsome but I like faired bikes. The torque makes you smile.

  • Apparently the 999 is more comfortable cos of the adjustable footrests etc. Personally I'd prefer a 999 because they look so different to anything else, whereas the 1098 pretty much looks like an R1, a ZX10 or even a Blade to an extent, albeit it a bit prettier than those bikes

  • @AroonR6 yes i know what you mean, but always remember that ducati has always dictated terms in design styling, you say 1098 is more similar to an r1 than a 999 is, true, but the japaneses copied ducati design of the 916/996/998 in order to improve their bikes. the same happened with the exaust: ducati was the first with the exaust under the seat, than yamaha and honda copied it for the R1 and the CBR. what i'm triing to say is: japanese are similar to ducati but not viceversa :)

  • for 5 thousand pounds! thats amazing! even old second hand ones on Aus you'll be looking at 19 grand (around 9 thousand pounds. id kill for value like that on such and amazing bike! even if it is the ugely duckling haha

  • i would love any of these two bikes...

  • Tell me about it.The first Ducati I've ever ridden and owned was a 999 with full termis and I absolutely loved it. I eventually had to sell it as I fell victim to lay-offs but gawd damn I want to have one again.

If you're ever in a position to get one, don't think about it and just do it. You won't regret it.

  • Ma che paragoni fate!!!

La 1098 sta avanti almeno 10 anni!!!

  • 999/749 series being the least attractive of Ducati's is like saying: "This girl is the least attractive Victoria Secret model".

  • true very true

  • @warmmail I dunno, Duc's may be immaculate but they are also quite plain to look at.

  • Im a Ducatista at hart but the 9 (meaning termination on 9) series are the ugliest bikes they made, like some one said that never happened.

  • The 999's are beautifully different and the ergonomics are second to none

  • How more i look at the 1098 the more i start to like the looks:p it really looks like a bike straight from the race-circuit.

  • I love the look of the 999...but love the power of the 1098. Which is better...1198 or 999R?...any takers?

  • the R any day of the week

  • the 999 was a fuk up its looked shit glad ducati got thier shit bak on track with 1098 sensational lookin bike

  • i thought they made the 1098 first and then made a race legal version of it aka the 999 but i could be wrong

  • you are. the 999 came before the 1098. after the 1098 ducati just came out with the 1198... then on top of that they released the desmoseideeci which is a motogp replica aka suicide on two wheels.

  • oh lol

  • lol yep =)

  • what?????? the 999 was amazing!

  • i also don't like the 999.

the 1098 saved the company and i think the design was very important for this change

  • great

  • forgot to mention-he looks like my mates ex girlfriend (she was a dirty bitch tho apparently)

  • that northern bloke is an utter tool who is crap in front of the camera...

  • sei popo brutto! tajate le basette!

  • hahaha, 25 degrees and he's saying thats hot.....what a little bitch

  • italian rulezz

  • Adam Child has such a great fucking job.

  • why compare an 'S' model 1098 with a standard 999?

a test between an 'S' model 999 and a standard 1098 would have been more interesting especially as the price differential would have been about 4k if both bikes were used.....

  • agreed a 1098S should be compared w/ the 999S

  • The more I see these MCN reports the more it seems that they just do this as an excuse to be able to ride bikes on the track under the pretense of "reporting".

They never really say anything worthwhile or meaningfull...

Nice con job though...guess I would do it if I could ;-)

  • @bartonaw fuck yeah. MCN is stupid. who the fuck come up with this? and old model versuse a new much improved one? im sure they will test an RSV MILLE versus an Aprilia RS125 next

  • Ducati Rocks!

  • Einfach Sex pur auf Rädern:-)Da kommen die Japaner eben nicht mit,und da verzichte ich lieber auf 10 PS als das ich n Moped habe was Lustlos daherdesigned wurde..Jupp.

  • Forget either of these, MV F4 all the way

  • RACING KIT

The 1098 R comes with a race kit (intended strictly for track use only) which boosts power output from 180 to approximately 186hp.

  • ducati is v twin block...not same with flat block in R1 or orders...v twin block is low power than "in line four block"...that^s it ducati must over the "cc" to get same power with 1000cc in line four block... you all understand honey>>>!!!

  • Give me a duck suspension/brakes with jap power an I will finally be happy. Oh wait,

    Mv Agusta

  • Waste of 20k.Bike has 160 where as the japanese bikes have over 170.

  • But which one wins in quality, speed, pure fun?? Ducati, italian inovation, thats why the japanese have more power, they have to have something, and this will still win in a drag race, O and i forgot the 1098 R has 200+ horse, where are the honda/;suzuki/kawasaki riders then? Last place thats where.

  • 1098 no match.Look even one of the italian guys said its weak.Japanese bikes owns.

  • ducati is v twin block...not same with flat block in R1 or orders...v twin block is low power than "in line four block"...that^s it ducati must over the "cc" to get same power with 1000cc in line four block... you all understand honey>>>!!!

  • Test ride a 1098 before you think about maxium power. It delivers its power harder than the jap bikes do in places they dont. I rode one with open pipes and its an awsome machine. Try one round a twisty road and see if you can use all its power. Control and handling make the bike faster than its power sugests. My slow 900ss can show up bigger machines in the twisty roads without hardly any outright power. Its just so easy to get the power down and its roadholding and acuracy inspires confidence.

  • you are dumd

  • no its just you.stop getting all emo over this whack ass bike.

  • HAHAHA PINO LA LAVATRICE!!!! :)

  • i like more 999 but i love both of them DUCATI THE BEST

  • yep.

  • +1

    Ditto

  • gimme 916 any day

  • I dream of one day being able to ride a Ducati around a track.

  • I wouldn't mind both the 999 and the 1098! They're both magnificent bikes.

  • DUCATI !!!

  • 1098, IS the best bike!

  • I have a 1098S with the Full Termi system and I have to say...It's the best bike I've ever riden.

  • I love both bikes. Just need to figure out which one i want to buy when i get back from work next year.

  • Ive test rode a 1098s with open termi's. Awsome machine but never a 999. I hear that they steer different and with the 1098 i found no trouble or hard work. Maybe i should go test ride a 999 for the experience. Maybe he means the 1098 is hard work as your constantly accelerating and braking like mad and arriveing at the corners with more speed.

  • I also tested the 1098 and im not a huge ducati fan but the 1098 is the best superbike at the moment.

  • not to mention being the best sounding bikes around!

  • "hopefully i'll survive this heat"

    it's 25c degrees you pussy!

you'd better not come to Phillip Island in summer mate

  • lol yeah it would be lucky to have a 25 degree day in summer in oz

  • only on you tube will the haircut of a motorbike tester be a cause for ridicule, grow up you twats londondick2007 your mother must be so proud when she shitted such a fine turd like you out into this world

  • Pretty much. The British are known to us Americans as having a slightly wackier style in some ways...but at least he's a cool guy. Let the women decide his style :) (nice bikes btw)

  • Gorgeous bikes... but sort ya mullet out mate!!!!

  • Overlooked & underrated, still the 749/999 was a great sports bike. Owned my 749 three years now (& ridden it at Jerez trackdays). Sublime handling that never fails to impress. Whatever you think of the looks it's how it rides that really matters. Reliable too. We'll miss them now they're gone. Future classic status.

  • i'd take either

  • Yeah, that will make him a better rider and biker reviewer mate.

Cut him some slack. I wanted to see a review like this.

    Thanks for posting the video

  • lol

  • mmmmm you're soo greasy

  • plz get a hair cut.

  • Good review...

  • 1098 looks better, is faster and needs less maintance but you can now get a 999 for quite a bit cheaper.

  • great video, hard decision between the 1098 and the 999

  • This MCN chick is a total bull dyke.

  • hahahaha

  • Great video!
