  • I thoroughly enjoyed absolutely every lyric in this song. Just bless you Petula Clark for saying it all to the ones that truly believe in love. A very special thank you my true love who dedicated it to me. You are a treasure for a lifetime! .... And there is absolutely nothing in this world that can ever change my love for you....ILU♥

  • She is as cool as cool can be!

  • For all those filled with hate and anger, this song is for you.

    Sklyer

  • @SkylerTN Half the world is filled with hate and anger, thank god for music like this from a much happier era

  • To all you Carolina Hurricanes fans out there (like myself): This was the #1 song in the USA when new coach Kirk Muller came into the world (February 8, 1966).

  • my sisters and loved her songs!

  • The quality of this song is absolutely pristine! Its sounds so smooth and beautiful!

  • this is music

  • booty booty booty rocking everywhere...

  • i remember her singing this on the ed sullivan show....she also was the opening act for the beatles on their 1st U.S. tour

  • HAL BLAINE STRIKES AGAIN!!!

  • Serge1232!!! Thank you for bringing ecstacy and joy to listeners all over the world! HATS OFF TO SERGE 1232!!!!

  • I admit it, I want that image of her on a black t-shirt. It would be worn everywhere.

  • I remember as a young teen in the mid sixties how this woman stole my heart....Boy was I smitten! She captured and embodied the optimism and hope we all felt. Those wre halcyon days

  • @jwood1005 In both French and English, her songs are wonderful.

  • I am 50 years old and here to say that this was from when music had good messages and not thuggery, cop killing, hurting women etc.

    Doctor Possum

  • @erictyrsson You got that right! This was music! My 13 year old daughter like myself gets in the oldies.I don't get into the music like they have now.

  • @erictyrsson

    it was a wonderful time

  • @erictyrsson I'm 51, and I agree.

  • @erictyrsson yes I agree-sorry for the present artistic content of music-because there is neither actually,

  • @erictyrsson - I'm 61 years old and here to say that there was plenty of "bad messages" in music in the 60s too. There's plenty of music today with different messages. Distorting the past is never a good message.

  • The photo is from her pop music career in Britain in the early 1960s, before she had crossed the pond and launched her American pop career with "Downtown" in April 1965.

  • MrJeff1947, just let us know when that will be, and we will oblige - too bad you haven't listened to her other positive songs, to want to stay among us longer .

    Di

  • I want that song playing when I decide to kill my self

  • Wonderful! Thank you!

  • Petula,

it was your turn. You .

    were great. Congratulation!

  • ペトラ・クラークの"マイ・ラヴ"~"チップス先生さようなら"、"フィニアンの虹"よかったですですネ!~誰からも愛される歌手でした!

  • Petula v Cheryl Cole haha no contest, the kids of today aint got a clue

  • @mallenderrichard13 Youre right there

  • Love this! I used to sing to my mom's album of her in the 70's

  • The first time I heard this song I turned it off. My then-GF turned it back on. I turned it off again; she turned it back on again. I gave up and listened, and by the end of the song I was humming along. It's just an incredibly catchy tune. :D

  • When Petula Clark first came on the music scene in the US in the 60's I had the biggest crush on her. I thought she was beautiful and loved all her music. After all these years I still get a nostalgic feeling for her music and those times.

  • i bet that everyone can sing all pets song word for word

  • i just love petula

  • magical reminds me of my childhood back in 70"s!!

  • Petula Clark reminds me so much of my mother - appearance, attitude, family devotion, total class - thats only the start

  • Love to listen to Petula Clark. The carp today makes me ill. This is music at its Zenith.

  • @CrimsonChampions

Not surprising, really...carp is not at all a good eating fish!

My apologies, I couldn't resist that. You may take offence if you wish, or see the funny side of an unintentional slip of the typing finger...but at least I share your appreciation of Petula Clark!

  • Sweet straightforward lyrics+very catchy tune+brilliant vocal performance = #1 hit. Petula Clark initially dislikes the song (perhaps thinks it is simplistic?) but probably realizes that it is too likeable to be clouded by any cynicism. Probably also realizes that its straightforward joyous style holds a subtly powerful message for its audience. Performs it with great conviction over and over again for 40+ years and consoles millions of people. Not a bad life!

  • @joncheskin Ms Clark didn't like the song at first? Now it only goes to show how wrong we all can be...

  • I first heard this song in 1966 when I was madly in love with the love of my life.

The lyrics are clear and inspiring as the real love.

Please come to San Francisco again!

We miss you and your concerts!

  • I forgot how beautifull Pet was!

  • What a song! What a cutie!

  • Reminds me of me and my mate in the 3rd year common room at break time, loved this song. x

  • I had forgot all about her how lovely to hear her voice again music I would hear as a child and things seem so much easy then, so now I could more music to listen to that I can understang now that is a age thing thank you for putting this up.

  • such a wonderful and simple pop song - who could not like this ??

  • It is a song that makes you feel happy, I have just been dancing around my sitting room feeling 18 again!!

  • I'm 18 years old and I only listen to oldies, I can't stand music these days!

  • I am discovering Petula Clark's music. - talent compared to todays jokers

  • My love is wider than the sky also, but I ain't singing about it.

  • @showtuneful

I suppose we should be thankful

  • I loved this song from when I was very little. Petula was one of the best 60's artists she has a beautiful voice.

  • lovely...

  • HOLY SHIT! IT'S FUCKIN' AWESOME!

  • I'm 2 days old, and Petula Clark's already my favourite artist. Others of my age are into maternal milk, how lame !

  • 13 people have been burned by love.

  • One of Petula's best. Apparently she didn't care for the song at first, but you wouldn't know that from her singing. What a voice.

  • My first favorite song as a kid and still my favorite!

  • I was only in third grade when this song first came out. I love some of her songs. I prefer the music of the 60's; the decade of my childhood, than all of this junk that's out today.

  • Very good a timeless song, this is Clarks bets song ever.

  • i can feel the happy comming on

  • I grew up with this and other songs of Petula clark when I was newly in Canada and I was a very young teenager. Oh beautiful years how I wish for them to come back to me again and with Petula Clark's wonderful songs!!!!!

  • It seems like 500 years ago when this tune first brightened my spirit.Every now and again I hear it and it takes me back to THE GOOD TIMES!

  • love this song and petula

  • I love Pet Clarks music and this one brings back many memories

  • Thank God for You Tube so the young people of today can see and hear all the terrific talent that we had in the sixties compared to much of the crap the is being pumped out these days..Keep on searching...John

  • It is just thrilling to find this and so many others,, my favorites back when...

  • Couldnt say it any better!

  • What a wonderful song - it reminds me of when I was young and in love for the first time.

  • Many of her songs in the mid and late sixties were played on jet flights around the world prior to take-off. Just a passing memory of those days.

  • l so love petula clark. thanks for posting

  • She consistanly put out really catchy stuff. How many of her hits did Petula write? These are all great sounding!

  • Do you think any of the crap recorded today will be remembered in 50 years haha

  • @andwen66 remembered? who listens to it? ignore the junk of today and just listen to classics like this

  • It's called "My Love".

  • XD... we all love Pet and I'm 67, I was 20 when I began listening to her. Her songs just lift you off your feet and put heart and soul into your life. May I suggest working a little on your language... that's not really the best way to express your admiration... I know it's how it is these days and my language made my parents cringe... I hope you will see that there are better and more impressive ways to express yourself! And, NO, you are not the only 1!

  • I remember all these songs when i was a kid, i always considered myself so lucky to have enjoyed and lived in an era of music that we will never see again!!!!!

  • My sympathy at your tragic loss. Too bad your father couldn''t hear this joyful song! He must have been very depressed and without hope. God will judge him most leniently! He's O.K.

  • This song was popular the year my Dad took his life. Was always scared when it came on the radio back in 1966. Really hearing it for the 1st time tonight. The word's to it are beautiful!!!!!

  • Tony Hatch wrote some great songs for her, this is but just one of them.

  • i think im the only 14 yr old that LOVES this song more then the pop songs now adays....

  • @CupOtea4theWeek look at the highest rated comment...and im right their with you too!!! don't worry real music will never die!

  • Two thumbs up, for real!

  • She looks very young in that pic, no more than 21 I'd say

  • AWESOME, very inspiring.

  • this is one of the songs that make me want to fall in love with someone

  • I remember my school was doing this thing where we had to pick a song from back in those days to perform and I picked this one.

  • Petula do you think we coulds do this as a duet if not in person is there a video I could put us in

  • Aaaah,mes années sixties !...

  • This song spins into the air as soon as it starts.

  • THIS SONG CAN TURN A BLUE DAY.. INTO A BURST OF SUNSHINE AND A WARM AND FUZZY FEELING ! THANKS FOR POSTING AND THANKS PETULA. YOU ARE THE BEST ! KC

  • @KCKILLERCAT I agree with both of you, Petula has been a favorite of mind since my mother played her in the 60's...

  • one of the best girl english singers ever

  • We love you, Petula Clark!!

  • I have read that she didn't like this song and didn't want to record it. She didn't think it would be a hit. She was wrong.

  • I love this. Susan Cleaver, if you're out there, I can never hear this song without remembering you singing it as a small girl , such happy memories:-)

Thanks for posting it serge1232 .

  • There are a total of 11 people that don't know the deffinition of "Good Music"... Anyone got a dictionary so it can be explained properly to them?

  • @DNAngelKrad Yes,

In the definition of Good Music, Petula Clark's picture is there.

    :D

  • 11 dislikes!!!!! what that all about, how can anyone dislike this

  • kocham Petule

  • 11 women are frigid!

  • THIS WAS NUMBER ONE THE DAY I WAS BORN FEB/12/1966

  • Billboard's 192nd #1 hit of the rock era. Did Pet chart with it in the UK? God bless!

  • @9SLTT4 1: I was in the 8th grade...it seems but as yesterday...

  • Takes me back to 1966 and my 4th grade hearts desire.......thanks for that trip down memory lane!

  • still it hard to believe that this is a ong that Petula didn't think would do well and this song is a song she considers her least favorite

  • love ya, Pet!

  • omg FINALLY found the song ! took me forever D:

    anyways..

this song is such a great song <3 you Petula Clark ! ^-^

@whales098 yeah me 2. I had to be able 2 tell the WOOOOOORRRLLDDD how much I love this music!

  • makes you feel great unlike todays "songs" which only make you want to top yourself

  • Jättebra låt!

  • in that picture, she looks a little like katherine heigl, is that the right name for the Grey's anatomy actress? i love petula, a real lifelong artist! brava!

  • @ThePerpetuelle Yeah, you are right she does look like Katherine Heigl. I agree that she is a great artist too. Go Petula! One of my favorite songs! :)

  • @ONENataliaONLY This is my FAV song by her.

  • Great pic! Is that from an early album?

  • 15 November many auguries happy birthday to the great petula Clark

  • @sandra46450 very good

  • Supposedly she hated this record. I don't feel the verve of "Downtown," but Pet doesn't phone it in, either. What matters most is the stunning backup of "The Wrecking Crew," the band of the evil genius Phil Spector.

  • Beautiful, stunning, amazing voice! This lady was sensational, can not EVEN compare her to the so-called Divas of the last 30 years of so . Petula Clark and Gladys Knight are by far the most the classiest, sensational & talented ladies I ever seen, saw them both several times !!

  • you excuse, I do not find more to me the beautifulst song " to fly " " volare " sung from Petula Clark, c' it is someone that can replace kindly it in youtube? it appeals to me very many sung from Petula, more still that from Domenico Modugno. thanks many to who want to please to me.

  • ahhh nice

  • I'm 13, and i FUCKING LOVE PETULA!

    XD

    She's my favorite singer,

I start singing these songs and my friends are like "WTH?" I tell them to youtube it. XD

    Im probably the only 1.

  • @whales098 : It's cool Whaley, live your life, not theirs,

  • @whales098 i'm 9 and i love her more

  • @yunova you really want to throw down? Think about it, I've been alive for 4 years longer than you. Ive seen her in concert, i have watched every movie she was in. i have sung every song shes sung. Do you really want to throw down? I thought not.

  • @whales098 girl... ur profile says ur 18 not 13 you are a (Joy Troll)

  • @yunova Ya becuz u cant have a youtube account when your 13, so i lied about my age.

  • @whales098 Check out Mary Hopkins who is from the same era, or Lesley Gore. You will love how "progressive" Lesley was for that era. Especially on the songYou Don't Own Me.

  • @whales098 nice taste! i'm 13 and love this stuff two! your not the only one...

  • @whales098 Nope, ur not alone...

    CUZ SOO AM IIII!!!!!!

    XP

  • @whales098 try looking at Finnians Rainbow.

  • @britshop I hav seen it......28 times......

    XD

  • @whales098 you aren't alone lol do you like She & Him? You should def check them out if you haven't heard of them!

  • @whales098 Cool! You have an ear for good music. Now, don't expose your ignorance and lack of class as well by using the "F" word. You're 13 years old. If you want to use it among your friends in private, go ahead but that's one of those seemingly small things that will add up to you being a "no-class low life" when you're an adult. Lift yourself above the crowd and start speaking and carrying yourself correctly in public.

  • @whales098 I love the music from the '60s and '70s!! Everything on my ipod is oldies! I've been into sixties since I was 12 years old. Now im 16. Greatest music out there!

  • @whales098 Shes great!!!!!!

  • at your age, it only shows that you have a genuine taste for good music, real music...and you have an ear for real talent! congrats and continue to enjoy Petula's legacy....

  • @whales098 Now Thats great. I Love her too! And I'm 55! i do remember this song! I Also love Miley,Too.

  • @whales098 at 13 dear I am so glad you admire and love Petula Clark~but YOU HAVE A TRASH MOUTH!

  • @whales098 potty mouth

  • @whales098 I saw her 3 years ago in San Francisco, WOW!!!! Can she still sing it! It's sooo cool youlike her who cares what your "freinds" say?

  • @whales098

Petula is a great singer, 79-years, but still performing:))

  • @whales098 xD me tooooooo lol i was 14 when i first heard this ,im 20 now so you not alone.

  • Lindisimaaaaaaaaa, gracias que bajaron esta cancion ,me han traido mis recuerdos bellos si,cuando yo era adlescencia si bellos tiempos.

  • One hell of a voice.

  • This song was on the very first record album I purchased. I was ten yrs old. Titled : My Love. I still have it! And it still plays like new!

  • Late 1965. Holy cow 45 years ago. Why does it seem like forever ago and yet just like yesterday? Man I'm getting old.

  • Janeshe 2 says: amazing song!! so beautiful

  • J'adore Pétula , ma jeunesse !

  • This is such a happy, lovely song. Brings back childhood memories.

  • Of course I love it, but I don't get why this song topped the charts in early '66. It feels recherche, more like #1 in '64... but as Pet sings, it "shows how wrong we all can be."

    Still...it sounds l'64, not '66.

  • BEST SONG EVER !! Well, for my time and especially when you are already enjoying the day !!! It just added a touch of happy day to the end of my mine ! !

  • I remember eating Quisp breakfast cereal listening to this song playing from my mom's kitchen radio before going off to school. Makes me smile...simple times.

  • @heber6204 Quisp & Quake. Those were the days!!

  • @jdakjr Thought I was the only one to remember Quisp.

  • So much part of my youth...love you Miss Clark!

  • omg nothing distracts me from what i need to be doing more than petula clark songs. I LOVE YOU PETULA!!

  • Pet....sounds of the 60's.....sweet!

  • This was the #1 song in the USA when Daryl "Moose" Johnston came into the world. He played for the Dallas Cowboys and is now a sportscaster for FOX.

  • @mkl62 I remember that guy. He was as tough as nails! I've never been a Dallas (Cowboys) fan, but I do remember him. Still, he wasn't as as tough as Walt Garrison. But then, who the hell was--or is? That dude rocked. Period.

  • @Rigmeister9 Moose's birthday is February 10, 1966. It is interesting to see where we were as a country and world then compared to today. That is why I like doing this. I was 3 and a half years old at the time. The US was in Vietnam and the civil rights movement was in full swing. At my church, we were welcoming a new pastor because he was pretty much forced out of his former church due to his stance on the Civil Rights Movement.

  • When I was very young there are just a View songs and this is one of them I remember well.I had to find this song and play it again. There are alot of songs Petula Clark did that I remember well.

  • I love this song! Brings back childhood memories for me. Made me so happy to get lost in the magic! :)

  • I love this song and I'm a kid!!!

  • memories evoked by this song are deeper than the deepest ocean. I had heard this song in 1960 when i was a student in Arbroath, Scotland. today in August 2010, I am living 1960 once again by listening to this song again.... all the memories...all the people...all the fun comes back rushing with a small tear for tribute. Thanks Petula Clark...thanks every one. I am in India now since 1961.
